Almost 3am And 19 degrees - No Bloody Chance Of Sleep

Maybe I should move to Australia because I need a cardigan each evening when watching TV and my 15 tog duvet is close by when I go to bed. Having had cats all of my life until now I am used to sleeping with the bedroom window closed as I did not want the cat committing suicide.

You would love it in Queensland Charleygirl5 . Year round warmth and sunshine. Though you have to put up with the odd cyclone ! Wish I was up there now, it is cold down here in the southern states.

Charleygirl Yes just a couple of days of sunshine. Not a lot in the scheme of things. Otherwise as you say we are double wrapped with blankets double jumpers, socks with heating on most of the rest of the year.
The British summer so far has been 2 hot days in June and two in July. Let’s hope that’s not it as after tomorrow it’s back to normal.
We have been away on 3 breaks in the uk so far this ‘summer’ and not a single day where we didn’t need a jacket/ umbrella etc etc . Off again to Suffolk next month, hope we get lucky this time. Can’t wait to book somewhere where the sun does shine.

Love it.. Living here in the Sunny South, we plan for hot nights. Fans in every room.
We have one, or even two on all night, I have a 1 tog quilt, tho I can sleep without covers.

Just been in the garden, on one area it's 48 degrees.

Thanks Elegran, it’s also comforting with full cotton sheets and no plastic mattress cover. And takes 0 minutes to get ready.

Theres a great fan from The Range called Icycool or icecool- very good and 69.99 but quite long & bulky at the base. Remote controlled several settings.Good though.🥶

I would love to sit outside or even inside with windows open, however my downstairs neighbour (not a youngster herself) has her own version of the sounds and sights of summer.

These include her “talking” …in her case shouting (because she is quite deaf) and in a raucous Northern Irish dialect, getting drunk on her patio (which I have to negotiate to get in and out of my flat) 2 constantly yapping little dogs, endless rows peppered with effing this and effing that, other argy- bargy with one or other of her alcoholic sons who has smashed both the front door glass and a back window of her flat ( tastefully boarded up now) …truly it is all hours, police attending on numerous occasions and this is supposed to be a quiet court yard type area in what is a very leafy suburb.

Aaaah! The British summer, you can’t beat it.
Sorry rant over. Have made an official complaint just now and am being sent an APP to record examples of the racket as proof and I will be contacted by someone from the antisocial behaviour team soon. 🙏🏻

When we went to New york (july 2017) was 32 degrees(celcius) when we came outside from hotels/shops/restaurants away from air conditioning the heat hit you full on- was 36 degrees when we were on the bus tours & climbing.was nicer than our rotten cold rainy summers though- (im a summer baby) 🌞

Looks like the thunderstorm may not be all that far off!

My personal recommendation is my Dyson fan - expensive when I bought it 5 years ago but worth its weight in gold as it cools the air silently - no more disturbed nights.

Granmarderby-we have similar with music and in middle of 2 houses doing same and their fights with neighbours accross- kids on bikes up & down all the time, etc etc- and street only been built since last year!- odd cause we all had to sign to agree to be good tenants, no loud noise, no loud music, no nuisance causing etc.Police are out every week nearly, they're getting a petition survey thing to make housing assoc turf them out i think.For once i pray for rain.

I have never been a sun worshipper but my arthritic bones appreciate a bit of warmth.

Now I'm free to come and go as I please, I dont find the English weather too difficult.
You obviously have to be prepared for anything though!

Perfect summer day in my neck of the woods. Our bedroom is downstairs, single storey, and north facing with windows on three sides, so rarely a problem in summer. Jusnoneed, it’s the gulls that keep me awake too - they never sleep, bang on the windows and screech down the chimney. I’ve seen them actively leaning into chimneys to screech 😱

I haven’t read all this thread but my solution is a fan on all night. My bed-fellows like it too.

This made me laugh Rosies. I really can't believe that people are moaning about 2 hottish days in July (which is the actual summer). Especially when it's been like winter for months on end. It's all going to change again tomorrow anyway.

I hate the cold and the winter but I wouldn't be making a fuss about 2 days of snow or chilly temperatures in February.

Have a tepid shower -don't dry yourself and lie on a doubled up sheet on top of your usual one .
I also spray myself with cologne .
Keep a bottle of water by the side of the bed and sip it .
If I wake up I have a spray and a sip !

Lovely and warm here on the west coast of Canada. 7pm and 29 degrees right now. For the first time ever, I had a touch of heatstroke (must be my age!). We had a hot night and I woke up with a headache and was a bit unsteady on my feet. I drank a litre of cold water and had a cracker with marmite for the salt and was back to normal within an hour. I put ice cubes in my dog's water bowl and manage to find shady dog walks for her.

Hi, this made me laugh, the gulls screeching down chimneys on purpose😂is there no end to gulls bad behaviour.
It’s pigeons wot do it here, they constantly coo and babble down our chimney.

After just two days of summer sunshine, welcomed by most as the novelty it is, we wake today to grey clouds a cool breeze and a forecast of rain. ☔️
I for one am missing the sunshine already.

I sometimes make a "moan about the heat" thread, so people who don't like it can moan in peace.

It hardly seems worth it this year.

It was 90 deg here yesterday in the south..... 19 degrees is hardly hot... only around 67 deg..that's winter temps...

It was hotter than that here.
Rather like being put in a preheated oven, gas mark 5, I reckon.
