Words hardly used now

I have just read that words like wazzocks and plonkers are rarely used now.

How about swinging and grotty made popular in the 1960s?

Nobody “lives in sin” any more!

They don’t go on ‘dirty weekends’ either. 🙁

Oh I had forgotten all about dirty weekends…
Brighton was a popular destination for those indulging, if memory serves.

"What will the neighbours say?" said by MIL when DD1 was born 3 months after our wedding

Scribbles

^Calling someone Mardy ( when they were in a mood)!^

Mardy is always the term used in this house to describe someone sulky/petulant/grumpy.

....which reminds me of a term I haven't heard for decades. Whatever happened to "crosspatch" when someone was grumpy. As in, "he's a real crosspatch today."?

We had a big book of nursery rhymes featuring crosspatch.

‘Crosspatch, draw the latch,
Sit by the fire and spin,
Take a cup and drink it up,
And call your neighbours in.’

I once heard a young Scottish boy, no more than about 16, refer to somebody’s ’wee biddy wife’. Loved it!

Haven't got two ha'pennies to rub together.

Yes, and the companion to that must be "they haven't two brass farthings to rub together".
Imagine explaining to a Generation Z what a farthing was!🤪

I know both the old and the new meaning of glory hole.
We had a glory hole in our house, too. smile

So did we!

Always annoyed at the loss of WHOM …just WHO seems to be used now in all cases where ‘whom’ was formerly used, and I hate the now general use of FIT instead of FITTED. ( as in “It fit him” instead of “it fitted him” ) .
There was also a recent comment that Trump “ had the morals of an alley cat” ( true ) by Biden, which was slated cos it was such an out moded term! Not that I wasn’t true!
