A post this morning by Infoman, has prompted me to start this thread.
The first LP I purchased was, Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits, my first single, The most Beautiful Girl in the World, by Charlie Rich.
Working over the summer as a student in the Knorr factory, enabled me to buy my first record player.
I'm getting all nostalgic! 😉

Do you mean Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues or A Whiter Shade Of Pale by Procol Harum?

MissAdventure Thu 19-Sept-24 11:32:51

Me too, Dee1012.
He still rates as one of the top best looking men for me.

Highlights from Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten.

La Fille Mal Gardée ballet by Herold.

Or possibly Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony. I can’t quite remember now.

The first single I bought was Albatross by Fleetwood Mac. I still love it although M&S have spoiled it a little for me.

I don’t remember which album I first paid money for but I do remember borrowing a copy of Songs of Leonard Cohen from a friend of my brother and using my Dad’s reel to reel recorder to tape the whole album. I was about fifteen and have been a fan ever since.

Humphrey Littleton ‘ Bad Penny Blues’. I loved trad jazz and our special jive that we did to the music in the school hall on wet lunch breaks. Usually ended when told to end that terrible noise by the head!

Oh, Marc..

My first records were a Christmas present from my parents when I was about 9, With the Beatles and Please Please Me LPs, I was a massive fan and they quite liked them too. I can't remember the first single I actually bought with my money that would have been a couple of years later. I remember my brother buying Walking Back to Happiness by Helen Shapiro cos it went something like this "omp ah oh yay e yay" or that's what it sounded like to me.

Dogmum2 Thu 19-Sept-24 10:21:06

Gangsters - The Specials

Elusivebutterfly Thu 19-Sept-24 10:20:09

First single was Love Me do, shared with my brother, and bought the year after it came out when my father bought our first record player.

You're My World, Cilla.

It would have to be the theme to The Virginian by Percy Faith. I was madly in love with James Drury!

Katek Thu 19-Sept-24 09:54:16

First single was Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan - with Subterranean Homesick Blues as the B side. Think album would most likely have been Beatles For Sale.

Kate1949 Thu 19-Sept-24 09:51:02

First LP, Please Please Me by The Beatles. First single, probably Love Me Do but I remember buying Just One Look by The Hollies quite early on.

Maggiemaybe Thu 19-Sept-24 09:39:11

My first single was Concrete and Clay by Unit 4 + 2. I can’t remember buying any LPs back in the day, but when I was at college my flatmate had Simon and Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits. It was the only album we had and I can still remember every word of every song. Though for some reason it always skipped the word “whores” in The Boxer!

kittylester Thu 19-Sept-24 09:37:10

First single was 54321 by Manfred Mann and first LP was West Side Story.
