Good Morning Everyone,
Its a dark start but a dry one but feels cold here in brackley .
Weather wise , locally very little in the way of snow settling locally , but at some point it will hit the area with a large amount .
The lamb curry is going well , the extra bite with the scotch bonnets ideal for this chilly winter .
My usual routine bus trip and hopefully see friend's.
Health front OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning from Bristol. It’s snowing - it wasn’t expected, but is falling gently and is very still. I don’t think it will settle nor snow for very long.
I had a rather frustrating afternoon. I went into town to get myself a new radio and some fabric to make a new patchwork. The solitary fabric shop was still full of Christmas stuff and then more of your fancy dress/costume fabrics. I came home empty handed. A completely wasted journey.
Nothing happening today, an empty.
I hope Ash and her DH arrived safely in Sartre. Hugs to to the poorly,

Good morning from Lancashire. Still very cold but most of the snow has melted. The schools were closed yesterday, no idea why as most of the children live nearby. When did people become so soft?
Up early as usual and struggling to get warm, but better than lying in bed watching the minutes tick by.

Good morning from cold windy s somerset, it will be sunny all day

It has been raining all night and very windy and the sun will be very welcome today. I am going for a local exercise walk mid-morning and am expecting my organic delivery later

I will be making a large batch -bake later, main ingredients leeks, beans, cheddar and I will get 8 meals out of it. I do like to have these meals available in the freezer

I have visitors tomorrow, unless it becomes dangerous with snow and/or ice. I am only going to have soup and fresh part-baked bread for lunch as it won`t be wasted if they cannot come but I do need to give downstairs a tidy today

Have a good day

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 0° and dry. I can't see frost on the cars. We had none of the snow for which I'm very grateful. I don't like driving in snow. GrandMattie how annoying for you.
Yesterday was a strange one. After six years, the pattern has changed to drop off. I tidied the dining room, the boys' room and my bedroom, superficially at least. I couldn't settle to anything. Once I'm in the new routine, I expect it will be better. Both boys had good days.
Today is a repeat of yesterday. I might start a cross stitch. I will nip to Aldi for Weetabix. Both boys have said they would like some for a snack when they get in from school/nursery. Have a good day all.

Good morning all from a rather damp North Wales- not a drop of the white stuff left although the mountains still have their tops dusted 🏔️

A trot for coffee at a friend’s and I’ll scan a knitting pattern while I’m there before running a few errands in Llandudno, that is the sum of my activity today - riveting eh!

I will pop in later with champagne 🥂 for all celebrations- methinks Ive missed a few birthdays and anniversaries as I dip in and out of this lovely thread x

Good morning from Malta where we expect a high of 20°C and a low of 10°C today with a bit of a breeze.

Had a very satisfying day yesterday. Took my car for its MOT, no appointment but there wasn’t a queue so it was all done in fifteen minutes. I then went to pay the tax and insurance (ouch) so that’s done for another year.

I was about to go into the supermarket when DD3 called to say she was just parking and had seen my car. What a happy coincidence! We took a while to go round the store together, so much more enjoyable than traipsing round solo.

Had a message from DD1 showing thick snow on the road on her drive to work. It looked frightening and I was surprised as the US is usually very swift in bringing out the snow ploughs.

Today I have a much needed colour, cut and blow dry so will enjoy a bit of pampering.

Grandmabatty our boys love Weetabix too. Their breakfast is that or porridge on alternate days. Littlest always objects when it’s porridge day but eats it anyway. DD3 was a fussy eater so she’s making sure they don’t follow suit!😄

Wishing a good day to all.☀️

Good morning from the east coast of Fife where the weather has settled a little. The forecast says dry with sunshine here’s hoping the snow stays off. I did a very silly thing, I put the heating on during the night thinking it was going to be very cold and I’ve wakened up with a dry throat and a bit of the sneezles.
I had the most wonderful day yesterday, my new carer (who’s very nice) took me out in her car to get my reading glasses fixed free of charge at specsavers and we had time to take the Christmas decorations down including the tree. They’re all going in the cupboard for next year it was too difficult for her to bring the ramsay ladder down so they could go in the loft, these youngsters have no real stamina these days I remember how I managed it in pre stroke hey ho it’s what it is. Today I’m resting up in front of the tv looking for the films which won the BAFTA awards they should be good.

Have a good day my friends be safe and be kind it costs you nothing 💖

Good morning all from a chilly and damp North Leicestershire.

We've had an eventful night! The emergency alert on my phone went off around midnight. Our village often has problems with flooding but it is much worse this time. A caravan park on the banks of the river has been evacuated and all roads out of the village are flooded.

Even more exciting, DD2 had a police chase in the roads behind their house which culminated in the driver hitting a tree stump, climbing over their back fence and onto other gardens in the road.

I think we all need a quiet day today.

Kalu Tue 07-Jan-25 07:13:30

Good morning all -1deg in Glasgow the promised sunshine won’t be here today, light rain, mostly calm with some gusty winds of 10mph.

Despite taking a sleeping tablet last night, I haven’t slept a wink. Oh well. It will take time to clear my system of the dreaded chemical mix, aka, pain relief meds. On the plus point, my BP has settled to much less worrying high readings. Fingers crossed less BP meds too Nothing for it but to go with the flow until I get back on an even keel. A few caffeines until lunch time is my plan, trusting this will result in awake today and ready for sleep at bedtime. 🤞

Being wide awake I did some vacuuming, ditto ironing, long FaceTime chat with DD2 who is thankfully on the mend and also a long email catch up with a dear friend.

It is now breakfast time. Double espresso first before a healthy mix smoothie. I bought a ninja blender to include these smoothies as part of breakfast.

Hoping you have safely arrived in la belle France Ash &Od
Big changes to your childcare routine now doing drop offs Grandmabatty make the most of your free time until pick ups.
Hope your back problem eases a bit today Greyduster such drawbacks are guaranteed to make for low moods. Look after yourself.
Sounds like you are making very good progress Grammaretto 🤞for continued progress.
A warm welcome K26.

Best wishes to all for a good day especially for those with worrying times to bear.

Morning Mick, morning All from a cold corner of Somerset. I think the spots on the window are rain rather than snow or sleet.

Blood letting finally accomplished yesterday, 5 phials off to be tested for things I’ve never heard of, some genetic. I’m resisting Google, the follow up appointment at the end of February will explain all.

A meeting to attend this morning about development finances and plans for the next year. Suspect a few angry and loud souls will hold the stage. Groceries arriving this afternoon. Otherwise a resting day as I feel constantly exhausted at the moment.

Stay warm and dry everyone, have the best day you can.

ginny Tue 07-Jan-25 07:23:33

Good morning from a very dark and chilly N.Bucks.
We shall be dropping my car off for MOT and service at 8 and then on to a hospital appointment for me. Just a diabetic eye examination so hopefully shan’t be too long.
Afterwards we shall go into town to buy bits and pieces for our holiday next month.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way ,

Good morning from a clear-skied bracing Cornwall. Sun coming later. Had a lovely time yesterday with my friend of 66 years. We started school together, aged five, at a big house up the road from here, run by two spinster ladies, when we were five. We've always been good at giggling together.

Today a plumber is coming to service my gas boiler and my landlord has instructed him to install a new kitchen mixer tap at my request. Yippee. I'll be continuing with my denim patchwork jacket while he does that. It's pinned on the mannequin and tacking is the next stage.

Greyduster Tue 07-Jan-25 07:27:50

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. We are still in the icy grip here in South Yorkshire. We had a good thaw going on yesterday and now there is a hard glittering frost, it’s like a skating rink and it is not destined to reach more than three degrees all day. I gave my kitchen a good clean yesterday and felt better for it but I am dying to get outside. I’ll just have to be patient I suppose. I have a phone chat scheduled with my Geordie friend of long standing in York later today. That should see a couple of hours off!😁
Have the best day you can folks.

madeleine45 Tue 07-Jan-25 07:28:29

Good morning Mick and all GN.s .
It is very dark outside, cant yet see even the outline of the tree, so only know by lack of sound that at least it is not raining or snowing right now However there is already enough problems from yesterday. The A66 is closed in both directions, York has flooding and there are floods all round with closed bridges over different roads including the A684 near here. If people do not have to go out they would be well advised to stay indoors and not risk problems and having to be rescued.

Unfortunately , I will have to go out this am. Yesterday I went out to get some essentials and parked in the disabled bay with my badge. I had a doctors appointment to see them at 3.20pm to check out my leg for cellulitis. Leg looks swollen, red and itchy. Trying to keep it rested and do all I can to avoid making things worse. Came from the bread shop to find that an idiot had parked across the back of me in the disabled bay. Not enough room to get out, No one in the car, no one around, no note on the car. I hobbled into a couple of shops to see if the driver was there. No. Had no option than to just sit there until HE arrived. I was extremely angry and told him that a) he had no right to be there, b) that he had made me late for an important doctors appointment, c) he did not have a disabled badge
He said that "He had only been a couple of minutes " I was able to point out that to my knowledge he had been over 10 minutes. that I had his details and would be following up and to move immediately. Drove to Doctors , but had missed my time, and no further space available that day. I explained and asked if I might sit there and wait however long, but no space at all. They know me well and that I have never not arrived for my appointments without contacting them. As a hospital car volunteer, i am very aware of how precious appointments are and would never waste one for anyone. Not only that but that was a wasted appointment too that someone else could have had. So have had to arrange to go back this evening at 6pm and wait for someone to have the chance to look at it. I had this cellulitis for the first time some months ago, had never heard of it and did not know what it was. I ended up having to have 16 days of intravenous injections etc etc. and it could have been worse if I had not gone when I did. I wss told that once you have had it you are more likely for it to reoccur As a type 2 diabetic I need to take care and check things out more quickly than before. So my main point is for someone to look and see if it is that, and take urgent action, or hopefully it is not and just needs antibiotics or something. Not holding my breath as looking now it is more swollen, red and is quite itchy too.. So I shall stay at home as long as possible today, and then drive with caution to be at the surgery by 1730 to make sure that I get there . Will take my book and at least can wait in the warm. So not a very happy bunny at this time. I shall be carrying on the sorting of the mess here. It is very tiring work, and doing things like this on your own is very wearying and boring. Still needs doing and every little triumph helps. so yesterday the great wins were,
1. favourite vegetable knife found 2. every day crockery found and washed and returned to the shelves clean and available to use. 3. I now have a choice of good cups to have my morning coffee. Just coming up to Bach before 7 time and I shall take a few deep breaths , and sit with eyes closed , listening to J S Bach with coffee in hand. So fingers crossed that will be the sign of improvement and I will be able to pronounce the kitchen back to normal and available to use without endless frustrated looking for my favourite crockery!! When there is so little to see that looks sorted, it is a pleasure to be able to look at things on the right shelf etc. Dont feel up to baking at all today, as back is bad as well so far, so it will be more general sorting things out and put back to their original places Putting more things back where they belong, but also having some sitting times as well will mean that I can look round and see things where they should be . so it will be a mix of doing some jobs, checking out what if anything needs throwing out, trying on some skirts and tops and ending up with two bags to go. One clean and decent looking things to the charity shop. the other is destined for the tip or to put in material bag for someone to enjoy.. . well we shall sea . I have a pieee of duck, bought from the reduced shelf for my dinner and plan to have peas and cauliflower Fingers crossed that every one stays dry and warm and a chieves someone goalt o sort it out.small glass of wine.So , if I manage to find my glasses and get all the things in the church organised and all the cutlery drawn and ready for use I shall be happy and have been able to buy a couple of word search books for reduced price. they are not dated and so are good litle presents if I need a book with me. Will be glad to hear the news from everyone and what they are doing
Best Wishes and stay dry and safe Hope you all have a good day today, see you soon

Good morning from Durham. The forecast says cold with a bit of morning sun - I’m not holding my breath.

My lovely friend who is unwell and waiting for yet more tests before a diagnosis has asked me to visit her this morning, as she has an ulcer on her foot and is unable to wear shoes, so can’t make our usual venue.
I need to put some brake fluid in my car before I leave home and I’ll pop into my garage and book it in for a service and MOT.

Got one job off my to-do list yesterday, doing another today.

Best wishes to all. X

Redcar Tue 07-Jan-25 07:35:28

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, it’s getting light, with a clear sky. I had problems closing the porch door after I’d got the milk in, sprayed the runner with WD40 and it’s sliding nicely now. I guess the windscreen de-icer would do the job too. I’ll have to try to dry the runners later, they were obviously frozen.
DD2 worked here yesterday, it was good to have company and she did a few minor jobs for me while she was here. I feel bad that DD1 needs childcare help next week but I’m not yet strong enough to do the school runs for her.
kitty emergency alarms going off at midnight must have been scary, and I’d have been terrified at a police chase anywhere near my house!
grandmabatty a new routine for you, with the boys growing up!
I’ll visit my friend with dementia this afternoon, she’s only a few houses from me, but otherwise a nothing sort of day.
Keep warm everyone. Have the best day possible.

brook2704 Tue 07-Jan-25 07:39:39

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s really cold and icy with snow on the ground.
I’ve got a dentist check up today so whilst I’m in town I’ll have a quick browse in the shopping centre and a trip to M&S food
Hope things settle back into a better routine soon Kalu and you sleep tonight
Take care all if out and about in the icy weather
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

GrannyGravy13 Tue 07-Jan-25 07:45:00

Good morning from a bright 1 degree W Kent. U3A group yesterday afternoon was packed out, held in a local pub so perhaps not surprising.
Today just at home pottering around and plenty of washing to get done.
Best wishes to all

Good morning from Lancashire. Still very cold but most of the snow has melted. The schools were closed yesterday, no idea why as most of the children live nearby. When did people become so soft?
Up early as usual and struggling to get warm, but better than lying in bed watching the minutes tick by.

My friend and I were the only teachers in our school, who lived locally.

One snowy day, my colleague and, I, with the help of a couple of support assistants, had to manage to cope with nearly two hundred children in the assembly hall.
None of the staff could get to school. Nothing to do with being soft, but with maintining safe levels of staffing. That happened a few times.

RosesandLilac Tue 07-Jan-25 07:51:23

Good morning from a very snowy hillside in south Glos where it’s bitty cold and effectively cut off because all the roads are blocked by cars that have slid or crashed 🤷🏼‍♀️
There’s about 3” so far with more forecast for this morning.
Luckily I don’t have to go out so apart from walking dog that’s all that’s actually planned for today. Hopefully the snow won’t last long.
Take care everyone 🌹

Grammaretto Tue 07-Jan-25 07:53:37

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's dark -1°C. The snow has frozen.
My df will visit this morning. It's cosy here but I am beginning to get bored.

A health visitor is coming to change
my dressing tomorrow morning.

I have an appointment this week for a 2nd cataract assessment but I will have to cancel it as there's no way I can get to the hospital in Livingston.

Sorry you still can't sleep Kalu but glad DD is recovering in Aus.
Well done getting those bloods done corner

My yoga teacher sent me a link to a relaxation tape. I should send it to you Madeleine , I would have been furious with that thoughtless driver.

Good luck today with all your struggles.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 07-Jan-25 07:56:01

Morning all from a rather dull and grey West Oxfordshire.

It’s the monthly WI coffee morning, which is usually a hoot. We range from 40s to mid-90s!

OH will be at his Shooting club this evening, which means an early dinner.

I am wondering where my new car has got to! The last I heard it was on a ship coming from South Korea. I am looking forward to seeing it!

Have a good day.

Marydoll Tue 07-Jan-25 08:03:11

Good morning all from Glasgow, still really cold here.

Yesterday was spent taking down the two Christmas trees and decorations, it was exhausting. Every year we say that we need to rethink and never do.

I went to Sainsbury's to pick up a parcel, I felt so awful, I had to come home. Waiting for 8am to phone the surgery. I can't go on like this, it is causing problems with my medication.

Madeleine, our doctor's allows a ten minute window, then they won't see us., no matter what the circumstances. However, I did once call to say I was stuck in a traffic jam and they moved all the appointments up.

I will come back and read properly later.
