OMG the Deputy PM looked a fright walking along Downing Street this afternoon.

Showwaddywaddy called and want their suit back!! 🤣

She looks like she either has no bra on or a badly fitting one. Her boobs are almost down to the waistband of her trousers.

The Daily Mail is often criticised (rightly) for focusing on what women are wearing.

Funnily enough there is an article today filled with praise for Angela's outfits.

Who'd have thought it.

Isn’t it The DM who ditched support for the Conservatives and went full tilt to Labour during the run up to the election?

Tasteful on someone a couple of sizes smaller perhaps, and for a social event.

Definitely not.

^Perhaps she thinks she’s the late Queen, who always dressed so as to stand out (rather more tastefully though).^

I thought AR’s dress was bold but tasteful. The late Queen would probably have approved.

Tho the late Queen would have insisted on a matching hat 😄

here is Angela this morning! a lovely photo.

Very nice, Angela! 🙂

Hope she's warm enough, it's 12C, feels like 10C here 😯

Angela Rayner looks lovely and her smile is infectious.

*Quite so. I've seen politicians referred to as scum and some quite unedifying comments made about their supposed character traits. From both sides of the political spectrum. And certainly observations made about their appearance.*

Yes, Dickens, but two wrongs don't make a right. You won't have seen me call anyone 'scum', and the fact that others may have done so doesn't mean that I (or others who don't indulge in insulting language like that) should have to accept seeing women called 'tarts'. I don't see this as being about political allegiance (although I have no doubt that the nastiness is underpinned by that). As I've said I would defend any woman from sexist slurs, wherever they sit on the political spectrum.

I'm not defending the slurs made by others Doodledog in order to make two-wrongs into a right (and I know you and others do not indulge in them), but rather pointing them out to those who appear to believe that GN has a clean slate which GSM has sullied.

I have to put you right there Dickens on this v important point, 😂the late Queen only carried a black handbag whatever she was wearing.Which contained as we now know an emergency marmalade sandwich.

Aveline Sat 06-Jul-24 14:15:08

Looks much nicer today.

I doubt anyone who's been here more than ten minutes will believe that there's been a clean slate grin.

We should call out any offensive comments as we see them (and I have done so in GSM's defence before now, FWIW). The fact that someone else has done something so it's fair game is no defence, IMO.

I'm speaking only for myself so as not to assume I can speak for others, not making this about me, but I have found GN quite horrible over the past couple of weeks. General moaning and sniping is par for the course, but sexist slurs are on another level and people do have a right to say so.

I must admit to getting quite choked up seeing Yvette Cooper today looking supremely elegant and happy, now doing the job that she was always meant to do.

The Sun switched at the very last minute, obviously realising they’d look pretty silly backing Sunak.

SillyOma Sat 06-Jul-24 14:37:33

Bumface, I love seeing what other people wear, it doesn't matter at all but gives me ideas (despite the fact I am short and nothing really fits). Watching Sunaks wife all I could think off was, if I had all her money I would never have worn anything like that dress. She has a lovely figure but in my opinion that outfit did absolutely nothing for her.

Spuddy Sat 06-Jul-24 14:39:16

It's certainly not the nicest, looks too big and to be honest, is hideous but it's her body and she was clean so she can wear what she likes.

What I don't like to see is low cut tops, skirts up to the bum and piles of makeup!

Apparently the Queen used to give secret signals to her ladies in waiting and other staff with her handbag.
She would move the handbag from one arm to another, put it on the floor or table when she wanted to move on or leave.

Yes, her face was a picture when her result was declared. Rachel Reeves and Bridget Phillipson, too. grin It was lovely to see.

Much as with the tennis, however, for every winner someone has to lose, and I did sometimes feel sorry for the outgoing MPs. It must be really difficult to lose your job, income and position in public like that and be filmed doing it. Some handled it a lot better than others, though. Jacob Rees Mogg, much as I dislike the man, was gracious in defeat, but Liz Truss was anything but.

Callistemon213 Sat 06-Jul-24 14:42:02

Our MP,has said it will be difficult to close his office and, I presume, make his staff redundant.

Doodledog Sat 06-Jul-24 14:43:07

Yes, I can see that, particularly for those who have been in post for many years.

Callistemon213 Sat 06-Jul-24 14:44:47

Our ex-MP, I should have said.

I agree. I have never seen so much bitchiness on a thread in GN. I am totally shocked!

Oh get over yourself!
Rude, people are only expressing a opinion,no need fir the put down because you don't like it.

No need for you to call me rude either.

Being “totally shocked” by posters commenting on the choice of clothing worn by a high ranking politician is, frankly, ridiculous. This is social media. I could add I find your comment to me “deeply unpleasant” but I’m not that lily livered.

Esmay Sat 06-Jul-24 14:56:42

Not a great look , but I'm far more concerned as to how she does her job - well I hope .
Just read her biography - what a rough start .

This is the first time I have seen what this thread is all about!! In my opinion that is NOT acid green. I think it is a lovely green and it definitely DOES suit her. I also think that maybe it is linen and linen is a disaster to wear after a few hours...especially if you have been sitting down.
I guess if she looks at the photos of herself on the day she wore it she will know that by now shock
I am also guessing that she is so pleased by the election outcome she really couldn't give two hoots about a crumpled trouser suit! grin

I would call it emerald green. It’s viscose mix not linen. Someone suggested much earlier that she probably thought the baggy trousers would disguise her body a bit, but they draw attention to her middle if anything.

Before I went out this morning I saw AR entering No 10 wearing an orange dress which looked far more flattering and, I thought, suited her much better.
