Well, that was a farce.........
I'm not a pheasant plucker....
Has anyone seen or read about Keir Starmer wanting the police to call on all the millions of people that signed the petition asking for another general election. I was watching catchup on You Tube this afternoon and a few of the social media stations were mentioning it.
What happened to free speech or is that no longer a thing in Great Britain.

...leave. You have commented on several threads and are welcome here.
Please just think about it.
This thread may have been seen as a bit silly by many - but it doesn’t mean you shouldn't stay.

Sadly no!

I agree NotSpaghetti No need to leave, all are welcome!
However, be prepared to be challenged and critiqued, it kind of goes with the territory
I've found there are a noticeable number of fake YouTube videos coming up on my feed at the moment. Yep - if only Starmer had just resigned for instance (as per a typical one of them that's come through recently). So if one "sounds too good to be true" then I take a sceptical view to start with and, if I'm hoping they're right = I'll check elsewhere. eg mainstream media (as bad and as biased as they are) will certainly put up something pretty fast if something as newsworthy as that comes up.
Makes a change from having to try to catch genuinely factual videos before they get censored off - for instance I've just watched a very genuine/very factual one about chemtrails. Intelligent/articulate woman who has been gathering all the evidence that it is happening over her own part of America - and then went onto give a talk to the United Nations about it. But I won't be surprised if it's censored off shortly - because I am SO used to that happening that I know I have to often watch one fast before it disappears.
But - yep....back to the "obvious fakes" and I've been wondering why there's been an outcrop of them in recent weeks and speculating as to whether it's Russian disinformation - instead of "our own" for once.
Perhaps the lesson is not to post unfounded and unreferenced social media claims without checking, and not to make contentious political remarks on the basis of those SM claims, Becuase they will always be checked and challenged.
We got into terrible deep water over the southport murders and riots when a poster published in here the actual original SM rumour about the perp. The thread was deleted by GN in the end as being dangerously speculative.
Unfortunately we live in a world full of false claims and conspiracy theories.
You said "I did NOT say I believed it, I asked if anyone had seen or read about it." and in your post and subsequent one the impression you gave was that you at least half believed it. That spread the suggestion that it was likely to be true
Enough people sharing fake news, even indirectly as "Have you heard . . " makes such a mass of mentions of it as "news" in the media and online that those who don't look for confirmation think "No smoke without fire" That is how the dirty tricks departments of other countries and parties use the media and particularly the internet and social media (think of X) for propaganda.
You also posted "Also people are being jailed for saying what they think and that is free speech being curtailed by the government." and by posting that without being flung in jail without a fair trial, you proved that it wasn't true. Everything anyone says on the internet can be (and often is) picked up and repeated by others, and can be misquoted or cleverly edited. Roaming AI bots could quote that as fake news about "oppression" and "false imprisonment" in the UK.
If you still believe that, at least make sure that the thing you are talking about is true, or you could find yourself on trial for slander or libel (with a fair trial to ascertain whether or not you were right in saying it. In this country, the judiciary are not subordinate to the whims of the current government - and they fight to remain so.)
And, Cossy it would not surprise me if some of the signatures were from Donald Duck and his friends.

Indeed! Our Police will be off to DisneyWorld to interview them!

What is “catchup on YouTube”. What were you catching up on OP?
When ‘they’ start censoring YouTube I’ll be worried. I like that you can get so many totally differing views on there. Extreme, moderate and just plain daft. Vivé la difference ,as they say !

That's exactly what I thought.
I have some YouTube subscriptions Delila I expect the OP does too.
Mine include @pastagrannies and @DimitrasDishes - both excellent in my opinion.

Unless people using YouTube post extremely dangerous things, both YouTube and Tik-Tok are unlikely to be censored.
I’ll be honest I view both these sites purely for entertainment value. I don’t view them as serious news nor educational sites.
Although, having said that, I do find some really useful stuff on YouTube, like how do I locate so and so on a machine or how to assemble or take apart something, so I really meant not serious news, as if I learned how to do something I guess that is educational!
Yes exactly Cossy - I recently found an excellent video about mounting a TV on a swivel stand which, had I seen it earlier, might have made my purchase of said stand somewhat simpler!
Also. I wouldn't have realised spanakopita was so easy if I hadn't seen a video on @DimitrasDishes
I think it can definitely be educational
It would cost thousands if not over a million in police wages to knock on every door- never heard of anything as daft. That would add to his black hole.
As for YouTube, I take it with a pinch of salt, (most of it, anyway)
If it was to be true what a tremendous waste of police time when they could be doing far more important jobs like catching criminals

No I haven't heard about this LadyInBlue but I wish I'd signed it now
.
Still can, it’s on until next year!

LadyInBlue there's no need to leav
You are joking right? Why wouldn’t anyone leave a site after the mean girl pile on they experience here?
It wasn’t necessary and would put anyone off this forum who are just lurking and reading.GN members claim to be kind and understanding…..yeah, right!
All it needed was ‘ fake news, I hadn’t heard about it but wouldn’t believe it’.

Exactly, and so many good things about it, the music and the ‘how to’ vids especially.

👏👏👏
Quite clearly we do not live in a police-state where government institutions exercise extreme levels of control over civil society and liberties (Wikipedia).
So if said government had instituted an exercise whereby the millions who'd signed the petition were to get a knock on the door from the local constabulary or one of the three special-forces, I'm pretty sure it would've been headline news.
Unless the current government had, overnight, used 'special powers' that only happen in, usually, times of war, then it must be obvious that signing a petition demanding another general election (or another referendum) is not a criminal offence.
So, yes, this is malicious gossip. And it's dangerous, as we've already seen with the previous riots which were, in effect, anti-asylum seeker, and anti-Muslim - because the perpetrator of that horrific crime was thought to belong to both groups. He was, in fact not an asylum-seeker and his religious background was Catholic.
Back in the day, Boris Johnson was, not infrequently, referred to as a Nazi - flippantly and casually. Much as I disliked the man, I think this was dangerous nonsense. As is referring to Starmer as a Führer and suggesting that it wouldn't be a surprise if we were to be forced to swear an oath of allegiance to him.
This is the kind of over-hyped rhetoric that the OP generates, and I, for one, make no apology for calling it out.
There is enough evidence-based material to use with which to criticise or condemn both the previous and current government without making stuff up - or promoting it on social-media which is inhabited by an awful lot of people, some of whom are less than stable. When the participants and judges of an entertainment programme, Strictly Come Dancing, allege that they've received death-threats (presumably for disqualifying the wrong candidate?), then you have to be aware of your wider 'audience' on social media and be responsible for the things you say.

YouTube is heavily censored.
I've lost count of just how often an obviously factual/researched video or the like has been censored off and whole channels shut down.
Sometimes it's a matter for debate just who does the most censoring - YouTube or Facebook - as they both make a regular habit of it. We all know that the most well-researched info. going can be put up there - with academics, doctors, etc giving the facts and it often mysteriously disappears.
