As an aside a lot of travellers are avoiding main land Europe because of the high temperatures.

A Turkish neighbour who used to live in Antalya, told dh yesterday that his wife, who’d gone back for a holiday, is coming back early because it’s too hot. High 30s I think.

And I still recall a couple of 40s Italians we gave a lift to a couple of years ago, in Cornwall. They said they’d come more than once in summer to get away from the heat back home. (In fact it was a hot summer that year in the UK, by our standards anyway.)

They even told us that one summer they’d thoroughly enjoyed walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall.
‘What?’ said I. ‘Complete with damp and chilly drizzle?’
‘Yes, but that was why we liked it!’ 😂

My SiL lives near Glasgow. Every time I have visited her it has rained I can't remember it not. I have been up twice in last few months. Both times very wet, I only see the area via windscreen washers.

The last time she was down visiting us in the South of England she had to buy a pair of Sunglasses, she told me she can't recall having a pair for decades, never needed to wear them.

My Late MiL and my DH family lived south of Edinburgh by the sea, now that had much better weather. Weather truly comes in from the West.

We recently were on vacation in central BC. It started out cool (it seems everyone had a cool spring!), but then turned very hot, over 30 degrees. We found it hard to live in, but everyone there has air conditioning, and our friends have a pool, which is a luxury.

We were happy to come home to our 20 degree overcast weather on the north coast. It is typical here for summer. To me a perfect day is around 23 with sun shining.

I do understand now why in the past rich people had summer homes in the mountains; it would bring relief from the months of heat.

In Scotland now, we managed a damp 3 hour hike today.
Somehow the beautiful wild raspberries we picked and ate en route compensated for the weather.

It depends where you are. They tend to be more of a problem on the west coast.

I’m reminded of a Glaswegian housemate I shared with before I was married. She told me that back home she never wore any actual summer clothes, just fewer winter ones.
I do hope that’s not the case for everybody!

Another Glaswegian friend (we were expats) told me that despite having a lovely garden back home, they never sat out in it - never warm enough.
Surely that can’t invariably be true? Lately when it’s been chilly and pouring down south, I’ve seen much better weather on the forecast for Scotland.

Well it fits only too well with my recollections of my Scottish childhood.

Why do you think you meet so many Scots who don't live in Scotland? The weather, that's why!

It's a beautiful day here too, just outside Edinburgh. I don't know any Scots who have moved away purely because of the weather. If it wasn't for the rain, we wouldn't have such a beautiful, lush country to appreciate.
As Billy Connolly says: "I hate all those weathermen, too, who tell you that rain is bad weather. There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing, so get yourself a sexy raincoat and live a little."

When the sun shines in Scotland it is one of the best places to be. Glorious countryside, fabulous often empty beaches and interesting cities.
I've found Scottish people to be warm and friendly, mostly, with a great sense of humour.

Hot and sunny here in Edinburgh. It's very lush too due to so much rain having fallen. Can't count on it staying like this so need to make the most of it.

Paddyann54 if the temperature suits you that’s good, very fair skin can burn horribly. I have an auburn haired friend with almost white skin colour who gets a red nose if only outside for an hour or less in the sun.Funnily enough she had a completely white cat which they had to be careful of in case it got ear cancer, so she made a little sunhat for it which went over the ears.They would both sit in the shade in the garden wearing their sunhats.😁

Nice Marydoll I would love a garden.

It was warm enough today in my part of Scotland for me to be able to take off my cardigan.

I imagine loads of people will try to move to Scotland as climate change gets worse

Oreo I never sit in the sun,ever.I sometimes do a wee bit of gardening if it’s not too hot….for me but since childhood and huge blisters from the sun despite potions from the doctor I avoi it at al costs.I did once spend time outside in COrnwall with factor 50 applied every half hour…you,ve guessed it..I burnt…even through long sleeves .I like when the sun goes down.The upside is I get loads of compliments about my skin,often from strangers

For stunning beaches google Hope Blamire who photographs and paints the beaches in the WesternIsles and is often asked where in the Caribbean it is .Turquoise seas and white sands ..if you like that sort of thing.

I was speaking recently to a friend who lives in Provence She said they’ve hardly had a ‘proper’ summer yet and nights are unusually chilly. They had the log burner going last week. The weather seems all uppsy downsy in Europe this year 🤔. Scotland seems to have had the best in the UK so far!
