No success at the House of Lords so here's a suggestion.
The only thing they don't say is whether to buy a multipack or what flavour,

Kitchen foil taped to cardboard is very effective as card is a good insulator and the foil reflects heat.

I’ve just read that Rachel Reeves has claimed £4,400 in tax payer funded expenses to heat her second home. I’m saying no more!

Shantygirly Fri 13-Sept-24 12:58:26

And, bubble wrap on the windows? How can I see what the neighbours are getting up to!!??

Love the comments made, so funny so many of them. It's true that if you don't laugh, you'll cry, that's for sure!

Kitchen foil behind radiators might be better - it might be more economical than buying crisps in bulk?

Well, once the greedy energy companies find out about this money-saving tip they'll soon put a stop to it by hiking the price of energy.
The regulator won't do anything - worse than useless - and the government are too busy giving pensioners a good kicking, so they won't care either!

have you seen the price of crisps? my brother paid £1.89 at a service stations wh smiths for mcoys normal size packet. i was shocked to find i had only used £548 in electric for a year from july to july, i only use 2 halogen heaters, one in living room and one in bedroom, i had bought a soup maker and already had a slow cooker and that kept me in warm meals, i am 61 and disabled that causes me mobility problems, in scotland they stopped the cold weather payment and now we only get a £50 payment if we qualify.

For all you crafty folk….What are you waiting for? 😂

I think it's time to get Blue Peter back to show children how to make socks and hand-warmers out of crisp packets - the perfect Christmas present for Grandma, assuming she hasn't frozen to death in the meantime.

Yes Lizzie44 and Valerie Singleton and John Noakes used to work wonders with a couple of wire coat hangers.
I don't know what we can do with them regarding heating but I'll have a think.

I'm off now to borrow a dog and sit outside Tesco with me begging bowl and when I come back I'm going to put a GoFundMe page on Facebook.

We've just had a notification that our energy prices will be going up from October 1st.....

Allira Fri 13-Sept-24 14:16:55

have you seen the price of crisps?

Yes! I looked in the supermarket today and wondered what to do with all the crisps as I'd only be buying them for the packet.
😯

BigBopper Fri 13-Sept-24 14:18:15

I measured the space at the back of my radiators and got some cardboard boxes, cut them to the size of the space then covered them with tin foil. All of the radiators in my home have a tin foiled covered piece of cardboard down the back of them as I had noticed the house wall was getting warm so now the tin foil sends the heat back into the rooms.

I have also received an email from my electric energy company telling me the cost of electric will be rising from 1st October and to be aware that my direct debit will increase significantly. I await the new price increase with fear.

You could go round picking up litter and then you will have done some good, warmed up and have crisp bags 🪖

😂😂😂
Another cracker!!

This thread is cheering me up no end.

Do they need washing in hot water to remove the grease? If this is the case many of us won't be able to afford to heat the water!! It's absolutely unbelievable!! 😄&😭

Charleygirl5 Fri 13-Sept-24 14:30:38

You can also save a fair bit of heating by going to bed early- maybe 5 pm on a bitterly cold day and getting up much later maybe 12 midday? You may not need heating on as you will be hoovering, floor washing and cooking as well as having the odd bath but if your water is metered maybe cut those down to a maximum of two a week.

Mojack26 Fri 13-Sept-24 14:33:13

I was told tin foil about 20 years ago and it reflects the heat but crisp packets!🤣

gulligranny Fri 13-Sept-24 14:35:57

Just happened upon this topic and ladies, you have made me cry with laughter so thank you very much!

The thought of long woollen knickers - or indeed some made of used crisp packets - has caused DH to have some sort of conniption. But during his career in lighting at the BBC he did work with Valerie Singleton & John Noakes, so I'm hoping that once he's recovered and back to what we laughingly call sanity he might remember some useful tips. I'll be sure to pass them on if he does.

MissAdventure Fri 13-Sept-24 14:50:58

I hope so, I'm having to eat all these crisps!

What is we can't afford to have the oven on !!!!

peg them inside out in a wire coat hanger (now 15p from all major clothing stores) and them into the shower with you. If 4 minutes is enough to clean your body, it should work on a few crisp packets as well. Be careful not to slip on them though.

Wash the salt off first!
No need to heat the water.

MissAdventure Fri 13-Sept-24 15:19:53

The salts the best part! wink

MissAdventure Fri 13-Sept-24 15:23:23

Maybe save the salt, though, in case the carpets get frosty.
