Hi from a very warm S Hampshire. Fin played for his team today, turned up here a sweaty bundle with Imogen and their Mum, my son soon followed (6-1 to Fin’s team). We had a lovely bbq, I over catered as usual, they all disappeared four hours later.
I hope today was less congested SueD and you’re having a great day.
I gather from GMorning GG13 has had a good break too, thoroughly deserved, feet up now?
You too llfl your front door must be whirling on its hinges all the comings and goings!
Urms I imagine you and himself have permanent smiles.

Those having different days are in my thoughts too, Yia, NannyG4, Doodle and Baggs

Hello kitcheners it’s a beautiful summers evening in East Yorkshire at our home away from home.

We have been here for 4 weeks today. Either tomorrow or Tuesday we shall pack up and reluctantly go home. It’s been a wonderful few weeks and it’s made us think we would like to make a permanent move to the countryside. Big decisions to be made.

Anyway it’s been a wonderful day today as we’ve been out for a family celebration with our son and family. The Sunday lunch we had was gorgeous and everyone enjoyed it. Then they all came back here and we all sat outside enjoying the sun. They’re away home now and we are going to watch a bit of TV and I’ll read the papers online.

Your granddaughters comment made me laugh Suedonim 🤣

That’s a super photo birthday photo soop

Thinking of you NannyG4 and all others not having the best of times right now 💐

Hello everyone. It’s been a lovely day here today, tomorrow is forecast to be just as lovely, but hotter! 32 degrees for us apparently, so will walk early.
I had a walk this morning and got home before it got too hot. Met several dog walking friends, although I don’t have a dog. The local recreation ground is the right size for an easy walk. Did a bit more gardening, but it’s all so dry that it doesn’t look much different.
No visits from family today - DD1 & family called in yesterday and DD2 and family are away on holiday. Had my usual long phone call with my oldest friend - we’ve been friends for over 70 years.
Have a good evening everyone.

brook2704 Sun 11-Aug-24 22:40:13

Good evening kitchen pals, we’ve just waved off DD2 and the DGC, they’ve been here since mid afternoon - I’m exhausted!
We ate outside in the sunshine, really enjoyed it. The DGC were quite giddy and boisterous but played happily together without any fall outs, just general teasing. DD2 was driving so we didn’t open the wine but I could really do with a glass now but I’m off to bed instead
It sounds like there’s been lots of family get togethers and happy times this weekend, hope everyone has enjoyed the sunshine
Thinking of our kitchen pals struggling just now, we’re all here for you when needed x

Babs03 Mon 12-Aug-24 08:56:33

Is going to be 30 degrees Celsius here, have closed all blinds and curtains and am not venturing out later today. Went for an early morning walk and will go with my husband for one in the evening but are hunkering down right now with cold drinks and ice creams.
Btw is anyone getting massive house spiders?
I am terrified of them, they truly are huge and move very fast, usually in my direction, my husband is tasked with removing them humanely.

Nannytopsy Mon 12-Aug-24 13:18:51

Loved your photo soop!
Just been out for lunch (salad chèvre chaud for you francophiles!) but with a hot and sticky baby and a tired toddler it wasn’t very relaxing 🤣! They are now napping solidly and we are all reading or snoozing. Yesterday was too hot but today it is now cloudy with a breeze, so much more pleasant.
Thinking of you all, particularly Nanny4G

brook2704 Mon 12-Aug-24 16:19:47

Good afternoon kitchen pals, we had a thunderstorm this morning but now the sun is shining but it’s quite windy. Cant leave the doors open as they keep blowing shut.
I’ve just treated myself to a mini magnum, there’s lots more in the kitchen freezer so please help yourselves
DH has gone round to DD2s to make a start on clearing the garage, I don’t envy him. I’m quite annoyed really with her ex partner as he just walked away and left her with everything to sort out - and apparently he’s already seeing someone else!
Thinking of everyone, especially NannyG4 and Doodle
Lunch sounds good nannytopsy , hope the little ones sleep for a while and you enjoy your rest
Take care all and enjoy the sunshine x

Jaxjacky Mon 12-Aug-24 16:35:04

I’m the spider remover here Babs03, but we’ve not seen any recently.
I’m not keen on the goats cheese Nannytopsy pleased you enjoyed it though.
Sounds a smashing day Grandmadinosaur safe journey back.
29 here, but a breeze rattling the blinds, a steady day on the voluntary phone, quiz later, we’ve had a Tesco lolly each brook and I had crisps, snacks in this weather.
Enjoy your evenings.

Grandmabatty Mon 12-Aug-24 17:14:11

Good afternoon kitcheners. Brook that seems really unhelpful and I can see why your dd has gone her own way. We had a brief thunderstorm this morning then drizzly rain. It cleared up though. The boys went puddle splashing and then later this afternoon they played in the garden. It was so warm and sunny. They've had a good day except when dgs2 dumped a load of sand on dgs1's head! The wee one has been wild today but hasn't had a nappy on all day with no accidents. I'm having a seat then I'll tidy up. Enjoy your evening

Grannmarie Mon 12-Aug-24 19:40:01

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰

I'm just popping in to wish everyone a peaceful Monday, and to remind all quiz fans that the BBC2 quizzes resume tonight, my Monday treat! 📺
TOYA.

Scapa1 Mon 12-Aug-24 20:08:11

Good evening all. It was a lovely afternoon here after a grotty morning. We had a very lazy day after having the DGd’s from Thursday till yesterday evening. Their parents were off to the Olympics as part of the celebrations for a special birthday. Enjoyed having the girls but it was a bit hectic!! My Dh is having the new injection for preventing respiratory disease tomorrow he is one of the first and he isn’t 75 till next year so goodness knows how that works! I am another one who is not keen on spiders. Well early to bed tonight.

Babs03 Mon 12-Aug-24 20:47:12

Will try going to bed later tonight, the hot temps at night here make it impossible to sleep.
Hope everyone else either has cooler temps or manages to sleep through it.
Am doing a thing called 'outspell' online, which is basically online scrabble, very addictive and am onto the hard version, imagining it exercises the old brain and so fends off dementia.

Redcar Mon 12-Aug-24 21:15:20

Good evening everyone. It’s been very hot all day today, so after an early walk and exercises, I’ve done very little today. Yesterday I did some gardening, although that tired me out because it was so warm.
When he was alive my DH was chief spider catcher, but I now have to do it myself! A large spider made me jump this afternoon when I disturbed it, but it’s disappeared again. No doubt it will reappear when I least expect it. Fortunately it’s in the dining room and not upstairs.
Hoping that tomorrow won’t be quite as hot and I’ll feel more energetic.
Have a good evening everyone.

Grandmachrisy47 Mon 12-Aug-24 21:16:17

Grannmarie, I love my Monday quizzes too. So glad they’re back.

Jaxjacky Mon 12-Aug-24 22:13:44

I hope you enjoyed your Monday quizzes kitcheners, we came third in ours, I excelled in the Food and Drink round, modest moi 🙂.
The voluntary phone was steady until late this afternoon, then I got rather over heated trying to sort out lifts, nearly done, it’s cooler now.
I hope that’s successful for your husband Scapal 🤞
I’m going to sit in the garden with a small glass of wine, night all.

soop Tue 13-Aug-24 11:44:05

I apologise for being absent without leave. Our neighbours treated us to a belated birthday treat yesterday, after which, I went into a lazy-lady mode. grin

Scapal I hope that your husband's treatment is beneficial.

brook Your daughter should thank her lucky stars that she is rid of that excuse for a man.

Grandmabatty I loved your account of the boys enjoying themselves as children should. It's been a very long time since I last splashed in a puddle. wink

Mr Soop should be arriving for his appointment at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary very shortly. In fact, he has just this minute sent a text to say that he's arrived. He'll be seeing the boss man this time. He will return home, on the bus, and he'll pick me up from our pal's house in the village at six-ish. Our pal has invited me to stay with her this afternoon. I have offered to clean her silver. Fair dos. wink

Scrabble and quizzes are my way of keeping the remaining grey cells active.

As for spiders...I have a phobia that will become more pronounced as the spider season begins in earnest. There is no other creature that terrifies me more than an eight-legged beastie.

NannyG4 A gentle arm around your shoulder.

Doodle, Yia and Baggs I am sending loving thoughts to you all.

Sweetie Pie the feral cat is lolling in the utility room. He has eaten a feast. The washing machine finished it's cycle some time ago. I am unable to unload it until SP leaves the premises. Why, you may ask. I do not wish to disturb him as he contemplates the meaning of life. Daft as a brush - me. grin

annsixty Tue 13-Aug-24 12:34:29

Good afternoon all.
A quick message whilst I wait for Sainsbury’s to deliver.
I am rather disappointed that I shall not be going to stay with my very good friend in Nottingham tomorrow.
She has had a nasty accident on her right hand and is in plaster from fingertips to elbow.
She has an appointment at the hand clinic at Queen’s Medical and will be out of action for some time.
However these things happen so we will rearrange when she is up to it.
Sainsbury’s here now so I must go.
Have the best day you can everyone.

Babs03 Tue 13-Aug-24 12:41:33

Hello all,
Just about to welcome a new baby to our street, have made a pasta salad and am taking a card, experience tells me that new parents usually have tons of baby stuff but could really do with some sustenance.
Hope you all have a good day and keep cool if like us the heat and humidity is still a bother.

brook2704 Tue 13-Aug-24 14:36:43

That’s a disappointment for you Ann, what a shame about your friend, I hope she’s not in too much pain. Hopefully you can look forward to visiting soon
That’s lovely news Babs welcome to the new baby, I’m sure the pasta salad will be much appreciated by the busy parents
Your comment made me laugh out loud soop you’ve got it spot on there! 🤭
It’s sunny but really breezy here in Inverness, the washing is double pegged on the line - don’t want it ending up in next doors garden

GrannyGravy13 Tue 13-Aug-24 14:53:40

A quick pop into the kitchen for me.

I have The Imp and his 9yr old brother here, (they are currently trying to drown each other in the spa pool)

DD will be joining us after work for a BBQ, nothing exciting food wise, burgers, sausages along marinated chicken wings from our local Turkish Grocers, and the obligatory salads etc.

I hope all goes well with Mr.Soops consultation soop

Charleygirl5 Tue 13-Aug-24 15:03:31

I have decided that the hot weather between 25-32C makes the body and the brain wilt. I could not possibly be my age of 81 next month.

*Good that Sweetie Pie is sheltering from the heat and has been fed also. Please may I book a room?

TillyTrotter Tue 13-Aug-24 17:40:06

Hello, just popping in to send best wishes to everyone in this lovely kitchen.
The heat wilts my brain Charleygirl but in my part of the country it is cooler today and so I am more “with it” and active.
It is still summer and barbecue weather so I hope yours is a grilled treat for your family Grannygravy.
Much more exciting than salads IMO.

Grandmabatty Tue 13-Aug-24 18:37:06

Good evening Kitcheners. Tilly it's lovely to hear from you. We've had mixed weather in central Scotland. Sunshine but also some hefty showers. Grannygravy enjoy the BBQ.
Today was the last day of the summer holidays and the start of school for dgs1 tomorrow. He's said he's quite nervous about going because the playground will be busy. But he's also looking forward to it. I took them to soft play this morning to wear them out! It didn't work as they were both very excited this afternoon. However, happy high spirits, no grumps. I shall go to his house tomorrow morning to see him in his uniform but I won't go to school with them as that would be too much. Tonight I have finished off the fajitas and I'm relaxing before I do a quick hoover. I will have a small glass of wine. Enjoy your evening folk

Jaxjacky Tue 13-Aug-24 18:55:40

We had a similar menu with our family bbq on Sunday Grannygravy bon appétit.
Your poor friend ann and a shame for you.
I hope he has a lovely day tomorrow Grandmabatty and settles in well.
A cooler day here, hurrah, I’ve cleared my raised veg bed, bar a few beetroot and the sweet peas, it’ll be composted when they’re done. Floors washed, the kitchen one was disgraceful after Sunday, oven f&c for dinner and I’m looking forward to a less sweaty sleep tonight.

Doodle Tue 13-Aug-24 20:30:59

Soop thank you for thinking of us.
I’m just popping in to say NannyG4 I will be thinking of your tomorrow and hoping the service goes as well as it can. I hope you find comfort being with others who knew and loved your DH and will have memories to share, you know where I am if you want a chat. xx
