Someone to watch over you?

At the weekend I spent ages looking in all my books, magazines, hidey holes for a particular crochet pattern with no luck.

This afternoon I went out to the summerhouse and looked in a large box of Mum’s patterns and there it was! Straight away.

I swear my late Mum watches over me. As I opened the door, the smell of lavender (which she loved) was overpowering.

If she ever lost or mislaid something she would say a prayer to Saint Anthony. If I lose something now I ask her to help and she never lets me down. 🙂

Do you feel someone watches over you?

No, not in the slightest. And if there was, I would hope it certainly wouldn't be my mother. But if others feel there is someone watching over them, and it brings them comfort, then good for them.

No, I dont believe someone watches out for me in that way. I do have a belief in a supreme being (or divine plan) of some kind but do not attach a personality to him/her/it/they.

Well when I first went to school we were fed the myth that every child has a guardian angel, clearly they don't or nothing bad would ever happen. It would be nice to feel that some presence looking out for us but I doubt it. I wouldn't want to discount anyone else's deep held feelings though.

oh yes definitely. Sometimes there are scary incidents and I am unscathed or when I cannot find anything, I ask and suddenly I know where it is. I am sure I have angels looking out for me

Yes, my parents were horrible people so it won’t be them!
My Grandma was lovely to me, she died when I was about 8, I think she has my back.

This exactly.

Yes, a decent and benign force for equality and justice.

I wish there was someone watching out for me but I really don't think so.
I understand how others get comfort from that thought though and if it helps them, that's fine.

No, I don't think anyone watches over me.

No, I Have only myself at my back, and so it has always been.

However I think there is a very deep relationship between one's deep mind and little mantras, superstitious little actions etcc that mean that uttering them means that the mind recovers deep information.

Having been brought up a catholic, when I lose anything I always appeal to St Anthony, often very successfully because at some deep mind level, thinking or saying the words trips a memory of where something is.

It is interesting that the OP said about the smell of lavender. When I drove home after my mother's funeral, there was an overwhelming smell of flowers - so much so that I turned round to look in the back seat to see if I had brought any of the funeral flowers home with me, which of course I hadn't. Also when I put on the radio the first song which was playing was Brahms Lullaby which I had chosen to be played at the crematorium. I don't particularly think my mother watches over me, but I like to think angels are there for us.

Sometimes I do, and strangely enough a smell made me convinced several years ago.
I started smelling nicotine in my house as if someone has been smoking.
I thought it was a sign either my late mother or late sister both heavy smokers were trying to contact me.
Shortly afterwards I was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully treatment was very successful.

True story.

My mum was only 4'10 and had very small little fingers. When she died year ago I had her wedding ring, a little gold one.

My hands and fingers are quite big because of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis and could only wear it on the little finger of my left hand.

One day I realized it was missing! I panicked and searched everywhere in my flat, basically turning the place upside down, texted my work's boss to see if it had been found and handed in, I checked the bathroom and shower unit, lifting up the shower floor mat, everything. I checked outside, still nothing. I was very angry with myself for losing it and sent an apology to mum.

Several weeks later one morning before work I was in the shower and felt something lumpy under the mat. I took it up and there was the ring .... even though it was definitely NOT there when I checked beforehand!

As I stood there clutching it in amazement I actually heard mum's voice say ''you found it then?!''

As soon as I was out of the shower I plonked it straight in my jewellery box, safe and sound!

A few years ago I asked mum to get a copy of my birth certificate for me, it's a standing family joke that the registrar insisted to mum that she had had a boy called James and not a girl, I suppose the writing caused the confusion. Mum passed 3 years ago and we recently stayed in a hotel for my daughter's graduation, we went down to breakfast and gave our room number and the receptionist said 'oh yes, James' I knew then mum was with us xx

Like others, too many strange things have happened especially around my father. Someone was definitely looking after him, because somehow things always turned out okay for him. I have found the same, you don't always understand why something happens but later on it becomes clear.
