How are you making out with the snowstorm?

I logged on today expecting a thread about the snowstorm, but didn't see one.

How are you all making out? Stuck at home for a few days, or do you have to go out?

It's a balmy 5 degrees celcius here on BC's north coast. We had a tiny bit of snow a few days ago, but it's all melted now.

Hi CanadianGran Our Canadian DiL lives near us in Surrey. This time last year she visited her parents in Calgary, Alberta as a polar vortex moved in, creating a wind chill of -50. A warning went out that exposed skin would get frostbitten in five minutes. I think she's well prepared for the worst we're likely to get!smile

East coast NO snow miserable, grey, windy, wet but nothing different to normal

Calendargirl Mon 06-Jan-25 06:55:50

Just rain here.

NannyJan53 Mon 06-Jan-25 08:42:32

A light covering of snow here yesterday in the West Mids. By afternoon, almost all gone. This morning a dusting, and it is now raining.

A few centimetres of snow, soon melted by the rain. We are on flood alert rather than snow alert at the moment. The stream going through our village is overflowing its banks - again.

However family in York had sufficient snow to build a snowman.

15cm+ of snow here in the North Pennines yesterday and still doing it this morning. There was a little traffic moving through our village yesterday, but not much. The snowplough has been up our road this morning but that's not a lot of help - it's left ridges of snow at the end of the drive and we still have to dig out the longish drive if we want to get the car out.

So I think we'll feed the birds and stay put!

Still pretty bad here in Yorkshire!

Tricky driving but most main roads are clear and hopefully will be better tomorrow.

We had a covering of about three inches yesterday in South Yorkshire and in the evening it was raining so hopes were high it would all go away. But, this morning it was snowing again and obviously had been most of the night, so we are back to square one🙄. Another day indoors.

Different bit of England's biggest county keepingquiet. It's melting here.

Allira Mon 06-Jan-25 09:59:26

It's all melted here, and it's sunny but chilly.

No snow here on the SE coast. Miserable and wet for the last couple of days but blue skies and sunshine right now.

I haven't been out so I don't know what it's like outside but my heating went off at 7.30 this morning and I'm still warm so I'm guessing the temperature has risen overnight.

Nessieguru Mon 06-Jan-25 10:19:03

I'm just getting ready to dig my car out and get my path cleared. Thankfully grit bin at top of street. I live in a village in Lanarkshire and we're used to it.

JamesandJon33 Mon 06-Jan-25 10:50:17

We were promised snow but nothing. Then fog and gloom and now heavy rain.

MaizieD Mon 06-Jan-25 10:57:22

We had about 6" snow by yesterday morning here in Co. Durham but the temperature rose and it rained on and off all day. This morning we have slush and still quite deep snow in places. There's a cold wind and the rest of the week is forecast to be very cold, so I forecast lots of ice around where the snow has been trodden down and only partly melted.

Be careful out there, folks...

David49 Mon 06-Jan-25 11:35:56

Here we had very little snow on Sunday but last night heavy sleet and rain, so it’s sodden and the river has flooded the meadows again.
Serious damage unlikely but several roads flooded.

BigBertha1 Mon 06-Jan-25 11:43:58

Second day of rain and snow. Unfortunately all road into this East Midlands town are flooded. The town parks are flooded which has not happened in recent memory and its all very worrying. The new build housing (I live in one) is being blamed for increasing the volume of water in the drains also the lack of river maintenance. Bit grim here todays. I'm indoors but being useful/creative working on my magnum opus.

Not much snow here, but our brook has flooded due to snow-melt on the Welsh hills (a few miles away). We've lived here for 20 years but this is the first time we've seen the brook water rushing along topped by clumps of ice. Nature never fails to come up with something I've never seen before.

No snow here in the dreich south. Since I had to de-ice the car last Thursday, there's been early morning frost, but apart from a few desultory flakes, the snow pushed off northwards. The forecast for this week is cold, but the threat of snow seems to have diminished.

womblekelly Mon 06-Jan-25 12:36:51

Lots of snow here near Leeds Bradford Airport, just been out in the car to take all the stuff I'd decluttered yesterday to the recycle centre and main roads fairly clear but v glad I have winter tyres as makes a big difference. Keeping warm by clearing the snow off the drive!

SillyNanny321 Mon 06-Jan-25 12:52:54

Tiniest covering of snow here in East Anglia! Mainly dismal, grey, chilly & raining almost non stop. Think the sun is on holiday do not like this time of year! Roll on Spring!

wibblywobblywobblebottom Mon 06-Jan-25 12:54:34

Haven't had any snow in my neck of the woods.

suelld Mon 06-Jan-25 13:13:00

Not a single flake here in west wales… just RAIN as per usual!

Milest0ne Mon 06-Jan-25 13:19:39

Lots of deep snow here. The sky is brighter. I managed to change a hospital appt from today as I would not have been able to get there. It has been re arranged for Wednesday so I hope I can get up my drive then. We are taking a change of clothes with us as O H has an appt on Friday, so we may have to stay in a hotel. Packing the car for an expedition. Salt/ sand. Blanket. Flask , snacks

Whereabouts are you?

Spec1alk Mon 06-Jan-25 13:28:16

North Wales. Snow came and stuck. Tried to get the car out this morning- failed miserably! We live at the bottom of a cul de sac and my car couldn’t grip going up. Back onto the drive- a bit tricky! I’ll try again tomorrow. Hopefully we will get rain and it will all wash away. Frustratingly the main roads are fine!!!
