Breakfast in bed?

I was listening to the radio and they were discussing this, and I realised I have never had as much as a cup of coffee in bed. I’m not counting things I’ve eaten or drunk when I was ill, but just having breakfast in bed as a ‘treat’.
I agreed with the fellow who said that if you have to sit up you’re as well in a chair, and if you’re in a chair you may as well get up properly.
And, how do you avoid crumbs or spillages?

No breakfast in bed for me though unless I was poorly. Cuppa in bed yes. Sometimes my DH will bring me a cuppa if he’s woken up in the night which generally wakes me up and we will enjoy our drinks

I get up each morning and make a cup of tea and take it to bed.
Religiously.
I then try to wake up properly before going downstairs and starting the day.
I never have breakfast in bed.
Too much faffing about.

In fairness to my OH he has offered me this numerous times but I don’t want it as I don’t want crumbs in the bed and I’m more comfortable in a chair

Not for me! Never had breakfast in bed.....not my thing partly because I'm not keen on breakfast... and don't like lying in my bed far less sitting up and eating....lol

I’m not a fan of breakfast in bed . Whoever is up first makes a cup of tea and brings it upstairs, where we watch the news or catch up on emails .
I’m not a big breakfast person and an happy with a banana. Years of leaving home early for work . I can’t face breakfast at 6.30-7
But if I do have breakfast it’s at the table . Tbh meals in bed remind me of being I’ll

Ohhh ladies! Let your hair down a little. My bed is a cosy nest of clean-smelling sheets, a smattering of woofling hairs, quite a few biscuit crumbs, dashes of split coffee stains
a plus a few distinctly male public hairs!!! The bed sheets are changed every week. So no problems 😊

When I'm on my own, I eat breakfast at a table. When I'm with my partner we have breakfast in bed (we take turns to make it). I've never noticed crumbs in my bed.

We have a kettle in the bedroom and take tea things up every night. Mr Shanty usually makes the tea between 5 and 6 am depending on when our cat wakes us up, then he will bring me a cup of tea and a slice of toast about 8 after we've had a bit more sleep. I stopped worrying about crumbs a long time ago 😊

I sometimes have breakfast in bed, eg if I'm awake early and waiting for the heating to kick in.

My main memories of it are Mother's Days when the children would bring cornflakes drowning in milk, and tea made with tap water as they weren't allowed to boil the kettle grin. I had to polish it all off, as they'd sit with eager faces and watch. Happy memories🥰

That sounds fantastic to me Shantygirly! Life is too short to be a fusspot & worry about a few crumbs!
At one time we had the cat up in bed with us as well as the dog & the biscuits & our noisy children.
Wonderful 🙃

I’ve never had nor fancied eating in bed. With two cats and a dog in my bed it would be difficult.

Remember those teasmaid? 🤣did anyone have one?

We have breakfast in bed most days, coffee & toast
Taking turns to make it, put morning tv on and chill for an hour or so .. sometimes in the summer we sit on the patio but this time of the year it lovely and cosy in bed
Unless we’re going out early of course.

I have had breakfast in bed, but don't really get the point of it. I like to get up wash, dress, have breakfast and be ready to face whatever the day ahead is going to throw at me.

My cat & dog & children soon took to breakfast in my bed like ducks to water. 😙

My Hubby has brought me breakfast in bed for years every morning , a coffee and toast .
I do it for him if I get up before him but that doesn’t happen very often he’s an early riser

Mt61 - I’ve got one!! Nor really mine and I’ll re-tell the story, with apologies to the GN’s who’ve heard it before.

In 1976, I went down with a mystery illness. I was off work for months and lost 3 stones in weight. I was so ill, DH used to drive home at lunchtime to make me a drink - we’d tried a flask, but I wasn’t strong enough to get the lid off!
DH came up with the bright idea of asking his parents to lend us their Goblin Teasmaid. His Dad said ‘yes, of course’ but his (evil woman) Mum refused. So, when she died and we emptied out the house, I took the Teasmaid. I’ve never used it and it’s been up on a shelf in the garage for 25 years and when it occasionally catches my eye, I smile and say ‘well Aileen, who’s got your bloody Teasmaid now?’

Like many of you, my late DH used to bring me tea in bed but I’ve had to make it myself for the past nine years.

We never had breakfast in bed unless unwell, in fact I don’t eat breakfast except on very rare occasions and I wouldn’t enjoy eating in bed.

My husband has brought me a cup of tea in bed every morning for forty years. He also brings me surprise breakfast on a tray sometimes too. Usually boiled egg and soldiers, poached egg on toast or porridge with a heart shape of sugar on the top and fresh orange juice. In the summer he adds a small vase of his sweet peas or other pretty posy from the garden. He’s a big, chunky chap not given to emotion but I guess this shows his romantic side!

When late DH and I were first dating and lived in different countries we sometimes stayed at rather nice hotels and I loved breakfast in bed only to discover some years later that he actually much preferred to eat at the table! I used to enjoy it when he kindly brought me a cuppa so I could drink it in bed in the morning and I would do the same of he was home on a Friday ( he worked away during the week so if he did, very occasionally, get back home late on a Thursday night he would have a wee lie in when I went to work the next day. Nearly six years since he died and miss him so much.
