Bully Cats

I’ve just read an article about Bully Cats. I’ll put my hand up and say I’m not overly fond of cats, but these cats, I found frightening. The article suggested the breeding of these cats was approaching a fad atm. Breeding which shouldn’t be happening due to serious health problems and shortened life expectancies. It’s been happening with certain breeds of dogs as well, but these cats….words fail.

Mmm most if not all dogs these days are a result of breeding. People make a living from it, I don't see any of this coming to an end. Just look at the number of cat breeds to dog breeds. It's an industry from which the animal takes no profit.

People have been breeding dogs for years and no one batted an eye-lid... why are cats different?

Quite a few eye-lids have been batted about dog breeding over the years. Kennel Club rules have been revised and several new laws passed.

All animals deserve protection from unscrupulous breeders, cats included.

keeping quiet - there have been many discussions on gransnet and other sites focussed on the problems associated with over breeding, breeding for profit from any dog- no health or temperament checks, putting any dog with some poor poodle bitch/dog to produce cute puppies. No matter that you don’t always get the best of either breed, no bother that your stud or bitch live in kennels with little human contact and their puppies are poor specimens.
Look at the daily press coverage around dangerous dogs, xl bullies

You cannot possibly know that Chestnut.

Judging by the comments I think everyone agrees it's cruel to breed and keep these poor creatures, so the owners are not going to be animal lovers.

Then I see it's Mail Online...

They look bloody awful, why would you want one?

watermeadow Fri 16-Aug-24 09:17:53

There are already breeds of cat with in-built health problems, like Scottish fold and Persians. While people want to buy them others will produce them.
Thank goodness most cats have not been deliberately bred with exaggerated features, like so many dog breeds.

Good grief. Don't do this to cats! Cats are beautiful!

Absolutely, surely this must be classed as animal abuse. I've always had cats, beautiful creatures, this is awful!

I love Maine Coon cats - if I ever reach the no dog stage I believe a Maine Coon might save me

I’m unhappy about intensive breeding practices needed to develop this kind of cat. Your comment chestnut expresses your feelings but isn’t based in any kind of research, I accept it’s probabkt too early for research but i can’t accept that only ‘vile specimens who won’t look after them ‘ Will be the only people buying them. What legislation could possibly result in banning the breeding of these animals. The dangerous dogs act is essential to safeguard humans -look at the difficulties there are in enforcing this legislation

I have rehomed a female Maine coon cat. She spent the first 4 months being extremely timid and retreated into her igloo house at the slightest noise. I started to let her out into the back shared terrace area and she has suddenly become the terrace bully. None of the other 3 cats in the terrace dare come out when she is around. Inside my house butter wouldn’t melt.

Those poor animals will need extra care and attention, and protection from the sun too. But the kind of vile specimens who buy them will not look after them properly. I hope they are banned immediately before this gets out of hand.

Agree totally

Never seen one.

This world will always have certain people that enjoy ways to exploit defenceless animals. There must be ways of stopping these breeders and complete shame on those who will buy the poor cats. A disgrace.

Smileless2012 Thu 15-Aug-24 15:11:43

The Sphynx no more so than any other breed MissA but I worry that isn't the case for the Bully Cats.

HeavenLeigh Thu 15-Aug-24 14:56:01

Love spynnx spelt wrong but I’m afraid these poor pussycats look gross. And the health probs they will endure poor things. The world’s gone mad designer this designer that. These breeders aren’t thinking about their health probs and the welfare of these cats. All they interested in is the big money they will get from selling them. And there’s enough silly people want to buy them. Makes me really cross

MissAdventure Thu 15-Aug-24 14:15:06

They have more health problems overall, I think.

ALANaV Thu 15-Aug-24 14:06:31

I love the Sphinx cat …. Ha ha …. I often go to our local cat cafe where there is a family of them ….. they make a bee line for me as soon as I go in …. I THINK it’s because they think’ah mum is home ‘ as I have MORE wrinkles than them … they are so friendly and feel like velvet… I do worry about them in the cold though !!!hmm

MissAdventure Thu 15-Aug-24 13:47:51

grin

Juniewoonie Thu 15-Aug-24 13:04:05

Oh Lord I wouldn’t have one of those if you paid me, imagine waking up and seeing that sitting on the bed!!!

Moggycuddler Thu 15-Aug-24 11:51:07

Horrible cruelty. Very upsetting. Poor little cats.
