Is there anything you cannot buy on Amazon?!

Thre fruitless trips out to get ferrules for my walking poles and Amazon had them .
One thing that they don't have - Russian Sauce !

I have to admit I love Amazon. You name it they've got it. We don't have many shops in our area so Amazon it is.

Terribull. Apart from goods from China I don’t think many realise how much of our infrastructure China invests hugely in. A quick google search is very educational. Transport, Energy, Schools, Football Clubs and so much more. The goods manufactured in China are definitely not the whole story!

I've pretty much got the idea myself just how much of OUR assets are "owned" by someone else and often it's China. Hence these days on appropriate goods on Amazon I do look out for ones where I can that come from Britain or, failing that, then one of the European countries (eg I want all my household machinery from Germany for instance).

Most of the products produced by Bosch and Siemens are produced outside Germany mainly India.

I cannot get Vichy Dermablend on there which I use as a concealer.

I do pretty much all of my non-food shopping online, except for the occasional hobble around M&S for clothes. (My husband insists on going to the supermarket - I liked getting groceries online during Covid and would have happily carried on.) My mobility is very bad now and I'm so glad that I can do my Christmas shopping, for example, online instead of dragging around the shops. It used to be even worse when my husband was working and, as I don't drive, I used to haul it all home on the bus. At least I could walk properly in those days, though.

I do browse other websites but so often Amazon has the best choice and the best prices. What clinches it for me, though, is the customer service. It is very rarely a hassle to return or exchange anything, and if you do have a problem they will ring you back and sort it out straight away.

Remember back in the day on GN when posters used to be mindful of advertising and so referred to it as The Big River Company? 😁

We use Amazon a lot because of the convenience and the returns policy, you can return most things without any hassle or questions and since we have been customers for many years we are usually refunded for returns immediately. I had an iPad that stopped charging after six months, I contacted Amazon and because the iPad came from a third party they were unable to replace it but they offered me a 100% refund on receipt of the faulty iPad and emailed me a returns postage label, this was on the same day I contacted them. I wouldn’t have got anything approaching this service from Curry’s/PC World or another retailer. Since then we buy more and more things from Amazon.

Well if they ever decide to expand their stock in that direction - I'll put in the search terms of tall/reasonable-looking/affectionate/intelligent/good at DIY/healthy (especially mentally)/someone who makes their own decisions (rather than being told what to think by government/employers/etc), faithful.......

....errm...I'll think of a fair few other things as well by the time I'm through........

Now why do I have a suspicion the stock will never be high enough to meet all requirements LOL?

Use Amazon all the time, love it, works so well. Much easier for me than driving 14 miles round trip to nearest town and paying around £3 to park. Shame it seems they don't look after their employees very well. I'd be lost without it!

I try to buy locally, but Amazon is good when you need something quickly. I use it for craft supplies.
Our town shops consist of M&S (not keen, apart from underwear), Next (not keen, overpriced and not my style), Boots (good choice but expensive), the usual supermarkets, H&M (cheap), Superdrug (ok), The Works (ok), Clarks (expensive), Matalan, Argos, Iceland, The Range, Dunelm. Shoes and clothes are hard to find.
Our village has independent shops, which I try to support as much as possible.
I’m drawn increasingly towards charity shops - I love having a rummage for useful bits and pieces. Also Vinted - it’s good for trying new makes, which are not based locally, e.g. FatFace, Seasalt, without spending a fortune. 😎
The one complaint I have about Amazon is that they leave valuable items on the doorstep! The couriers don’t even wait to see if there’s anyone at home! 🙄

Other suppliers are still available (until Jeff Bezos takes over the world) and I try all of them before resorting to this monopoly in desperation. I haven't used Amazon for years.

Usually I am a fan of Amazon. But have had trouble lately .
First they left a parcel in our porch. Wrong name, town, county! Same number and street name. Following week the replacement for that customer was left outside our next door neighbours house!
Then our dogs sack of dog food ordered didn't arrive as advised. After waiting for it all day our account was updated late evening as cancelled. Had been receiving it regularly for years!
Re-ordered and same ring happened a couple of days later.
Re-ordered again and after waiting all day saw it had been delivered to the wrong house. Photo shown. No idea if nearby or another town.
Husband being an optimist ordered it a 4th time. Due yesterday and it that didn't arrive! Photo shown looks like it was delivered to the same wrong address!
Have ordered it elsewhere. Had to have an emergency dash to Sainsbury's Tuesday night after 8pm for our dogs' breakfast!
Apparently Doncaster depot was supposed to be delivering it. Must be different to previous deliveries as they often message us to keep the dogs away from their driver and hadn't these occasions.Two enthusiastic Labrador pups!

I have always wanted a caracal, and I would like an Indian elephant too, but I very much doubt I can buy either on Amazon!

Or anywhere else for that matter.

Today I have bought from Amazon , shower hats. The kind you use in hotel shower room. 25 in pack I’m going to wear them in the swimming pool as I’m tired of getting my hair wet by splashy backstroke swimmers.. Paper liners for my air fryer. Little gold and silver magnets which hook on to necklaces making the necklace so easy to fasten. It would seem that anything I want Amazon has. These articles are hard to find on the High Street. They will all be with me in a few days.

We avoid using Amazon as much as possible, but unfortunately end up using it occasionally. It's so blooming convenient though.

What can't you get from Amazon? Well, HOW ABOUT a convincing explanation, AND an apology, for the disgraceful events of a few years ago, when ITV caught them (all on film) DUMPING thousands of tons (& millions of pounds worth) of electronic equipment into landfill sites, being taken FROM their depots. Their management denied it had happened, even when shown the film of THEIR trucks going from depot to the landfills!!

I'm still waiting to hear -- and I don't suppose it'll happen now (?!) -- from the relevant Tory minister about what sanctions were applied (that practice is quite illegal of course). They do it because it's cheaper than sending unwanted stock back to the actual supplier.

So, anyone remotely concerned re Global Warming? Apparently not??

Perhaps the comments about :- "the business model is firmly geared towards to the customer" and "it’s customer friendly in every way. . . . .Its a perfect business model" might be shaded a little bit in light of their pollution and law-breaking record?

Oh, and has anyone heard from the squeaky clean new Labour Govt if they have plans to more adequately TAX corporations like Amazon?? Or is it still just pensioner heating that's an easier target?

I hate them, DH loves them. I buy online a lot but try to use different businesses, often small family ones (like our own). I don't think they treat staff, delivery drivers etc well and as a side effect I think it's encouraging instant gratification, everybody wants everything yesterday - and cheap. That's not sustainable and the planet will suffer.
