Good Morning Everyone,
Its dry and cloudy with a red sky this morning over brackley .
Today my usual bus trip to Bicester a chance to relax away from where I live .
My TV still playing up with no BBBC channels so todays plan is switch it off at the main , when doing a first time insulation, remove the aerial lead as well to see if it removes the memory .
Anyway I also intend to watch the women's version of the Tour De France on TV.
Take Care,
Mick

Ekwa that explains it then! Had a coffee today at a cafe on our walk. It was £3.50, but the custard cream was free smile

BlueSapphire Thu 15-Aug-24 11:13:46

Thank you for the Vaseline tip, Marydoll, I will give it a go.

EkwaNimitee Thu 15-Aug-24 10:37:07

NannyJan it was the biscuits that did it, I just realised that they were a £1 each! Utterly ridiculous. So no more lovely ginger biscuits, more pounds in my purse and hopefully fewer on my waist.

Good morning Mick and all from a wet northwest coast.
I had a very restless night and feel as if I have had very little sleep.
Very pleased that my fifteen year old car passed its MOT and now I will put back into it some of the necessaries I removed when I cleaned it out. I always keep a book in the car for the odd read.
It was a beautiful day yesterday and I sat reading and making’phone calls in the garden. I thought my gardener would come as it would have been ideal weather wise. I never know when he’s coming and it’s often when not convenient.

It seems to have been all sheet washing and changing recently with visitors, but a quiet day today.
Lovely photos here and so frustrating for you and your tv Mick.
Thoughts as always to all with worries.🌺

Stilllearning Thu 15-Aug-24 09:54:54

Morning all from rainy South Lanarkshire. Still dog sitting so quiet days.

Another jumping grandson Mizuna! Lovely.

As is your boy Taichinain!

First day is such a leap, isn’t it Grandmabatty? Nice for DGS2, his turn to have you to himself.
Cake magnificent.

So glad to see your news Llfl, I was thinking about you.

Liberty, those opportunities for apprenticeships sound amazing , good luck to them all.

Litterpicker I meant to send congratulations on your DGS doing well in the exams, very well done x

Wishing everyone a good day.

Marydoll Thu 15-Aug-24 09:43:12

Bluesapphire, the Fenofexidine is only dampening the symptoms at the moment. I am quite still e congested.

Dunworking Thu 15-Aug-24 09:21:34

Good morning from a very wet Glasgow!
We had a lovely day celebrating my DH aunts 90th yesterday in glorious sunshine out her back.
Today I’m sitting in the hairdresser and awaiting the arrival of my youngest son and his girlfriend who are home from Dubai for a week. Looking forward to seeing them…just hoping for some decent days weather wise as his girlfriend has never been to Scotland and want to show it at its best!
Enjoy ur day!

Grammaretto Thu 15-Aug-24 09:12:46

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's pouring with rain.
Yoga starts up this morning .

I'm tired today. I was dressmaking yesterday and the concentration and unpicking knocks me out.

I also went to join an outdoor Gaelic singing group in the evening.

So glad that LLFL and Baubles had good news.

The cake is amazing Grandmabatty. So glad Dgs first day at school went well too.

I haven't heard from mine yet or the A level results which will be arriving.
I hope DGD gets on the course of her choice.

Have a lovely day everyone.

Jaxjacky Thu 15-Aug-24 09:02:08

NannyJan I have the same problem with ‘waxy ears’ a local pharmacist does mine and gives me a 10% discount as I’m a frequent attendee!

GrannySomerset Thu 15-Aug-24 08:59:08

More grey skies and rain forecast but yesterday afternoon and evening were lovely so am grateful for that. Busy day (by my current standards) yesterday with enjoyable craft group doing Lino cuts - modern materials much easier than real Lino - and a talk by one of our oldies’ group on his 80th birthday trip to Borneo which meant some wonderful pictures of wildlife. Looked amazing. Today is an empty but will make a start on designing a lay service due soon.

harrigran Thu 15-Aug-24 08:55:23

Good morning from a dry, at present, NE but forecast is for rain.
Sister and BIL visited yesterday and we had a glass of fizz while we chatted.
I have just had a brief message from DS saying GD1 has her university place, she will be studying art at Sheffield.
Elder sister visiting this afternoon after she has been to a relatives funeral.
Kind thoughts to everyone.

NannyJan53 Thu 15-Aug-24 08:50:54

Good morning from a dull and cloudy Black Country.

Sorted out Mums NHS hearing aids yesterday. The reason they weren't working as she had put the batteries in the wrong way!
Also, has an appointment to remove wax from the ears. This seems to happen 3 or 4 times a year, and now you have to pay £80 a time is getting expensive. The Practice Nurse used to do it, but it one of the small procedures that the Tories privatised quietly.

Then I went over to DD's to see them all after their holiday in Corfu. DD's eldest is 16 next week, and will be receiving her GCSE results 2 days after. So a nail biting time!

Today is a walking group walk, with my little local group who meet every other Thursday. I think a cafe stop is halfway round. I have ironing waiting for me for this afternoon.

Just booked tickets for a gig and overnight hotel for MrJ's birthday present for next year. We try to have experiences for birthdays, as we have enough 'stuff'

Ekwa I certainly wouldn't pay nearly £6 for coffee...around here it is usually around £3.40 which is bad enough.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Tuaim Thu 15-Aug-24 08:44:38

Good morning from the South Coast. Much cooler here now which is a blessing. Off today with my pedometer to get a few more miles in before the month is over and while the cool breeze blows.

EkwaNimitee Thu 15-Aug-24 08:38:39

Good morning Mick and everyone from dark and very rainy Carlisle.
Such a contrast to yesterday when it was hot and sunny. I was in town for a haircut and folks were strolling about and sitting outside with their coffees. And speaking of coffee, I too had one and, really, they should be handing out a wee brandy with it...the price has gone up yet again! Nearly £6 for a flat white and 2 biscuits! I can pay the money but do I want to?

Today I'll do the ironing and then we'll see. Other jobs on my list require dry weather or good natural light so it will probably be admin and reading if the rain doesn't clear up.

Good to see good news Llfl and Baubles.

Have a good day everyone.

grandMattie Thu 15-Aug-24 08:24:55

BlueSaph, I may b3 teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, but have you tried putting Vaseline on your eyelids and inside your nose? It supposed to “capture” the pollen…

Taichinan Thu 15-Aug-24 08:16:22

Oops, that 'send' wasn't meant to happen!
Baubles glad all is well with your DH's knee and recovery is going to plan.
What a beautiful cake your DD has made for your mum's 90th Grandmabatty - I'm glad she was able to appreciate it.
Another amazing photo of your jumping grandson Mizuna!
Thank you Grandmattie - it's my favourite photo of the weekend.
Family resemblances are amazing sometimes, aren't they. At one point at the weekend - the angle of his head as he leaned forward and the way the light caught him - I clearly saw my grandfather (his great-great-grandfather) in my grandson. As little Ollie is the spitting image of his daddy I assume when I look at him I am seeing what my grandfather was like as a baby! Granddad died when I was 11 so I'm the only one left who can see that. Living history - from the 1880s.
Today I'm off down to tai chi again - very little hearing until I get the second hearing aid back in a week or so - we'll no doubt have a few laughs at my interpretations of what is being said!
Have a good day everyone and enjoy all the summer weather down south x

Jaxjacky Thu 15-Aug-24 08:15:37

Morning from sunny S Hants, we had a couple of hours yesterday of drizzle that turned to rain, very welcome.
I sorted out insurance for both cars with decent reductions, worth the tedium of comparison sites, then two long phone calls with friends.
Good news baubles and a beautiful cake Grandmabatty
The washing basket needs attention. Octopus have free electricity for an hour today, so it’ll go on then along with a cottage pie in the oven.

Good morning from a sunny W Kent. Off to the local farm shop this morning and then a cup of tea with DD2 later.
Good news llfl and baubles
Marydoll I am crossing fingers and toes
Good luck to all the GC awaiting A level results our turn next year

BlueSapphire Thu 15-Aug-24 08:06:00

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton, a nice change after yesterday's gloom.

Walked out to the post box in the morning, was only out 15 minutes but that was enough to give me hay fever for the rest of the day; my eyes were so sore. I take a regular daily allergy tablet, but it has no effect and even the ex-prescription ones that Marydoll recommended last year yield no positive results. May have to resort to the doctor....
Stayed in the rest of the day and got the ironing done, and spent the afternoon reading.

Will have to venture out today as the front grass needs cutting. Then need to wash the kitchen floor, and a Sainsbury's delivery is expected late morning.
Sweet chilli chicken for dinner tonight with Bombay potatoes and Peshwari naan..

Lovely birthday cake 🎂 Grandmabatty!

Have a good day everyone.

Bellasnana Thu 15-Aug-24 08:05:23

A late good morning from Malta where the high temperatures are expected to last for some time yet. I can’t remember when we last had any proper rain.

DD3 and SiL enjoyed their evening at the village festa, so much so that they didn’t roll home until after 3.30am! I was so tired by then although the boys were good as gold.

They woke at 2am briefly as they were both thirsty, but went down again. Don’t know how they slept with all the bangs from petards and fireworks. The Maltese love their festas.

Today is a Public Holiday, the Feast of the Assumption, known here as ‘Santa Maria’. Almost everywhere closes for this week and today will be like a Sunday.

My trip to the dentist was better than expected! I had a full X-ray and there is nothing untoward going on. The root canal I had done needed a bit of shaving but that was all. Only €70 so a relief in more ways than one!

Lovely photos today, that cake is a masterpiece Grandmabatty. Well done to your DD, I’m glad your mum enjoyed it too. Also glad your little chap had a happy first day back to school, bless him.

Llfl that’s such a relief to know you got the all clear. Also good news about Mr Baubles’s knee💐

Sorry this is such a ramble. Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Taichinan Thu 15-Aug-24 07:58:08

Good morning all. A grey day on the Angus coast with rain to follow c - a lull after the overnight rain. Yesterday was a glorious September day of glorious sunshine cooked by a brisk wind off the sea. Perfect for drying all the weekend's bedding.
Llfl so glad to hear your news - definitely worth that celebration! And baubles, pleased

monk08 Thu 15-Aug-24 07:52:28

Good morning all from the Black country it looks like the sun is trying to break through although cloud is predicted for all day.
Shopping and later over to friends.
Great news Llfl and Baubles DH.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.

Liberty Thu 15-Aug-24 07:50:37

Good morning from a sunny Suffolk with no sign of rain. The grass is now brown in patches but it will recover when it eventually rains.

Awaiting phone call about DGD1’s A level results. She is off to collect them from school shortly. Hoping she and all the other youngsters are happy when they get them.

Apprenticeships seem to be becoming more and more popular and therefore oversubscribed. I spoke to a friend recently whose nephew had applied to Sizewell for an apprenticeship. They were oversubscribed 4 times and had selected a number for a 6 week assessment. They are paying these young people £400 pw and looking after them very well. What’s not to like for the lucky ones eventually selected.

Hope today is a good one for all.

Gingster Thu 15-Aug-24 07:37:05

Good morning all and, yes, it’s another very warm day ahead. I long for some rain. Sorry, those who have had lots of it 😢.
We are due for some tonight.🤞.

Yesterday was a nice day with Dd and little gd 6. Like yours, Mizuna, she’s 8 and growing into an independent young lady. Tiny for her age but very capable and quick to learn. I call her my ‘fairy with a lions heart’.
We prepared salad for lunch with her chopping, dicing and presenting beautifully on a plate. Baked chocolate brownies, and did some craft work.
Then off to the park with little pooch who ran after her ball wildly while gd cartwheeled around the huge field. Into the playground for a gym routine and back home for an Icecream and brownie. A busy day and lovely. And it didn’t cost a penny! 👍. DD was in ‘good’ form 🙏.

Today dog has the groomers and I’ll go to Bowls and pop into town for birthday bags and wrapping paper. We have so many birthdays during the summer months.

Dh will take the car in when I get bag to have new tyres and break shoes. ££££££££!

We await to hear of ds2’s A level results. She has her driving test tomorrow and her 18th gathering at the weekend! Phew!

I hope you all have a lovely day ‘come rain or shine’. ☔️☀️

Marydoll Thu 15-Aug-24 07:33:43

Good morning all from a very wet Glasgow, where it is 14°C and extremely wet and dark.
The two Primary schools were due to come to Mass today, but Dollie will be delighted to discover that she won't be going due to the extreme weather forecast. She is a heathen! 🤣

How heartening to hear good news from Baubles and Llfl.

We have BabyD today, our plans have changed due to the weather. We now have none! I have made her blueberry and banana breakfast muffins. That should keep her for all of five minutes.

To my surprise, my medications look as if they have been synced. I looked at the pharmacist's face, when I handed over the screeds of scripts and asked if she would rather I picked them up tomorrow. She laughed and said she would need time to go through them all! .
The main road in Paisley was still closed and the large junction, where I had my accident, chaotic and stressful. I decided to go home, over the back roads on the way back, only to encounter more road works and temp traffic lights.

I was quite late from church last night, which was surprisingly busy. It was odd, driving in the twilight for the first time in my new car.
The young sacristan and I used the opportunity to get lots of jobs done, we never get peace to do things at the weekend. The tidieness and order brought joy to my soul. Every shelf ( and there are many), drawer and cupboard are all labelled.
There will be severe consequences if anyone messes them up. 🤣

Unfortunately, I received a message from the sacristan, with whom I worked on Monday, saying he has Covid. I am rather anxious, because I was unable to get my booster this time, because of a severe chest infection. If I catch Covid, I must go into hospital for an infusion of antibiotics, tablet form is unsuitable. 🤞

Wishing you all a good day. I must rush, the baby will be here soon.
