Do you ever get a day when for no real reason you feel really sad and down ? I don’t mean depression or anything major just a day maybe two when you feel sad and low but no real idea why.

(Sorry, bit of a typo there!)

Madwoman11 Mon 14-Oct-24 12:23:37

Yes for me it's generally tiredness that causes it, or worry

polnan Mon 14-Oct-24 12:30:08

oh goodness, so me,, in so many ways, I put it down to getting older, and not able to do what I used to be able to do..

now cycling! that would be so wonderful, even walking now is getting not so easy,,

so good to come here and find that I am not a weirdo!

Etoile2701 Mon 14-Oct-24 12:36:21

Yes often. I had one yesterday.

dragonfly46 Mon 14-Oct-24 12:43:51

I don't feel like that often but this week has been hard. One good friend has died, another's DH has been diagnosed with dementia and another friend diagnosed with terminal cancer. My DS has also been diagnosed with diabetes following an operation on his pancreas 14 years ago.
It feels as if things are falling apart and on top of that I have Covid.

As you say though it will pass.

Never feel down, I’ve got a list of stuff to do today, a list that needs doing soon, another list to do sometime.
So I’m lucky, I don’t get time to worry about being depressed

sandye Mon 14-Oct-24 12:45:28

I used to but think I had a bit of sad syndrome. I started to take a vitamin D tablet daily. Just from Tesco, nothing expensive, feel a lot better now, so will continue to take it. Don't seem to have those days now.

Bea65 Mon 14-Oct-24 12:49:01

BlueBelle I get you...living alone when you have one or two of these 'off days,' there's no-one to "jolly you along" or, give you a hug...am experiencing more of these - SAD is prevalent with me and if the sun is bright early in the morning, I can get up and motivate myself..but if not, hard to get going...

BlueBelle Mon 14-Oct-24 12:52:41

This wasn't just a mood that you can shake off by doing something It wasn’t really brought on by anything happening I could totally understand that. I ve never had it before which made it so stark and not comprehensible
I just wanted to sob for no reason I didn’t feel like doing anything, then I was so upset I d done nothing such an alien day
I had been poorly for a couple of weeks previously(Covid/cold)
maybe it was the aftereffects
It just felt so different to my normal personality (which annoying to some) is a cup half full type
I really feel for everyone who has bad happenings, deaths in
and sickness in the family that pulls them down.

This was a weird unexplained day I hope I never have another

Yes the dark cold days and the thought of this for months isn’t a good thought
My sincere thoughts go to anyone feeling sad or upset whatever the reason 💐

How pleased I am to read this thread (obviously I sympathise with the poster)
I too have those days and thought it was just me that felt like this.
I have no reason to feel like a grey puppy but that doesn’t make it easier to deal with doesn’t?

heavenlyheath Mon 14-Oct-24 13:04:07

I certainly do have days like that. Mornings I just don't want to get out of bed but have to walk the dogs so I plod on, it can be so lonely on your own

LadyGaGa Mon 14-Oct-24 13:07:47

Yes. Me too. Sometimes I can be doing something really lovely - be out laughing with friends, have lots of family round me etc. , but I just feel flat for no particular reason and want to be on my own. And I can certainly relate to waking up with a sinking feeling. Most of the time I know what it is, but not always. Just life I suppose.

BlueBelle Mon 14-Oct-24 13:26:00

I m so glad I started this thread and we are all in it together
big 🤗 for everyone who has a completely unexplain down down downs day
And an even bigger hug 🥰🤗for those with broken hearts for a reason

💐🏵️🌼🌻🪻🌹A few flowers for you. I get occasional random days like that, hardly ever, but they do puzzle me. Nothing seems behind them, so I always guess it's hormonal/ chemical, or as you wonder, post viral. COVID inventors have much to answer for...

Sarahsw19 Mon 14-Oct-24 14:42:41

Yes, I know what you mean .
Just feel down for no reason at all
I’ve decided it’s just chemicals in our brains that make us feel certain ways - and those chemicals soon disperse and are nothing to worry about. Have a relaxing day and you’ll feel happier very soon.

I wish I wasn’t so affected by the weather. I think I must be solar powered! After a few grey dull days. I get very down.

missdeke Mon 14-Oct-24 15:35:01

If I wake up in the morning and the skies are blue I am happy and ready for the day. If they are grey I find it difficult to get going.

62dg Mon 14-Oct-24 16:09:29

I am so grateful to read all these replies today, as it can feel very isolating when you get days like you describe. So to know I am not alone in feeling like it has actually helped. I will remember when those days come along in future, that I am not alone.

Spencer2009 Mon 14-Oct-24 16:47:43

I’m sure we all have sad days for whatever reason, but I get up every day and go into town and buy a coffee. I find getting out the house in the morning helps my day feel better.

I find the power of positive thinking helps when I'm feeling low. I repeat to myself "I'm fine. It's going to be fine.' And then I feel better.

Dianehillbilly1957 Mon 14-Oct-24 17:55:14

Yes, mostly when I wake up, no idea why and what it's all about but by the time I'm up and dressed it's all forgotten, guess it's an getting older thing!! Hate it though.

I have found so much comfort in reading this thread. Today - although the weather has been glorious - has been one such for me. I had to go to a committee meeting, which I find very difficult as I am very deaf. A lot of things are changing around me, and there is the possibility of other big changes ahead. One that really upset me was the imminent closing of our wonderful Chinese restaurant where, for the past 15 years, our tai chi group has gone for a Chinese Banquet. We shall miss that so much. I really don't like change now I'm old, and of course everything does change. That all seems so trivial when I see it written down, but I came home feeling more down than I have felt for many a long year and so longed for someone to put their arms around me.
Reading everyone's experiences - and my heart breaks for those of you who have lost a child - has made me feel not quite so alone. Thank you for your company x

My husband is very affected by the weather. He woke up this morning and we had plans to go out and buy some new clothes for his birthday. He said he just wanted to get under the quilt and sleep all day. I do understand but when we lived in Spain he slept every afternoon whilst I was a speed typist at a newspaper. It did get to me at times.

I know how you feel.

We were flooded out by Henk (Jan 2nd) and parked in a lovely Travelodge (Stone M6 Northbound, with lake and wonderful staff) by our insurers. The clearing team turned up a fortnight ago and have now nearly finished clearing. I hope to see some plans for renovation in the near future. I need to go home to let out, feed and shut in our chickens each day; and to feed the cat which has taken up residence and for which I'm very grateful as s/he keeps the rats away. Before her/his arrival they ransacked everything and nibbled through the inlet hose for the dishwasher. I was not strong enough to turn the water off at the mains so the flooding continued till the clearers arrived. They disposed of all the damp and muddy items into skips and also smashed up our eighteenth century carved oak funiture as they said it was contaminated, which was very distressing. Many of our books and family records were also tipped into a skip, though they did try to let me rescue what I could find.

My DH has heart failure and dementia due to strokes as well as a problem catheter and mobility difficulties. Our daughter lives near us and is very helpful, doing laundry etc.. Our sons and daughters-in-law are further away but are great at keeping in contact and do what they can.

We are safe, warm, and able to feed ourselves, so when I remember my parents, who lived and worked in London
during the blitz with its nightly air raids, I really do not have much to complain about. People in Gaza are far worse off than we are. I am 80 and could drop dead anytime as my mother did. So what is the point of worrying?

Ljp1 flowers.
