Do you have one? If so, what is it that you like about it?

I have a sample box of perfume from Saltworks. It's clever marketing, but the idea is that you buy sample boxes at varying prices. Each box comes with little vials of scent - ten per box, plus a voucher with a value that depends on how much you paid for the samples - the more you pay, the higher the discount. You try them out and decide which you prefer, and then trade in your voucher for ether a full bottle of your favourite, or a few travel sizes. They make good gifts if you don't know what the recipient would like, and there is a booklet with notes about each of the scents - a bit like wine tasting cards grin.

I'm working through the scents now to see which one to order, and it's got me thinking of favourites over the years. I loved Chanel 19 for a long time, and Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noir, but tried a few different ones that I got as presents or in duty free shops.

I liked the freshness of the 19 when I was younger, and the deeper, woodier notes of the PN later on. I've always liked patchouli/musky/vanilla scents, and am veering towards those with those notes in my sample box.

What about you? Do you stick to a particular scent, or chop and change as you find new ones?

I've never heard of Juliette Has A Gun, but it's on a few lists.

Chanel 19 like forever and can’t see it changing.

denbylover Sun 26-Jan-25 02:13:13

Well, unless it’s discontinued!

White Linen by Esteè Lauder.

I loved Aqua manda too imagine the memories it would provoke if they brought it back. Now it’s Estée Lauder Muse or Narcisco Rodriguez pure musc.

I don’t wear perfume very often and used to wear L’Air du Temps and Samsara. My favourite Jo Malone perfume is Vetyver, which I think is now discontinued, but I really like Jo Loves Green Orange and Coriander, but it doesn’t last on the skin for very long. For Christmas DD gave me a set of two small bottles of Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin and Pomegranate Noir. You are meant to layer them but I absolutely hate Pomegranate Noir and love LB&M, so I can’t see that happening.

I love Cabotine - fresh and green, but harder to find now.

We don t have a dog or a cat, visiting houses that do have pets we really notice the scent of the house.

I wish I could find one that doesn’t have an underlying smell of stale cigarettes. Is it a base ingredient I’m picking up?

Or something wrong with my nose?

My favourite was for quite a few years Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb. I immediately loved the scent of Mugler Alien Hypersense I got as a sample its now my favourite.

I only use Angel and get so many compliments, and people asking what I am wearing,

ViceVersa Sun 26-Jan-25 10:24:15

I really can't stand the smell of Angel. Not sure why, but I can spot it a mile away.

Channel No 5 for high days and holidays, or any other Chanel.
I also have Chanel Chance, and Coco Mademoiselle pour La Nuit.

For every day I am using Cashmere from Next at the moment.

Some years ago I forgot to lack perfume and picked a bottle up at Duty Free. Mostly because it was on offer.
Since then I’ve always had a bottle on the go ( amongst others) and in fact I’m wearing it now. Also, I’ve 2 unopened yet to use.
It has a underlying scent of Lilly of the Valley, to my nose, but I find it deepens as the day goes on.

I don't use perfume. I prefer to use scented toiletry products.

This lovely perfume but doesn’t last long unfortunately

Harris27 Sun 26-Jan-25 11:39:52

I’ve just opened a Claris spray my son bought me as part of a set it’s lovely. Eat de jardins. Beautiful. I usually wear ck eternity. A go to fragrance.

Poppyred Sun 26-Jan-25 13:43:20

My favourite is Hugo Boss Orange perfume (not the edt…the smell doesn’t last). It’s discontinued now so have to stock up on eBay when it’s available.
Also love L’Amoureux by D&G. Also discontinued 😌

I can’t stand the smell of Clinique Aromatics…..gross!

How supercritical can you get - you might not be asked back a second time.

I went through several "favourites" in my teens (I loved Tweed, for some baffling reason, but soon grew out of it!). Finally, aged 23, I settled on Je Reviens by Worth (nose by Maurice Blanchet). I developed a love for France in my 20s but didn't go for Chanel, Dior, Geurlain, etc, just because every other girl and her sister was wearing those at the time! I need cheering up while plodding through the housework, I'll give myself a little dab on the neck pulses. Divine!

As a teenager it was Avon Topaze, anyone remember that one?
Now I wear Channel Allure when given some, it is so expensive.
