Still chuckling at the use of 'goosegogs', a word I've not heard or used in 60+ years. When a kid, the neighbours grew gooseberry bushes within arms reach of our back garden and we'd also go scrumping in the apple orchards over the road in the autumn.

Mardy is always the term used in this house to describe someone sulky/petulant/grumpy.

....which reminds me of a term I haven't heard for decades. Whatever happened to "crosspatch" when someone was grumpy. As in, "he's a real crosspatch today."?
