Someone to watch over you?

At the weekend I spent ages looking in all my books, magazines, hidey holes for a particular crochet pattern with no luck.

This afternoon I went out to the summerhouse and looked in a large box of Mum’s patterns and there it was! Straight away.

I swear my late Mum watches over me. As I opened the door, the smell of lavender (which she loved) was overpowering.

If she ever lost or mislaid something she would say a prayer to Saint Anthony. If I lose something now I ask her to help and she never lets me down. 🙂

Do you feel someone watches over you?

My mum taught me to ask Saint Antony if I needed help or to find something. I think my brother who passed last year keeps an eye on me because at strange times I hear his voice telling me things in a joking nagging way (which was his way with me) and I’ve actually listened and burst out laughing in situations where I’ve needed advice and can hear him and done what he’s said. I’ve even managed to fix my iPhone by listening to him when I’ve no idea what to do to fix the problem so yes I do think there’s a greater force at work somewhere.

Oh your Mum is definitely watching over you - never stop believing that! I smelt my Dad's aftershave a few days ago whilst doing the ironing. My Dad has been gone 39 years - he was only 45 when he died and I'm 62 now! They don't make his aftershave anymore, it was an Avon one called Spicy from the 1970's and since my Mum went into a nursing home, I have my Dad's ashes! So yes, I firmly believe he's with me and watching over me!

I am a big St Anthony fan. He is brilliant, even finds parking spaces.

Send him my way, pleeease🤪

There’s no one there!

But how do we know?
Refusing to believe in an afterlife is just as much a faith/ belief system as those who choose to believe in one.
Impossible to find out until we die.

I think the processes that make us smell smells or get success with an incantation are actually deep in our own minds.

After my sister died I would sometimes think I could feel her hand on my shoulder, something typical of her. It was comforting, but I am sure the physiscal feeling and attached emotions came from my deep mind and not that my sister's spirit was present in any way.

Have had a tumultuous and difficult few years, marked by loss, ill health, and things just generally going pear shaped. Have not so much been mulling over whether someone is watching over me, more whether someone has been sticking pins in a voodoo doll. Could do with a break so if anyone can spare someone to watch over me please send them over pronto.

I don't really believe in things like this but I have to admit at to at least three occasions where it has felt that a hand has reached out to prevent an action or turn events in a totally unexpected way. I can only describe them all as distinctively odd but beneficial.

That’s lovely Primrose.
I wish I could feel my mum was close to me because I miss her, but I don’t. It’s lovely that you do.

Yes, I think so, not sure who.
In the past 12 months my oh dementia has gone into decline, making life very difficult. I could feel myself drowning in the responsibility of it all.

Then out of the blue, I had an email, to say my brother was looking for me. I’d been adopted as a baby, so never met him.
We’ve met loads of times now and have a great relationship.

But I really think someone or something thought I needed someone in my life at the point. 😍
