Breakfast in bed?

I was listening to the radio and they were discussing this, and I realised I have never had as much as a cup of coffee in bed. I’m not counting things I’ve eaten or drunk when I was ill, but just having breakfast in bed as a ‘treat’.
I agreed with the fellow who said that if you have to sit up you’re as well in a chair, and if you’re in a chair you may as well get up properly.
And, how do you avoid crumbs or spillages?

Not for me, mainly because I don’t do breakfast anyway, but if I did, I wouldn’t 😵‍💫

I've never had breakfast in bed either. The idea just doesn't appeal to me. I have, however, had a cup of tea and a ginger biscuit in bed when I was pregnant with my daughter and suffering from morning sickness, after my doctor advised it and said it would help - and it did do the trick!

Trouble with breakfast in bed is crumbs! They linger however hard you try to sort out the bedding. I think one of my girls brought me toast and a cup of milk when they were quite small. Horrid but very sweet gesture.

I have had a cup of tea in bed every day since we were married, brought up by DH, when we are in a hotel I make one for him.

Just like GrannyGravy13 my DH has brought me a cup of tea every day since we were married.
Also a piece of toast and the paper every Sunday!
Very much appreciated especially when the children were little!

Snap, but our tipple is coffee.

I don’t like breakfast in bed.

I have a cup of tea in bed every morning delivered by my husband. He then brings me either porridge or toast and marmalade. I love it!

I used to be first up and took everybody a cup of tea before work/school/college around 7am. About 5 years ago we switched roles.

Yes! Love my morning cuppa in bed and sometimes we have a biscuit or toast or porridge with a second cuppa!!

Lucky us GrannyGravy13! My husband takes the woof out for a trot & then brings up coffee, biscuits & porridge for myself & the dog. (minus the coffee for the dog!) 😊 I pay him back in -kind.

Yes my DH has been known to bring me breakfast in bed years ago, tea & toast probably, gesture appreciated. But I haven't done "breakfast" for many years now, Think it originated with the upper classes who used to caruse till early hours & then had the option of staying in bed till 10 with a breakfast tray brought in then by staff, But I was brought up ' Early to rise, early to bed, makes a man healthy happy & wise' so I don't like to be in be after 8.30 although, actually, I'm not a man.

We sometimes have breakfast in bed.

If MrA has been out for a walk early in the morning and I'm still in bed when he gets home (not often) he brings up tea or coffee and toast or croissants - or whatever he can find. He curls up with me and we have breakfast together.

If the weather is really nice I might put my dressing gown on and we have breakfast in the garden instead.

No meals in bed. We eat/drink sitting at a table.

Cabbie21 Sat 09-Nov-24 17:16:38

No, I always get up and dressed before going down for breakfast. I used to get a cup of tea brought up by DH, so I miss that. Occasionally if I wake too early I go down and bring one back up, but not very often and not breakfast.
When I was a child, my mum used to bring us meals in bed if we were ill. We weren’t allowed to get up!

I have a cuppa in bed in the morning, but I am the one does it for myself and OH, will have to cite cases on here where other husbands perform thus task. The man is slacking 😂

Sunday morning croissants and tea in bed with the radio on. Lovely x

Ilovedogs22 Sat 09-Nov-24 17:23:44

Ohhh Norah you should try it & you never know where it might lead. Mr dog + Madame cat have both gone to the decadent dark -side & insist on sharing both porridge & biscuits with us, they pass on the coffee mind. 😊

We don’t have breakfast in bed. DH doesn’t even like a cup of tea until he’s been downstairs and eaten something. He does bring me a cup of tea when he goes to golf early or if I’m no up when he is ready for his.

kittylester Sat 09-Nov-24 17:25:14

We have always had a couple of cups of tea in bed in the morning but no food - unless one of us is ill. We used to religiously take turns but now it's whoever happens to do it.

Ooh I love breakfast in bed... even though I have to make it myself.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 09-Nov-24 17:35:50

Always TIB brought by Himself over the years and since retirement reading the newspapers for an hour. GBNEWS on the tv too if we’ve a mind. If not, Alexa with a radio station. Then Himself gets up to sort his breakfast - cereal, fruit - and brings me a second mug of tea. I know, I’m spoiled. While he showers I get up and make my porridge on the hob, then take it back to bed ….

Why not? Where’s the rush.

Imarocker Sat 09-Nov-24 17:37:06

DH brings me coffee and cereal in bed every morning. I love a slow start to the day. We read the papers and I email my friends. Have to say this is usually about 6,30am

NotAGran55 Sat 09-Nov-24 17:39:23

No food, but two coffees every morning before getting up.
I have a little Nespresso machine is the bedroom ☕️. I’m always awake by 0530 and it’s a great start to the day.

I'm another one lucky enough to have a cup of tea every morning brought by DH. We drink our tea and chat, we read several chapters of our respective books, we chat a bit more then -and only then - do we shower, dress and go downstairs for breakfast which is quite often taken separately, depending on what our day holds.

Before Mr. G and I met and married, I lived alone for a long time and at weekends (I was still working back then) I'd make myself breakfast in bed as a treat.
