Your choice- but I truly don't get it.

I have a few Prada and a few Mulberry bags and one Stella McCartney. They are my weakness, I use them all regularly and interchange them.

My SIL is into Louis Vuitton handbags. She buys them because she likes them and, I guess, for the ‘social status’ attached to these handbags, especially the limited - edition ones.

I have a sister is who is very wealthy, definitely when compared to SIL. She and her husband own a number of high end properties. She is the complete opposite, no designer handbags or labels and she does not even wear any jewellery.

I have a small Fendi bag and a larger Dune bag which my daughter gave me as a Christmas present.

I wouldn’t recognise any of the bags mentioned except like MissA, radley, though would still need to see the dangling dog attached to the handles.

Regarding my previous reply about The Cat Gallery in York!

I absolutely love this bag and purse!

I don't really use them. I have a canvas troop london organiser bag that I occasionally use and have had for years. And a small leather cross body bag I sometimes use under a coat for keys and phone eg.

If it was for a special occasion, like a wedding, to match an oufit - maybe £75 max.

I still have a number of nice leather bags from when I was working, nothing ‘named’. I use a fairly small crossbody bag now, it suits me and my needs.

I have two ‘good’ handbags, both gifts, as I would spend as little as possible on a handbag.
On TikTok there are films by a shop in London called Love Luxury, where they buy and sell bags like Hermés Kelly bags for £50,000! Then there’s this one…..

I just got a gorgeous Radley leather bag for £5 on Vinted. It’s exactly what I wanted, beautifully pre-loved and with a couple of teeny biro marks on the lining, just as all my bags have had eventually. I’d been looking in charity shops for months for a bag to replace my ancient one which finally fell apart, and I’m delighted.

I have recently replaced my Bridge brown handbag with a new identical one. The first one cost about £180 and has lasted 16 years used every day. The identical one I got off the Internet reduced at £250. I love the simple design.

I don’t possess a handbag, don’t see the need.

So how do you carry the necessities you might need?

My thoughts on this is if you spend £100s on a handbag surely the rest of your outfit needs to be of equal value otherwise it will spoil the " look" saying that I used to love looking at them and have bought designer fakes on holiday in Turkey before.

Witzend that 3 Guineas woukd be £ 440 now, so yes it was a very extravagant. Gift. Just as well that your mum loved it.

😱! I’m sure he’d never have paid that much, even when feeling generous!
I just checked with Google and according to that it’d be more like around £110. Still extravagant, but at least it did last her for many years. My mother was always one for buying ‘few but good’ as far as possible, and taking care of things.

She had a bit of a ‘thing’ about ‘cheap looking’ colours, too - i.e. something fairly inexpensive could look ‘good’ in one colour, but cheap and nasty in another.

I bought a sling style cross body bag for about £40 for travelling with as it has a lot of useful pockets for stuff but I mostly make my own simple bags with zips and pockets for ordinary daily use. Tote bags and cross body styles mainly.

I’m afraid (being shallow?), I do notice other people’s bags and often think they say something about the owner - a bit like shiny shoes used to.

I’ve never cared about what others choose to wear or carry as judging people by such superficial nonsense is rather childish and reminds me of the school bullies trying to dictate the length of your school skirts. No wonder so many women end up with controlling partners if they still choose men based on whether their shoes are shiny. 😂
