I thought Scottish GNers might like this!

Yesterday I was talking to the visiting elderly French mother of a close friend of a dd - we were at a fairly riotous outdoor b-day party of Gds.

We were v lucky with the weather, not too hot, just right. The mother has lived in Provence for over 40 years and told me the summers are now so hot, she hardly goes out of doors all summer long. She added that the best place for a summer holiday is Ecosse! (Scotland - her son in law is a Scot so she was speaking from experience!)

The east coast of Fife in Scotland have had a good few hot days this July I even had a hot sunny day for my birthday bbq.

Edinburgh was a trip to remember where I sat outside Tiger Lilly’s resteraunt and spotted this famous person goung into the hotel

I wouldn't go so far as that Marmight. Yesterday was quite sunny and I remember the children's sports day being sunny in June. However, the organisers had to get funding for pumps to drain away the bog the sports field had become after days of pouring rain.
Interesting to hear about Provence

A friend has just spent ten days in Provence, staying with a French friend. They visit most years but have never had such awful weather as this year, which was cool and damp and very little sun. They light the fire some evenings

Back here at the ranch, I’ve got my cardie back on, but it’s a summer weight one, not my winter one. I’m thankful for small mercies, although looking at the thick black clouds piling up in the sky, we’re going to be deluged soon. 👀

Bucketing down here on the South Coast

It's a beautiful sunny evening here, just outside Edinburgh.

Aveline Thu 25-Jul-24 21:26:37

Really? I'm in Edinburgh and the heavens have opened. Rain is streaming down the windows!

Grannmarie Thu 25-Jul-24 21:28:34

It's raining in Lanarkshire too. We've not had much of a summer this year.

Well, that was two hours ago I posted that - it's raining here too now.

You must have our Glasgow rain. 🤣 It was dry, then torrential rain, now it's dry again.
The washing was dry by 2pm, so not all bad.

We are off to Edinburgh for the weekend, I hope it is sunny! It's pouring in Glasgow.

Sunny here at the moment, but I'm a bit reluctant to jinx things! wink

🤣
Thanks! We will try not to be troublesome tourists.😉

Aveline Fri 26-Jul-24 10:33:18

I'm due to go to a meeting at a hotel on Princes St tomorrow but just can't face the battle through the crowds all dawdling along sprawled right across the pavements never thinking that not everyone is on holiday. Thank goodness I'm not trying to get to work.

Bonnybanko Fri 26-Jul-24 10:41:38

That’s funny I live in Scotland and have had many hot days this month

Bonnybanko Fri 26-Jul-24 10:44:58

marydoll I went to Tiger Lilly’s in Edinburgh recently it was a lovely warm day

Waverley station is very crowded, nothing new, but I am surprised that the streets are not too busy.
I shall try not to dawdle and upset the locals. 😉

I think Glasgow is busier, however I have no problem with tourists. They help keep people in jobs.

Aveline Fri 26-Jul-24 13:23:57

Tourists don't contribute to the infrastructure in Glasgow either which I gather is not in a great state.

SueDonim Fri 26-Jul-24 15:59:34

The aforementioned deluge came to naught, bar a couple of pathetic showers. If it’s going to rain for goodness sake rain enough to water the garden! grin

Aveline Fri 26-Jul-24 16:10:24

Can't win!

Oh dear!
Have you never been a tourist, Aveline? Works both ways.

I have had a lovely day and the weather has been lovely.

Aveline Sat 27-Jul-24 14:46:49

I've never been a tourist in Glasgow!

Marydoll Sat 27-Jul-24 15:31:43

Aveline, you have mentioned being on holiday previously on GN. I actually didn't say you had been a tourist in Glasgow, (I would be surprised if you had been), but you must have been a tourist elsewhere. I hope the locals were more welcoming to tourists than you are.

Aveline Sat 27-Jul-24 17:08:59

I have been on holidays and also travelled a lot for work. I don't expect to be welcomed and perfectly understand that local people don't necessarily want me to be there. I don't feel in the least entitled to be welcomed.

MissInterpreted Sat 27-Jul-24 17:13:45

Ok then...

mokryna Sat 27-Jul-24 17:34:43

That’s why I visit my Mancunian DD but this year seems cooler and wetter, as we saw lasr night.
