DH thinks I've lost the plot.

I went to our local M&S to buy stuff for Christmas and brought home a Cottage Pie for tonight's meal.

DH couldn't work out why I bought one while we have one in the freezer.

My view is that we still have one in the freezer for any eventuality.

Our menfolk can be wonderful
In crises they don’t fuss
But in matters culinary
They should defer to US

Yes of course you did, it’s called forward planning. If we get snowed in at least you know there’s plenty of food to keep you going. Men don’t think like us, it took me 66 years of marriage to realise that 🤔

Harris27 Wed 11-Dec-24 18:52:58

Definitely agree.😂

Luckygirl3 Wed 11-Dec-24 19:08:07

I do that all the time.

pascal30 Wed 11-Dec-24 19:09:04

But did you get any Christmas stuff...

GrannyGravy13 Wed 11-Dec-24 19:18:08

I could have written your OP kitty 🤣

But did you get any Christmas stuff...

Yep, boxes of biscuits for presents and gf mince pies.

ferry23 Wed 11-Dec-24 19:40:12

And....? Seems perfectly sensible to me

flappergirl Wed 11-Dec-24 19:44:18

So you did achieve your mission plus a bonus cottage pie. I've often called into our very large M&S for one particular item and come home with ten things I didn't need, minus the thing I did.

Because the one in the freezer wasn't defrosted!
Simplest!

Did you buy any Christmas cheeses?

Aveline Wed 11-Dec-24 20:08:42

M&S Cottage pie is delicious!

Doodledog Wed 11-Dec-24 20:57:42

Mine has been to Costco, and very kindly brought back a huge pack - five (5!!) - trays of pigs in blankets, which I have already ordered from Donald Russell for the one meat eater other than me who will be here at Christmas. He also brought back industrial quantities of mince pies, when there are several dozen of them in the freezer/kitchen.

He means well so it's hard to get cross, but what am I going to do with a million pigs in blankets when I usually cook veggie food and there will be only two meat eaters in residence on Christmas day?

Allira Wed 11-Dec-24 21:01:20

The mince pies will all need testing.

Not sure about all the pigs in blankets 😁

Allira Wed 11-Dec-24 21:02:41

Do you have a community fridge Doodledog? They take fresh food, unlike food banks.

V3ra Wed 11-Dec-24 21:09:31

Many years ago my Dad called in one day to see his mum, my Granny.
He found her baking cakes in the kitchen 😋
She didn't offer him one though, as they were all for the freezer 🤨
He found that odd 😁

No, but we have freezers grin

I won't waste anything, but it is so much easier when people don't try to be helpful without asking what would actually help!

grumppa Wed 11-Dec-24 21:37:28

Surely, kittylester, you put the newly bought cottage pie in the freezer and ate the suitably defrosted frozen one?

I saw someone had made pigs-in-blankets-in-the-hole the other day - we could think up new recipes to use them up 😁

That's men's logic, that is.
The other one wouldn't have defrosted in time!

dragonfly46 Wed 11-Dec-24 22:32:56

My DH wouldn’t know I already had one in the freezer!

Allira Wed 11-Dec-24 22:43:58

Mine would just eat it, no questions asked!

theworriedwell Wed 11-Dec-24 22:50:26

My husband just wouldn't eat it. He's a fussy bugger and doesn't like cottage pie. I quite fancy a M&S cottage pie.

Mine prefers the one I make (so do I) but sometimes there's just not enough time.
The Gastropub ones are good. Decant it into one of your own dishes 😀

Allira Wed 11-Dec-24 22:55:22

and doesn't like cottage pie.

Oh, none of them!
Sorry.
