As I closed the last kitchen I feel I should open a new one as I think that Soop is in a predicament with the weather.
So on her behalf I welcome you all to visit and enjoy our new space.

Please feel free to bring your sorrows and worries as well as your joys and happy times.
There is always someone to congratulate and to commiserate.

A newish year and a very new kitchen, a meeting place for all.

Hello kitchen people.

I’m sorry that so many of our group are sad at the moment. There are so many difficult things happening.

I had a good time at the U3A annual lunch. The food was delicious and the company excellent. OH didn’t go as he would have found sitting so long difficult. But, I asked if I could take his meal back with me - he had paid for it and it would have been thrown out! So, he was very pleased to have pork and all the trimmings and apple crumble for dinner tonight. I had porridge for dinner. My salmon and chocolate mousse had been delicious too.

Sleep 💤 tight.

Tomorrow will be a day of memories for you. Hold the good ones tight. You were blessed with the love of a good man. Not everyone has that in their life.

I hope this poem may ease your sorrow tomorrow, just a little.

She Is Gone (He Is Gone)
Popular funeral poem based on a short verse by David Harkins. An uplifting poem about being grateful for a loved one’s life.

She Is Gone (He Is Gone)
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes.

FGT thank you. That was one of the poems we had at DH’s funeral. Along with “Walk within me” or as it’s sometimes called “If I should be the first to die”. Very moving.
I will go to the hospice tomorrow where I can sit for a while. I find peace there. Hope all is going well for you and Mr FGT and you and your DH Yiayia

Good afternoon kitchen pals, another sunny but bitterly cold day here in Inverness
Just wanted to say thinking of everyone in the quiet corner today, especially those missing loved ones, sending ❤️

Grannmarie Fri 14-Feb-25 17:54:27

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. I'm thinking of those for whom this day brings sadness.💐

DH and I took a country drive today to a favourite farm shop and restaurant in the Clyde Valley. The sun managed to peek out of the clouds for a wee while, making it a nice outing. The riverside farm shop has its own butchery so the meat is always delicious, if a bit pricey. Bought some for the freezer. I also bought some gorgeous primulae from their garden centre. We had a super lunch ( more like high tea) in the restaurant, DH had his favourite steak pie and I had lasagne, followed by tea and home baking.
Feet up now, we won't need dinner tonight!

Just had word that the operation went ahead today, all is well, good news.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Friday evening and a good weekend. TOYA.

Redcar Fri 14-Feb-25 18:08:54

Hello everyone. We had a lovely sunny afternoon with clear blue skies, after a cloudy morning. But the temperature is already down to 1 degree, so probably a very cold night ahead.
I hope that today hasn’t been too difficult for those missing their partners.
My back has been much better today, I’ve done very little all day, but did go to the lunchtime bingo session. It was very well attended today, but no winnings for me. I did win a lovely hamper of fruit in the raffle though, definitely worth going!
The lunch was quite substantial, so I’ll just have a bowl of soup for my tea.
Good that your relative’s operation went ahead today grannmarie, I hope a swift recovery is made.
I hope you all have a peaceful evening.

Grannmarie Fri 14-Feb-25 18:36:10

Thank you, Redcar.
Glad to hear that your back is much better today. Well done on winning the fruit, excellent prize!

brook2704 Fri 14-Feb-25 18:47:59

Pleased the operation went ahead today and hoping the recovery goes well grannmarie 💐 Sounds like you’ve had a good day together with your DH ❤️
Good to hear your back is a bit better today redcar 👍
I’ve had a lovely afternoon with my pal, it means so much just to sit and chat with a good friend. Another one of life’s simple pleasures that I enjoy!

Grannmarie Fri 14-Feb-25 19:04:21

Thanks, brook. It's our 52cnd wedding anniversary. It was snowing !
Sounds like a lovely afternoon putting the world to rights with your pal.

Grannmarie Fri 14-Feb-25 19:06:07

I meant that it was snowing on the day we married, not today!🤣

Grandmabatty Fri 14-Feb-25 19:07:34

Grannmarie I'm glad the operation went ahead. Best wishes.
I was out with dd and the boys for breakfast this morning. They both behaved well. We tried a new venue and the portions were huge! Later I went to the retail park to pick up part of dgs1's birthday present and a gift for a baby girl - my friend's recent granddaughter. The hospital phoned to say mum has a chest infection and they are giving her antibiotics but they feel she is deteriorating. I thought so too. I'll see how she is on Sunday when I visit.
Mince and tatties again tonight and I'm about to have a cuppa. Take care all

Grandmabatty Fri 14-Feb-25 19:08:20

Grannmarie a very happy anniversary to you both.🎂💐🎉🥂

Redcar Fri 14-Feb-25 19:29:05

grannmarie Happy Anniversary! 🥂. The hamper of fruit was a brilliant prize, a real departure from the usual prizes!
I’m glad you had a pleasant drive and a good lunch and shop in the farm shop/restaurant.
grandmabatty a good breakfast for you this morning. I’m sorry that your mum is unwell - a worrying time for you.
Keep warm everyone.

Grannmarie Fri 14-Feb-25 19:39:03

Thank you, ladies. We had a lovely afternoon, not our usual Friday but with the schools on holiday this weekend we didn't have the Wee Boy today, so we were free to go off gallivanting!

Grandmabatty, sounds like a great breakfast and your new venue will become a regular. I'm sorry to hear that your Mum is not well. Hope the antibiotics help and she is comfortable.

Jaxjacky Fri 14-Feb-25 19:49:54

Happy Anniversary Grannmarie 🥂no excuse for forgetting the date 🙂 good the op went ahead, best wishes to the patient.
A cold day, but we had some sunshine, hurrah! Which made me think seeds, planting, warmer days…rather optimistic!
I hope your Mum is not too bad Grandmabatty hopefully the old antibees will have kicked in.
Right, dinner is ready, enjoy your evening all
Hugs to those having a tough day x

Nannytopsy Fri 14-Feb-25 19:56:10

Best wishes to your mum Grandmabatty.
Oh boy has our bank account taken a hammering! DH ordered 2 pairs of specs on Monday and today I ordered 2. The central heating has been fixed today. 4 new tyres. The first half of our holiday payment. And £200 in Tesco.
I am not taking my card out of my purse again this month!! We shall live out of the freezer and the store cupboard!
Half of the family are coming for dinner tomorrow then we get DGC for the day on Monday so I have stocked up on breakfast, lunch etc for them. We are on carb free diets, so I have to buy things we don’t usually have in the trolley.
I hope MrS is feeling stronger?
Enjoy the weekend everyone

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 14-Feb-25 20:14:05

‘Evening All’.

By ‘eck it’s been cold here today. Bitterly so! Alexa said 5°C this morning but the chill easterly wasn’t pleasant for a half hour walk each way to the MacMillan coffee group. Actually we had a good laugh at times. Well, you’ve got to really haven’t you or the enormity of what you’re living with would cut to the quick. There were more folk, which of course is sad in itself.

Hope your mum picks up on her antibiotics Grandmabatty over the weekend.

cornergran Fri 14-Feb-25 20:37:35

Happy anniversary granmarie. 🥂.

It’s been a quiet day here, caught up with some tedium, was very proud I could open a new ISA and transfer another account into it without a hitch. A miracle smile. We wandered out this afternoon for some seed potatoes and found ourselves in the garden centre cafe with tea and cake. Don’t know how that happened.

Thoughts go to all missing a loved one today.

The consultants descriptive follow up letter arrived today. Not the appointment I remember! We have a telephone appointment in a month to deal with two specific questions I raised by email. I’ll have notes prepared and can only 🤞. As the song says things can only get better. Thank you all for the kind words. I’m not usually such a wimp!

We’ve a family birthday to focus on this weekend. I am determined to enjoy it. Our elder son is celebrating his 50th birthday a little early to accommodate his daughters needs. We’ll go armed with cake, balloons and decorations. Good to have a happy event on the horizon.

Should a yellow thing appear in the sky I’ll be ecstatic. It feels we’ve been under grey cloud forever.

Hope your Mum improves grandmab. Like the sound of that breakfast.

Have a good evening everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-Feb-25 20:40:49

Still here with legs elevated, nothing to report.

Sending (((hugs)))🩷🌹

Grandmabatty Fri 14-Feb-25 21:34:40

Ladies, thank you all. Mum is comfortable but mainly non verbal to the nurses. As long as she isn't in distress, that's all I can hope for just now.

GrandmaC47 Fri 14-Feb-25 21:42:38

Happy anniversary,Grannmarie
Pleased your back is less painful, Redcar.
Hope your mum is more comfortable Grandmabatty.
Nannytopsy , I ordered new specs yesterday, the cost is eye watering.
GG13 onwards and upwards 😀.
Enjoy your weekend everyone.

brook2704 Fri 14-Feb-25 21:59:51

A very Happy Anniversary grannmarie , how lovely to be married on Valentines Day ❤️💐🎂
Hoping your mum is comfortable grandmabatty
Sounds an expensive day nannytopsy, everything all at once
Roll on Spring Jax - this morning before I went out I actually had my cuppa sat out in the garden, in a sunny spot and well wrapped up, wasn’t too bad!
Enjoy the birthday celebrations this weekend corner 🎂🥂🍷

Grannmarie Fri 14-Feb-25 22:52:00

Thanks for all the anniversary wishes, very kind.

Grandmabatty, thank you for your update, good to hear that your Mum is comfortable.
