A post this morning by Infoman, has prompted me to start this thread.
The first LP I purchased was, Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits, my first single, The most Beautiful Girl in the World, by Charlie Rich.
Working over the summer as a student in the Knorr factory, enabled me to buy my first record player.
I'm getting all nostalgic! 😉

78 RPM, of Last Train to San Fernando'. I had fallen in (16 yrs old) total love with someone I met on holiday in Isle of Wight that summer. This song had been played almost continuously from a local arcade, and', helped me to remember that wonderful couple of weeks. Then on flip side found it was 'They tried to tell us we're too young', which had me in tears, as it summed up so much of my feelings.

Kept this single for so long, until one of my children stepped on it many years later - and I had nothing further to do with that 'love of my life' in that holiday.

It'll do you good, Marydoll
Simple pleasures, and all that.

That's my excuse, anyway. smile

I am sorry I started this thread, I have wasted half my morning on You Tube clicking on Miss A's links! 🤣

I must post on the Procrastination Thread. wink

I can remember Grocer Jack from when (I think) I was very young.

Mine was Grocer Jack by Keith West and I also bought Tears of a clown by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles at the same time.

Diana by Paul Anka

I remember when 78s were large and breakable, my brother left his Chris Barber jazz records on a chair and I sat on them.
He was not best pleased. 😮

LadyGracie

I Feel Fine by The Beatles, I bought it in the NAAFI in Berlin in 1964 aged 13.

Mine too Gracie. I was 8 and bought it with a record token I got for Christmas. I can't remember my first album. Possibly Ralph Mctell. Another Marc Bolan fan here. I was distraught when he died!

First single was Not Fade Away by the Stones. The Beatles were not edgy enough for me.

Could it be Forever, David Cassidy; first album, The Partridge Family!

Highlights from Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten.

La Fille Mal Gardée ballet by Herold.

Or possibly Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony. I can’t quite remember now.

And Baggs Sibelius 5th. I am glad I was not the only nerdy child who liked classical music.
My first LP record was 'Night on a Bald Mountain' by Modest Mussorgsky. I went to see Disney 'Fantasia' in the cinema and loved the music.
My father liked classical music too and we had loads of 78s but mostly baroque stuff.
