My other half hates winter, as do many others, which is perfectly understandable, in fact he gets quite depressed which is why one of our daughters bought him a sun lamp thingummy. So, of course he loves summer.
But I am the polar opposite, I really dislike high summer, every year I dread it arriving, and am so relieved once in autumn. I really do get quite fed up with it. When we get good weather it is way too hot and humid and I get hot at the drop of a hat so it does make me feel dreadful, and heavy thundery weather triggers migraines. Also there are sweaty crowds everywhere, too many people on the roads and jostling each other on the streets.
Give me a crisp sunny November day and day, or a warm but not hot spring day anytime. I really don’t mind rain, cloud, or snow either.
Would think I was mad if it wasn’t for one of my daughters and friend feeling the exact same way.
Does anyone else feel an odd one out like this?

I love summer especially the light nights. I am happier and more energetic in summer. I start to go downhill in autumn. I can’t bear dark nights. I don’t even want to think about it. I wish I could fly to the Southern Hemisphere to avoid it.

Nooooo, please don’t roll on autumn. There aren’t even many flies this year, it’s been such a rubbish summer. I haven’t seen one wasp (hooray!) The grass is still green, as it’s rained constantly. We are going to be outside tonight watching the Perseids on one of the very few warm, clear nights we’ve had in months.

I am another Autumn - Spring person. There is nothing nicer than a wet November day, when I am in my study in the warmth of the central heating and glow of the lights looking out at leafless trees and greyness.

I find high summer dull. The everlasting greenness of trees looking dusty and dry, the desert like quality of fields of ripe unharvested crops. This afternoon we were out in the coutnry and seeing the clouds of dust caused by a combine harvester, even though we have had heavy rain just over a week ago. It causes a psychological thirst and dryness of the throat that water can never quench.

Yes. Summer is nearly over (by end of August) and it's only just started. I love summer and winters are too long. It's not too hot if you stay in the shade or indoors with windows open it's lovely.

I also used to love autumn but it doesn't seem to happen any more! Maybe a couple of autumnal days in September and then it's straight into winter.

No, I don't dislike this time of year. I prefer January through September. Autumn the messy leaves are falling, November and December are dismal, I love skiing snow, then new growth.

January should be cancelled I think!

MissAdventure Mon 12-Aug-24 18:39:11

Today could do with cancelling.
32 degrees, feels like 132, and staying hot until around 4am.

Autumn I agree can be lovely. I find the winter so long, particularly once the clocks change and it's dark mid afternoon, endless dreary gloom. Once this hot spell ends, there'll be the inevitable mutterings "the nights are drawing in"and worse still the bloody Christmas cards will appear in shops anytime soon. Noooooo!

I'm definitely an Autumn person. I can't stand this heat!

Love walking and is impossible atm, 32/33 degrees here today, went out early morning but still too hot in the sun, having to dash between bits of shade. Too hot to sit out in the garden for long so had to go indoors with blinds and curtains closed to keep the living room - which catches the sun most of the afternoon - cool.
Humidity makes it feel far hotter than it is.
Roll on autumn when I can go for long walks again.
