How are you making out with the snowstorm?

I logged on today expecting a thread about the snowstorm, but didn't see one.

How are you all making out? Stuck at home for a few days, or do you have to go out?

It's a balmy 5 degrees celcius here on BC's north coast. We had a tiny bit of snow a few days ago, but it's all melted now.

Harrogate here. Schools have been closed due to snow and ice, all pavements near me are covered in ice from the compacted snow, but most roads are cleared. Minus 7 last night, sunny now. Hopefully I get a food delivery today.

About 2 inches of snow near me on my steep hill in Brighton..

Loads of my neighbours and their small children were out on the street making snowmen and having snowball fights..It was rather wonderful.. cars didn't risk it..

Minus 6 here, Midlothian/Scottish Borders but the weather forecast suggested minus 15 tonight. The heating is on and the meter must be spinning 🥴

-6° in Lancashire. Our dog wanted to go out and run round at this time of night for a toilet break.
The heating isn’t on overnight, but it still feels warm in the house-at least compared with outside!

-2 in the South East right now, not sure how low it went in the night. Looks like it has snowed outside but is just a hard frost covering everywhere.

-1 in Brighton.. but blue skies

-3 here still over in Merseyside with very little snow now, but more worried about the ice and slippyness than anything!

Lots of solid snow in pavements here in w/York's no gritting anywhere where we are. All junior schools are shut headaches day it's for safety of children having to walk in road !!

That's where I am too. But no heating on here.

Ah but MissInterpreted I had a hip replacement operation on Hogmany so my bedsitting room needs to be warm. It's my hospital at home

Normally I would be out and about.

Oh, I appreciate that everyone's circumstances are different. As I said on another thread, I think we've just become accustomed to our house being cold, so we don't feel it as much now. It's currently 13C - just checked.

I’m getting a bit stir crazy now (West Yorks). It’s very cold, but I don’t mind that - normally I’d just wrap up warm and get out there. It’s the walking conditions that just aren’t improving. The roads are clear, the pavements are deadly with high, uneven solid snow and ice and stretches of black ice where the snow’s been cleared by householders. I’m used to going for long walks, but I’m getting very little outdoor exercise when the only option is walk on the busy roads (not safe for the pedestrian and not fair on the drivers).

AGAA4 Fri 10-Jan-25 15:28:57

There is solid ice around where I live and a lot of snow. I have arthritis in both hips so I'm very wary of going out and I'm missing my daily walk.

The road has been gritted but is down to one lane and no pavements here so it would not be safe to walk on the road.

Do you wear your outdoor clothes indoors MissInterpreted?
I often do and my thermostat is set at 18°. 😀

-10.8 on our thermometer last night, but a lovely sunny day, not surprisingly, so it'll probably be pretty cold again tonight. Some fresh snow so it was good to walk on this morning.

M0nica Sat 11-Jan-25 18:58:45

-6 last night, and it has not gone above freezing all day. To add to that we have freezing mist. Visibility varies from only a couple of hundred yards to twice that, but because the mist lies so gently, it is often difficult to work out where visibility does end unless there is someone in front of you.

We were out and in as briefly as possible this morning and have spent the rest of the day hunkering down inside.

No snow here but Loch Long is frozen over ,that’s quite unusual as it’s a sea loch so salt water.Its. been decades since my local loch Loch Lomond froze and we walked across it but it’s a fresh water inland loch
