Welcome!

Thank you for all your support, especially of late. I greatly appreciate your patience. You are truly the best.

Buffet is open. For those who enjoy a glass of bubbly, there is plenty in the chill cabinet.

Enjoy!

I must away for a wee while. I shall catch up later. flowers

Your contentment leaps off the page, FGT, and is an example to me. I have had two days confined to barracks as the weather is awful, and I feel the lack of stimulus. Our little local, river is spreading itself all over the village and we have lots of displaced cars parked by us. I am just refusing to believe that the water will come into the house (it never has) and hoping for the best. First light tomorrow will show how right I am!

Jaxjacky Sun 24-Nov-24 19:37:48

Excellent Usedtoneblonde may you have many years of pleasure from it.
Doesn’t it give you a warm glow Grannmarie when you can take pride in your grandchildren and also their parents who have put the effort in, leading by example to doubt.
Heavy rain and winds here for the last couple of hours, I have my advent calendar poised for next Sunday brook!
Hugs to those in the quiet comforting corner.

Grannmarie Sun 24-Nov-24 20:39:34

Thank you, Jaxjacky. Good luck to your daughter for tomorrow! New beginnings!

FGT, sounds like you've had a wonderful time with Himself and three generations of your family, so much to be thankful for indeed. 🥰

Utbb, you are quite right, I hope your new sofa and sitting room bring you much comfort and joy! Please send us a photo when it's all ready.

GrannySomerset, I'm hoping and praying that the flood waters pass you by, stay warm and dry.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA, NNGB 😴

Hellogirl so sorry to hear your news. Sending you warm hugs.

Hellogirl1 Sun 24-Nov-24 21:49:18

Thank you so much everyone for your kind remarks. It`s 2 years today since my son died, so a double whammy.
My youngest son and his wife have invited me to their house for Christmas dinner, and maybe tea as well. I was thinking that I wouldn`t bother with cooking Christmas dinner just for me, so that will be lovely.
Does anyone know how long it takes the coroner to get moving?

Susan56 Sun 24-Nov-24 22:05:35

Hellogirl, my mother in laws death was referred to the coroner. It was three weeks from when she died to the funeral but it maybe took longer as she died on Boxing Day.
Thinking of you.x

harrigran Sun 24-Nov-24 22:22:17

Very late to this thread, my sincere condolences Hellogirl 💐

Ali23 Sun 24-Nov-24 22:37:59

So sorry to hear your sad news Hellogirl. I do hope the coroner is swift.
Can anyone at the hospital let you know what to expect?

Charleygirl5 Sun 24-Nov-24 22:43:35

Hellogirl I was so sorry to hear that awful news, my condolences to you. That will be lovely having a proper Christmas lunch with your youngest son and his wife.

It is very heavy rain in my part of London- I do hope when people wake up tomorrow, their houses will be dry and cosy.

It is going to become much colder and we are still in November.

Please take care of yourselves.

cornergran Sun 24-Nov-24 23:03:50

Flood alert arrived an hour or so ago, just the thing to ensure a peaceful nights sleep! Looking into the detail we seem safe enough here, it’s for a huge river far enough away not to inundate us. I’m not surprised, it sure has rained. Hope you stay dry too grannysomerset.

If we can’t please ourselves now utb when can we? Good for you for prioritising yourself. Good wishes to your daughter jax. I’m pleased you’ll be with family:for Christmas lunch hellogirl.

Time for some sleep, I hope. Meeting a GN friend tomorrow close to the wretched eye hospital. Not sure if I’ll get a bus from here which takes forever or use the slightly faster park and ride route. See what the morning bejngs. If it’s pouring it will be the car to the park and ride. Can’t think why. 😂. The venue we make use of suits us both so I don’t mind the time the journey takes.

Goodnight every one. Sleep tight.

Usedtobeblonde Mon 25-Nov-24 01:26:33

Another night waking after a couple of hours which is why I am reading GN.
Hellogirl what a very sad day for you, I am so pleased your family are rallying round you and planning for you.
Once again Christmas is going to be difficult, will there be any small children there?
They will lift your spirits I am sure.
There is worry and sadness for many kitcheners and I know it is so hard when shops and magazines are proclaiming what a wonderful time of year it is and how merry and jolly we all are.
We who have lived a long time know just how very wrong that can be.

Lots to catch up on in the kitchen. I am soooo glad I actually made it home on Saturday night. It was very touch and go whether I'd be able to travel on Friday. I think I've had/having a diverticulitis episode...it's going on a bit too long IBS. Up until about 2pm on Friday I really didn't know how I was going to make to the 4pm train but knowing that the next days work couldn't happen unless I did meant make up on...gritted teeth and a big jumper to cover the ' pregnancy ' sized tummy. I stayed with my lovely former neighbours and we managed a couple of hours catch up before I fell into bed. God was certainly with me on Saturday as the weather was atrocious and I felt so sorry for my team recruiting but they pulled out all the stops and we finally managed to get 50 men through the door to sniff deodorants. I took the decision to work through lunch and I'm so glad I did as we finished early and it meant that they were all home safe by 6pm despite disruptions on the roads and rail. My original train was for 7pm but I managed to get a seat on the 4pm one and was home by 7pm....just in time for an absolute houli to arrive. Phew.
Mass yesterday was so uplifting..the feast of Christ the King...the last Sunday in the liturgical year before Advent starts next week. It sounds absolutely daft but having been a Catholic all my life and attended Mass regularly....it has changed completely for me since attending the 6 week course on the Biblical journey through the Mass. I have always treasured my faith but this has transformed it for me. I felt very blessed to be sharing it too with my DH.

Soop...I hope you are both recovering from the trials of the last few weeks and healing is taking place.
Jax...Good Luck to your daughter for today and her new job.
GrandmaB...I hope the doctors are able to sort out your pain and quickly too so you can get some sleep tonight. I couldn't get off to sleep last night until nearly 2am.
Granmaretto....have a great time at the art show today.
UTBB...good on you deciding to buy a new sofa...it sounds lovely.
Cornergran...I don't think we are not too far away from one another so feel your concern...our little tributary about 200 yards away is very close to breaching but we are uphill of it thankfully. There are no trains between the county town and London at all today hence why I am so glad I got home when I did.
Hellogirl...I hope today brings you some answers and the way forward with the coroner. It was lovely to read that you will be with your son for Christmas ... I'm sure tears will be shed at times but hope and pray that the shared memories of your DH and DC bring you all some joy too. ♥️
FGT...I couldn't be happier than to read your happy posts just now...long long long may it continue.
It looks pretty calm outside now so I'm going to see if I can venture into town for some Buscopan in the hope that it will ease the discomfort a bit. Too much information I know....but as the bloating needs to go somewhere I may have to take a long walk this afternoon 😂😂😂
Love to you all especially those I've forgotten to mention.

brook2704 Mon 25-Nov-24 16:40:10

It’s been a very wet and windy day up here in Inverness, quite dark most of the day too. I did my volunteering this morning then called into DD2s to help with a bit of tidying up after their busy weekend. Home now and nothing else planned for the rest of the day
Hope you’re doing ok hellogirl and get some news from the coroner soon, look after yourself
Hope you got a bit more sleep later uttb
Good to hear from you neine and to catch up on your news

GrannyGravy13 Mon 25-Nov-24 16:52:30

I am at a children’s birthday party at a huge soft play centre (second one in two days)

GC and from are having a fabulous time, me, not so much 🤣🤣

brook2704 Mon 25-Nov-24 17:16:51

Enjoy the mayhem GG13! 🎈🎂

Bellasnana Mon 25-Nov-24 17:28:24

It’s rather a long time since I ventured into the Kitchen but I looked in to see if there was any news from Grandmabatty as she was unwell this morning.

I was shocked and saddened to read of the sad loss of your daughter, Hellogirl. I too remember you had lost your son and I send my heartfelt condolences. I can only imagine the pain in your heart.💔

Jaxjacky Mon 25-Nov-24 18:07:45

I hope corner and usedtobeblonde had their full quota of sleep.
You’ve been busy neine I hope you’re feeling better now.
An odd shower earlier, otherwise sun and cloud today, the voluntary phone was pretty quiet until the last half an hour, quiz later.
I feel your pain GG13 🙂
Have a pleasant evening all

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 25-Nov-24 18:19:22

‘Evening All’.

A pleasant day for us with no calls on our time. Lovely. We make the most of these anxiety-free days while we can. Sometimes unwelcome thoughts try to nudge at me but I’m getting better at not giving them headspace. I’ve just put pork chops in the oven, Himself is in the main room enjoying a film.

Another here who is wondering how Grandmabatty got on at the doctors this afternoon. I hope she has been reassured.

👋 to Blossoming if you’re reading. x

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 25-Nov-24 18:20:51

I keep forgetting ‘Dixon’! I used to love that programme when I was in junior school. Black & white tv natch.

Grandmabatty Mon 25-Nov-24 18:27:47

Thank you for your concern. It's not my kidney, thank goodness. He's pretty sure it is osteoarthritis in my hip and has given me stronger painkillers. I've to go back if it doesn't improve. Grannygravy they are awful places! My sympathy

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 25-Nov-24 19:15:54

Phew! Grandma batty I hope the stronger analgesics allow you a better sleep tonight. Maybe too being less anxious will help. If your mind is settled your body follows.

Yiayia4 Mon 25-Nov-24 19:29:36

Thinking of you Hellogirl.🌹
Feel better soon Grandmabatty.
DH is feeling better thank goodness apart from a lingering cough. He will be seeing the consultant regarding the catheter on Thursday so hopefully they can sort that out.To be honest I’m feeling jaded it’s all been non stop for over six months but, it will get better.I picked up our littlest,Oscar from school today and took him on to football practice then back here for tea.It was lovely to spend some time with him he’s growing up so fast.
Take care everyone.

cornergran Mon 25-Nov-24 20:42:27

Hopes those tablets help grandmab and you get a decent nights sleep.

I’m smiling as I write. My sleep pattern hasn’t been sensible for many a year. It’s rare I feel properly rested but it’s sort of OK, enough energy to do what’s needed. Averaging four hours at the moment and doing an awful lot of night time reading. Fortunately Mr C can sleep through anything and I don’t disturb him. smile.

Good to hear from you neine. Sounds as if you might need a rest. Good news your husband is feeling better yia, I’m not surprised you’re not on top of the world though. Good for you for keeping those thoughts at bay FGT. A well deserved medal for you grannyg, fortunately all ours have outgrown soft play, I still bear the scars.

If she’s up to it we’ll meet our friend who recently had a stroke tomorrow, fortunately after effects are minimal however she’s understandably wary of going out. Looks like we’re bodyguards, hope we can bolster confidence. It will be good to see her and her partner who was beyond worried.

Fortunately we’ve avoided flooding here but have been glued to tv pictures of the area Mr C grew up in. Those poor people, second time in four years.

How are you all getting on writing Christmas cards, if you do? All my good intentions are somehow being overtaken by things I prefer to do. I really must make an effort, not tomorrow though, we’ll not be home grin.

Feet up time here now. Look after yourselves everyone.

Redcar Mon 25-Nov-24 20:50:24

grandmabatty I’m pleased it’s not your kidney causing the pain, but an arthritic hip is no fun either. I hope the stronger painkillers enable you to sleep.
yiayia good that your DH is feeling better, and I hope that the consultant can do something about the catheter to make him more comfortable.
Have a peaceful evening everyone and sleep well 🤞.
Night night.

brook2704 Mon 25-Nov-24 22:05:52

Lovely to see you in the kitchen bellas
Good to hear that your DH is feeling a bit better Yia and pleased that you got to spend some happy time with your littlest Oscar
Hope your friend does ok tomorrow corner must be scary for her
Hugs to everyone in the quiet corner, hoping Mr &Mrs Soop are doing ok, take care all x
