Is there anything you cannot buy on Amazon?!

I do try to support local businesses when I can, but I'm in the midst of a whole house renovation and I reckon I've saved well over £1000 by using Amazon - I even paid for Prime membership for a year but it's still way more economical most of the time. Plus you can generally get things the next day which is great when you've got workmen waiting for things.

Like it or hate it, the business model is firmly geared towards to the customer which of course makes perfect sense. Happy customer = high profit.

I support small local shops but Amazon is so handy. It seems there’s nothing they can’t deliver in hours

Would like to continue buying local but sadly stores have closed and I am getting old so no longer going here and there as I used to do. Amazon has been a life saver. Had great buys and such quick deliveries. Bought everything from vitamins to a lawn mower and microwave.Bed covers, duvets, towels, bedside lamps, presents,books etc etc etc. it’s customer friendly in every way. Plus Amazon Prime on tv. Its a perfect business model.

There’s a local bakery that makes the best shortbread I,ve ever tasted,My friend bought some when she was visiting from Canada and wanted me to send her a few tins .It was costing an arm and a leg so she checked on Amazon and they don’t have it.Its availableacross Scotland so she thought she would get it online.Posting seems the only option

I get quite a bit from there - now I live in a remote area.

But one can't usually find decent-quality clothes on there I find and I have to be near one of "my" shops for that (ie in a city). Though I have been known to contact Marks & Spencers for anything I want from them (as the town I'm living in is too small for even a small-size one - and I'm used to quite a large one).

For house things - eg furniture - I use Wayfair and find what I want and order from them. Their website could be a bit better organised - but it's just about navigable and one can find whatever quality of things one is looking for. For instance I recently wanted a ceiling fan cum light for my bedroom and there was every quality going on there - from cheapie to "How much?!", I was able to input what size of room it is and they suggested a range of ceiling fans for that size room for me to choose from and I then studied the reviews to see if I could find one that said totally silent (as that is what I must have myself) and found one where every review commented on the silence and got that one. It did subsequently develop a fault on me - but it was a decent length guarantee and I rang Wayfair, an electrician told them what the fault was and they promptly sent me a whole new fan in the post and I had to send them the old one back (so I couldnt complain about that service then...).

I have used Amazon since Covid and now I can’t get out it is invaluable to me.
We must have a local distribution centre because on a couple of occasions I have ordered in the morning and had delivery in the evening.
Mostly next day delivery and good drivers here which apparently is not the same everywhere.

Soon there will be no choice but to use Amazon!

I am another who refused to use Amazon, lockdown happened at it was my saviour.

I use local shops whenever possible, I use M & S, NotontheHighSt.com and John Lewis often, but unfortunately there are so many things which I can only find on Amazon…

I have to use it for my kindle books, but otherwise can find everything I need at other shops.

I always try the local shops first, I like to see what I’m buying, unless it’s something I know about. However, some things, especially little gadgets or DIY stuff, are difficult to find without trailing round several different locations. Amazon is good for buying theses and getting them quickly.

I too refused to use Amazon until lock down and well that changed our world irrevocably. I didn't even realise when I signed up, part of the package with Amazon was Prime Video and a whole new world of on line entertainment opened up, although once that novelty wore off, I have scratched around on there trying to find something worthwhile to watch. Still I keep my subscription going, it is the ease of deliveries and the breadth of what they can supply is almost endless, in any case sometimes I have to admit I hate trawling the shops trying to find something quite obscure and as posters have pointed out, if they don't have shops or can't get to shops then Amazon is going to mop up in those instances. Although there was something once I couldn't get, even on Amazon, but I've forgotten what it was. Having said that, I deplore a world vision of just a choice of Amazon and God forbid Temu and Shein, which I keep well away from. I still want to support the independents and the high street and do so. It does annoy me however, even when shopping in say John Lewis, how much of their merchandise is made in China.

Sorry, apologies to local businesses, but I have been seduced by amazon, next day delivery is just so sweet. And I bake cakes a lot for GCs birthdays and other family birthdays and the nearest shop that supplies cake ribbon, candles, decorations etc. is nearly an hours drive away and supermarkets are rubbish at this.

I would normally rather do without than buy from Amazon after viewing the above documentary and reading articles about the company's treatment of their staff . However, I couldn't get my favourite Fenjal deodorant anywhere - neither on line nor in shops locally or elsewhere, so asked DH to order from Amazon adding a couple more items from the same range as a treat for me! The box arrived completely saturated in oil from a bottle that had clearly been opened as the seal had been broken. Neither the remaining oil nor the other items including the several deodorants included smelled of much let alone the scent I love. We won't be ordering from Amazon again....I still can't get Fenjal anywhere. The parent company did not reply to my queries and the Manchester distributor had initially said they didn't deliver to the Northern Isles..... although they changed their mind by which time the Amazon order had been placed. Could this be another Bexit dividend?
Any ideas?

Terribull. Apart from goods from China I don’t think many realise how much of our infrastructure China invests hugely in. A quick google search is very educational. Transport, Energy, Schools, Football Clubs and so much more. The goods manufactured in China are definitely not the whole story!

I used to use Ebay a lot more but have now come down to Amazon for new stuff. Unfortunately Amazon dont sell antiques. But all the bits I used to buy in local shops and the likes of Woolworths - vitamin suppliments, camera batteries, stationery, and all those handy little household gadgets - I now buy on AZ.

I use it a lot to save time, petrol and my feet.

I've been going around local DIY stores trying to buy blue gloss paint. But there's an awful lack of decent colours in gloss paint.
But I looked on Amazon and there it was, just the colour I wanted.

I've pretty much got the idea myself just how much of OUR assets are "owned" by someone else and often it's China. Hence these days on appropriate goods on Amazon I do look out for ones where I can that come from Britain or, failing that, then one of the European countries (eg I want all my household machinery from Germany for instance).

Also Mr Google. I was helping SiL out with Gdcs this week - dd was away for work - when it transpired that Gds needed black shorts - no branding or logo allowed! - for school PE.

Google found several sources for me, I ordered from a High St. shop - I forget which - and they were delivered to Gds the following day.
