Good morning from a dry Bristol. We are only 9 days away from the winter solstice; lighter mornings are coming nearer…
MD, I hope you feel better/calmer today; Ash, may the pain subside and your mobility increase;*Taichinan”, I hope your improved hearing carries on and you have the hearing of a 6 year old!
Yesterday was a real scramble. Not only had the venue been changed for theFAB cafe, but the church was full of excited little girls, their orchestra was practising for their Carol concert last night.
No morning prayers, just trying to figure out how best to accommodate myself into the second choice room. No water easily accessible, no china, kettle, nothing; it was a real battle to get everything ready. It took me a few apologetic journeys through the church after which I had to be inventive!
The AgeUK rep said it was “a lovely venue and could we use that room again”. It was met with an emphatic NO from me - setting up had taken me 90 minutes. I didn’t want a repeat every week!
I went to the next village in the afternoon to my library book group. Only two of us out of 5 had finished the book or read more than about 30 pages. The meeting was short!
Today, I have my tai chi class and shall spend the rest of the day doing my cards and decorating the mini gingerbread houses.
Love to those struggling. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning Mick, it’s cold and dry here at the moment in south Glos, yesterday was so chilly.
I struggled with walking the dog, very pufffed, I’m really not sure what’s going on! The consultant said earlier this year that I need to be fitter but I walk 3-4 miles a day with the dog, do all my own housework and gardening and usually manage 10,000 steps a day 🙄
Anyway, today I will be out early with the dog, I have a telephone medication review sometime this morning, a piece of furniture being delivered this afternoon plus a second dog walk.
DH has man-flu, he’s coughing, sneezing and spluttering everywhere so I guess I will get it too 😡
I have started the border on my big granny square, I will get that finished today 👏
Have a lovely day everyone if you can 🌹

karmalady Thu 12-Dec-24 06:13:24

Good morning from s somerset, dull dry and cold, same as yesterday, the day before and tomorrow

I stood on my rake, it smashed my shed window, I have to fix that, ordered the perspex and in the meantime stapled clear thick plastic over. Oh well, just something to do and learn from

More plot stuff today, needing to fix a leaky water butt, saw wood, prep an area for permanent shrubs for my windbreak and for insects and butterlies, A delivery is expected, I have to sign for it at home so will be ruled by the clock but certainly not staying in all day. Properly warmly dressed and out is what I want

I found my thermal compression gloves, slept with them on and they certainly helped with finger aches. I need to get petrol, a drive of several miles but the longer run will be good for my car. It needs a wash but I need the oomph to do that, maybe tomorrow

Have a good day

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is still dark but it looks ‘dank’ out there. Yesterday’s session of the writer’s group was very Christmas-centric and we had a good laugh. That was our last session for this year. I had a card through the door last night but I have no idea who it is from - don’t recognise the names - but it has my name on it so they must know me!
Walking group this morning and call in at DDs for lunch where we will sort out arrangements for a ‘last fling’ Christmas shopping trip tomorrow.
Have the best day you can folks.

Bellasnana Thu 12-Dec-24 06:35:33

Good morning from Malta where we expect a high of 18°C and a low of 14°C. It feels chilly though. It’s unusual to have central heating here so the houses do feel colder indoors than out sometimes.

Had a visit from the boys yesterday both good as gold. They have their Christmas concert today which I’m delighted to be attending. I shall probably cry.🥲

Re yesterday’s thread mentioning putting air in your tyres, we still have petrol pump attendants here who will also pump up your tyres and check your oil . I have not filled my own petrol tank since I lived in the UK over forty years ago.

grandMattie that sounded very inconvenient and thoughtless of whoever decided to put you in a room with no facilities. You’re a real trooper to have got it all organised but isn’t there anyone who could assist you? I would if I lived nearer!

karma thank goodness the rake hit the window rather than your face, still a nuisance though.

Must get going, I took half a tranquilliser last night and feel a bit woozy.

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Kalu Thu 12-Dec-24 06:36:31

Good morning all. Another very cold -3deg in Glasgow this morning. 🥶

I’m not the best of company at present. Still dealing with admin and the insufferable pain from neck to heel. The brain fog caused by my pain relief meds isn’t helping matters either when I need to have a clear head for decision making. This too shall pass, I tell myself often.

My best wishes to all for a pleasant day especially to those living with struggles and worries.

Susan56 Thu 12-Dec-24 06:40:38

Good morning from Shropshire where another dull day is forecast.

Yesterday went to plan which is a first for some time!We bought a new kettle and toaster from The Range then collected the children from school.Upset children when we got back to their house as the beautiful tree in the garden which had become unstable in the gales was being cut down.It was a lovely tree with a bench round it where all photos of significant occasions have been taken since DD and SIL’s wedding ten years ago.

Today we are going to visit mum.We are going early in the hope she will be better in the morning. We will take her to the midweek communion service then sort her room as every week things are missing and she has other people’s things🤦🏼‍♀️it is all taking some getting used to.Afterwards we will go out for lunch and finally meeting DD and the children for a ride on. Christmas train🎅🏼

Thinking of our absent good morning friends and all with mountains to climb.

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

Bellasnana, I forgot to mention how much I like your nails. I have particularly ugly hands and fragile, short nails and am very envious!
Yes, there are “helpers” but they arrive 5 minutes before the start, when all the preparations are done.
As for the change of rooms, I knew it would happen but was expecting a more suitable room in the church, not in the adjacent church hall.

grandMattie Thu 12-Dec-24 06:58:12

🌺🌺🌺 kalu.

DanniRae Thu 12-Dec-24 07:04:13

Kalu......Some flowers for you x

kittylester Thu 12-Dec-24 07:10:03

Good morning all from a chilly North Leicestershire.

We are expecting a Sainsbury's delivery between 9 and 10. A shock to the system as we usually have it at 5pm. My choir is singing at Waitrose this evening so we had to change.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Jaxjacky Thu 12-Dec-24 07:16:02

Morning, 3 cold and I’m expecting cloud and grey today.
The carpenter yesterday did a good job boxing in some pipes but was in and out for cutting, it was cold.
Today is stretch class then at last my ear clear out. MrJ will get the tree in and the lights on while I’m out, later he’ll paint my fingernails in glittery red. They won’t be nearly as lovely as yours bella
gMattie you have a lot of patience and perseverance.
Oh kalu I can’t imagine🌹

Good morning from Lancashire. It’s still dark and the central heating has just come on so should be nice and warm by the time I get up. I am still feeling the after effects of Covid but am on the mend after what has been a horrible experience. Have a good day all. 🌹

loopyloo Thu 12-Dec-24 07:25:36

GM! Your nails take a bashing because you do so much work.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 12-Dec-24 07:27:31

Good morning everyone.

Yesterdays Christmas lunch was very good, an amazing Roast far too much for most of us to eat so a lot of wasted food, someone nabbed the left over meat for their dog, this was presented in a large foil Swan shaped package, a nice touch.
I wore some summer shoes to accommodate my toe, I didn’t think anyone would notice but the other Women did!
After every course the men moved around one chair so we ‘ladies’ had someone different to talk too, a very good idea as I only knew 2 other people.
Christmas decs go up today, the window cleaner is due this morning and a shopping delivery at lunch time.
Apart from that I can put my feet up and read a book.

Hope everyone has a good day, hugs for those who are unwell. It would be nice to see the sun, but I don’t hold out much hope, the Easterly winds are a bit chilly.

Jaxjacky Thu 12-Dec-24 07:29:22

Good to see you Blossoming I’m sorry to hear you’ve been so rough.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 12-Dec-24 07:29:27

Good morning all from south Manchester where it’s dark (natch) but dry with no fog or frost. I can’t ask Alexa what the temperature is as Himself is still snoozing beside me. I’ve had to make my own mug of Yorkshire Gold.

No real plans. Himself put up the twig tree in the hall, the coloured large pear shaped Christmas lights on the balcony and the bells with tartan ribbons in the main room while I was out having coffee with a friend. A nice surprise to come home to - not only that we now look festive but the pleasure in knowing he’s got the energy these days to do this. Boy did I used to take any such activity for granted. No more.

Hey Marydoll look what I bought yesterday in Thorntons! Yes - they’ve started stocking my stepfather’s favourites so I had to buy him some. He’ll be delighted!

GrannyIvy Thu 12-Dec-24 07:32:18

Good morning from a still dark Cambridgeshire.
Today I am off to Milton Keynes Christmas shopping with my DD2. She is still badly bruised from her accident last week so it will a gentle walk around and not an all day marathon shop!! I have bought a new shopping trolley to assist so we don’t have to carry anything heavy😂. I am looking forward to a lunch out and time together.

I continue to be amazed by Karma and GM Take care both of you x

Thinking of those struggling and sending my best wishes. I do hope everyone will have the best day possible 💐

Bellasnana Thu 12-Dec-24 07:33:08

grandMattie your hands are a lot more useful than mine.🤗

I had awful nails whilst bringing up four children and helping my late DH run our busy restaurant, so now having them done is a luxury I allow myself once a month.

Jax I’m sure yours will look lovely and having Mr J do them for you is a bonus.😊

Thanks to all for the kind comments.

Redcar Thu 12-Dec-24 07:33:40

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, it’s getting light but I think another dull day is forecast, although slightly less cold. DD2 came with me for a walk yesterday, I managed to go a bit further, which was encouraging. By the evening my legs had stopped aching!
Lots of present deliveries yesterday and wrapped a few of them. The 9 year old helped when she came home from school.
DD1 is working from home today so I doubt I’ll get out today because she’s always so busy.
susan I remember when my mum was in a care home lots of her nice clothes disappeared despite being labelled. When my MiL was in a home they were a bit more careful to ensure she had her own things. I hope you can get it sorted out, it’s a distressing situation.
kalu I hope your pain eases soon and the brain fog clears.
Have the best day possible everyone.

Ashcombe Thu 12-Dec-24 07:38:32

Good morning on yet another windy one in Torbay.

Cocodomol for the hip pain is making me very sleepy so I’ve decided to only take it at night (hence being late on parade!) and manage with paracetamol during the day.

I can just picture that lovely tree, Susan56 and can well imagine the distress of the children on seeing it being removed.

What impressive energy levels many of you have especially grandMattie and karmalady! My heart goes out to you, Kalu, having so much with which to cope. I hope the virtual support on here helps in some way.

I messaged two of my fellow players last night and they seem to be having a good run with The Wind in the Willows but are missing me as much as I miss them. But I know I wouldn’t have managed the show. ☹️

Have a good day, everyone! 🦩🥰🎄💐🦩

cornergran Thu 12-Dec-24 07:43:38

Morning Mick, morning All. Haven’t looked out yet, we’re forecast a repeat of yesterday, grey and sometimes drizzly.

Thoroughly enjoyable Christmas lunch with our friends yesterday, a wander round a shop to settle it afterwards. They’re off home later, it will be very quiet here other than the noise of the washing machine and vacuum cleaner. Not the same at all.

Pleased you’re on the mend blossoming. Difficult times kalu flowers. Your community is very fortunate to have you grandmattie.

Must move and get my kitchen head on. Breakfast to cook. Can’t recall the last time I produced one. I’m so out of practice with this hostessing lark.

Thinking of all with personal mountains to climb. Have the best day you can everyone.

brook2704 Thu 12-Dec-24 07:44:36

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s another cold frosty start to the day
All that walking certainly sounds very active and fit rosesandlilac if you’re struggling with walking it’s probably worth mentioning at the meds review
I’ve a couple of things to drop off at the post office and some food shopping to do today. Hopefully we’ll fit a walk in somewhere too.
Kalu 💐
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
