Just curious if everyone has a favourite chair, what it is and why :-) I mentioned on another thread I've been looking for a new chair. Haven't decided on anything yet but probably will soon.

Will a bench do? Beside the village pond.
Love that chair escaped - was it upholstered especially for you or is that original?
It's a one-off, but I can't remember the name of the upholsterer company. I'm hoping to get a similar one in coffee and cream for our bedroom makeover. I will admit they're not overly comfortable unless you're a cat!
Not one to lounge in, but...
About a year ago, I was visiting the local tip and I saw this chair frame, pretty shape, wood needing lots of TLC, seat in rags with horse-hair hanging out.
Gave £4 for it, took it round to friend who knows about antiques, anin one of her books, a whole page picture of what my chair frame had been: early C20 Sheraton revival.
I paid £100 to have it restored and I really love having it in my newly decorated bedroom. IMO it is both pretty and distinguished.
I have one chair I sit with both my legs over one arm :-) Not sure I could manage to just put one leg over!
I have a Parker knoll three piece suite with two recliner chairs, one of which is in my garden room and my late husband occupied it almost permanentl!!! I now use it all the time and there is a slight indentation on the left arm where he used to rest his hand and a screwed up loose cushion on the seat that fits into my lower back and eases my aches in that area. I get huge comfort from sitting in it, imagine we are still holding hands by putting my hand where his used to be! Soppy old fool, aren’t I? Xxx
My wooden rocking chair. I love it.
My favourite is a leather rocking recliner. It is big enough for me to sit in cross-legged and is just so comfortable.
As long as it has a high back to rest my head on I'm fine. If it's a recliner too so much the better.
Love to read of other GN people 'throwing one leg over the chaur arm'!! I do this and sometimes 'throw' both over! My favourite chair, an electric recliner' is in the summer house so not in use once the weather changes!
Since I had a fall and fractured my spine, my most comfortable chair is the Ikea Poang. Cheap but just suits my back. I do miss it when I am away from home. Has a foot stool
as well. Much more comfy than any other one even the expensive Kettler recliners in my conservatory.
Yup! A lovely, comfy armchair where I knit, read, do the crossword and play games on my phone. It was bought by my parents when they married in 1949!! Love it and it still has a lot of wear in it. I also have a large kitchen table that I acquired from a friend who was throwing it out in 1976! I'm the original recycler/ recyclist a d nothing goes to landfill if I can help it.
Another Poang afficionado here. The 'spring' is the thing! Also Halo Reggio brown leather little high backed 2 seater - for curling up.
I am sitting on the John Lewis sofa bed at present.
We bought it for mum when she had had a back operation and needed a firm and fairly high seat to stand up from easily. The bed part is really comfy too for visitors.
It must be at least 20 yrs old.
My latest chair is one I found on free cycle as a project for an upholstery class. I didn't finish it but recently a friend has and it's really nice.
Third favourite is my 1930's 2 seater settee with ends that come down. We inherited it.
I've had it reupholstered but it has
had heavy wear.
I'm loving this thread!
I have a Poang as well, but the movement makes me feel a bit giddy - my AC love it
I love a good wing chair. I have a green leather one which is blissfully comfortable and in the TV area we have a matching pair of terracotta slightly more formal wing chairs. we have never suffered from bad backs since we bought these chairs in the past 15 years. My husband also had a hand made green leather chair with rolled arms and a lower back and there is a large two-seater(fits three people easily) green leather sofa . We had a rustic wooden chest , great for storage so we had the top padded and re-upholstered in green leather and had wheels fitted so it means we can both put out feet up on it at the same time. In the TV area we also had a lovely big square ottoman stool covered in the terracotta leather which again is a great footstool that we can both use. The terracotta probably sounds an odd colour but it goes perfectly with a large Italian fresco and looks much nicer than it sounds.
We have a corner setee. Beloved sits at one end and I sit at the other. Nice and comfy for stretching out.
I can sit anywhere as long as I have my Back Friend! But an Ikea Poang was known as the magic chair when DGD was a baby as there was just enough “give” to rock her to sleep.

🥰
I love my dad’s tall recliner, it lifts & tilts him forwards to help him up.
Someone on here had a beautiful little nursing chair that they had recovered themselves- I have also got a similar chair by the kitchen door & like to sit & read- may get mine recovered but it’s quite expensive & not a dab hand at stuff like that, so will have to stay a little shabby a while longer

This one in Harris tweed that I bought last summer.
Ooh that is lovely
I thought OP meant what type of chair do we find most comfortable, rather than a particular chair. I love a Queen Anne style chair with a wingback. Perfect shape to hold your back correctly, arms at right height to hold your forearms, and wings comfortable enough to nod off against, which happens me regularly! Ours are getting very tatty so need recovering rather than replacing!
