I've been investigating and Screwfix seem quite reasonably priced for foil to fit behind the radiators.

How is it fixed? I must admit we've never done this, our walls are dry lined.

Doublesided sticky tape. make sure it is 2-3 inches wide.

Never mind crisp packets, I am going to smear myself in goose fat and fashion a liberty bodice type garment from an old fleece top, then get someone to sew me into it for the winter. Will be unpicked next Spring.

What else can you throw at us Starmer?

My father in law used to tell us a tale of someone who sewed themselves up for the winter.

It was quite common for kids to be sewn in for the winter. I was messing around.

Thanks for this info, Allira. I didn't know that. However, my heaps were older than that when I went to use the compost and the "biodegradable" teabags still hadn't composted. The tea leaves had and everything else in the heaps including a lot of wood. Hey ho, I say.

I've seen this on YouTube. The crisp packets are washed and hung up to dry, then opened up and laid on a sheet, edges touching, like patchwork. Another sheet laid on top and a hot iron applied thus fusing the packets together to make a hypothermia blanket. I think I might make one and send it to Rachel Reeves. FFS.

Ok how about a competition to see who can be the most inventive with a crisp packet/s . I shall be going shopping tmrw and will be purchasing sone crisps ( walkers of course as I do love them) I shall post a pic of my invention as to what I have done with my crisp packets/s . It won’t take long! I love! Crisps ( pics to follow in next day or so ) 🙂

It was my 70th birthday 2 weeks ago and my children and grandchildren decorated the weekend holiday house before I arrived. At the end of the weekend they laughed at me cramming the large helium balloons into my car boot to bring home as I didn’t want to leave them behind after all the trouble they’d taken. Little did they know they’d have an invaluable purpose 🎈

I’m safely back out of it! That could have gone badly wrong. I’m now going to iron it flat and use some double sided tape to join it to the crisp packet and fix it behind the radiator.

MissA your foot does look rather swollen. I hope it’s not hurting. With regard to the crisp packets maybe a 6 pack and mould them into a pair of knee high boots might work. You could pump them up with a bicycle pump till they resemble Billy Connolly’s footwear in the 70s

I made a suggestion earlier in the thread M0nica, a cunning plan!
A crisp packet bank where everyone can donate their used crisp packets 😃

It will be so useful for those of us who don't like crisps, can't afford them or are worried about the salt content affecting our blood pressure.
Our blood pressure is at risk of going up anyway with helpful suggestions like Mr McShane's.

What an excellent idea! I am sorry I missed it first time round.

Another energy saving tip would be to collect old newspapers , tie them in bundles and stack them against your outside walls (inside) as extra insulation.

Do you think we could get a list of really useful energy
saving ideas and pass them on to Mr McShane to publicies in the newspaper.

You could go round picking up litter and then you will have done some good, warmed up and have crisp bags 🪖

I think it's time to get Blue Peter back to show children how to make socks and hand-warmers out of crisp packets - the perfect Christmas present for Grandma, assuming she hasn't frozen to death in the meantime.
