A post this morning by Infoman, has prompted me to start this thread.
The first LP I purchased was, Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits, my first single, The most Beautiful Girl in the World, by Charlie Rich.
Working over the summer as a student in the Knorr factory, enabled me to buy my first record player.
I'm getting all nostalgic! 😉

First single was 'Roadrunner' By Junior Walker and the All Stars. First LP, can't remember as I was asking for them for birthdays , Christmas etc but can remember buying some before this one but 'Ziggy Stardust' was my mind blowing LP !!

I bought 3 at the same time when I was given my own rcord player. They were:

I'll be with you in apple blossom time - Rosemary June
The Little Drummer boy
Slow Boat to China - Emile Ford and the Checkmates

The next was Are You Lonesome Tonight - Elvis

The first LP I bought was the Beatles "Please Please Me"

Showing my age I think.

Ziggy Stardust was also mine, I reckon.

I bought my first single when I was 15, I had just been paid my first weeks wage and my parents told me to treat myself. I queued at the record store for Buddy Holly's 45 rpm record "Think it over " with all the other teenagers on a Saturday morning. I still play it to this day with all my other 50's and 60's music, 66 years ago.

I was so proud, I had bought something with my first wage.

First single, the Woolworths cover version of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, sung by Paul Rich.
First LP was Blue Hawaii, the divinely handsome Elvis Presley.

You two are so young. I saw Bowie in Ziggy Stardust mode in Croydon and I must have been early to mid twenties. He was good.

Oh, I remember watching this with my mum when I was a wee girl. I loved it. Loved Cher, I thought she was beautiful.

Bridie22 Thu 19-Sept-24 18:53:26

My first single was itchycoo park by small faces.
First album was by the stones but can't remember what the title was!

Grammaretto Thu 19-Sept-24 19:02:28

My very first record I bought was Wooden Heart by Elvis.
It had some German on it which I enjoyed pretending I understood.
I was about 12 so 1960?
I loved Buddy Holly and much American pop. I later discovered Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.

Macadia Thu 19-Sept-24 19:03:24

Maggie May by Rod Stewart. I had a plastic record player in a suitcase that would play it. The flip side was La Bamba Ritchie Valens.

The first single I bought was Carol King It might as well rain until September.
The first LP was Dionne Warwick Walk on By.
The only LP I’ve bought on Vinyl, tape and CD was Marvin Gaye What’s Going On. Needless to say I know every word to every song, as my daughter does to every song on the Bat out of Hell LP.

Oh, Marc..

One of my best memories was of when Tyrannosaurus Rex played at our small local Jazz Club in 1970, and Marc Bolan and Mickey Finn came over to the bar and chatted to me and my best friend for the whole of their interval, and bought us drinks. They were both incredibly good-looking, and I’m pleased to report that they were also absolute gentlemen, and so kind to us naive little 15 year olds. I think Marc probably chose to join us because he was wearing purple velvet dungarees and I was resplendent in my purple velvet hot pants!

Neil Diamond 'Hot August Night' (Double LP) bought in 1973
Loved it, played it every day after work, still play it now. Small scratch on one side now, it is so upsetting, no idea how it happened.
