Do you like it, and how do you like it done?
Dark/light and just buttered, or with Marmite, peanut butter, or jam and marmalade?

My own sourdough bread, medium thickness, toasted till golden, lots of unsalted butter and then unrefined pink Himalayan salt sprinkled on top.

I love tinned tomatoes on toast.
Lots of black pepper, some salt, and piping hot.

love toast, my favourite go to, prefer a nice slice from an unsliced loaf, preferably white but wholemeal will do, and will have almost anything on it - jam, marmalade, peanut butter, banana, honey. MissAdventure, yes tinned tomatoes on toast are lovely, haven't had that for ages. And yes the best toast ever was after each of my children were born

Brown or white toast done medium brown plenty of sales butter, then either marmite, blackcurrant or apricot jam or my current favourite, a good quality lemon curd

tidyskatemum Tue 04-Feb-25 14:12:46

One slice is never enough! I like one slice with butter and marmite slapped on with a trowel and the other with butter and DH’s homemade marmalade, He made blackcurrant curd last summer, which was gorgeous on toast.

MissAdventure

I used to love beef dripping on toast, with salt and pepper on.
I could just eat that now!

This really reminds me of going to my gran's house who always had lovely dripping. Nowadays it's lightly done toast, loads of butter and a scraping of marmalade for me.
Must get some beef dripping!

I’m a pale toast with butter, sometimes with jam, lemon marmalade or lemon curd. Tried marmite once and had to brush my teeth and use mouthwash to get rid of the taste, it’s the devils work in my opinion

Crunchy rye toast with lots virgin olive oil!

B9exchange Tue 04-Feb-25 14:48:19

Lightly toasted, propped up to go cold, thinly spread with salted butter, and a small amount of acacia honey. Hate it with the butter melted in!

Bazza Tue 04-Feb-25 14:55:58

Although we usually eat some sort of brown/seeded/wholemeal bread, nothing beats toasted white bread. It has to be cold for me, plenty of butter, not quite so you can see teeth marks, and virtually anything else. I agree much nicer grilled rather than in the toaster. Proper comfort food.

DamaskRose Tue 04-Feb-25 15:10:40

Well done (burnt!) with butter and DH’s marmalade or banana.

I often make soda bread to accompany a meal . Too impatient to make yeasted bread .
Next day makes the most sublime toast . Have been known to make it simply for toast .
Love it with butter only or if being indulgent warmed marmalade and a rasher of crisp bacon on top.

pen50 Tue 04-Feb-25 15:25:31

Made some marmalade yesterday. I e has it with toast this morning. Twice. It's yummy.

MissAdventure Tue 04-Feb-25 15:31:10

For the marmite people, a toasted marmite sandwich is very nice, and quite different to marmite on toast. smile

My daughter liked paté on toast.

JamesandJon33 Tue 04-Feb-25 16:13:53

For the hot toast people…a cold toast explanation. The butter doesn’t melt and goes on thickly. You can see your tooth marks. Splendid

MissAdventure Tue 04-Feb-25 16:14:53

Splendid indeed!! 👍

Used to love toast done to the point of being dark, no butter, and a layer of honey on it. Also used to love Marmite but on buttered toast. Alas, the plastic gnashers I am now saddled with has made anything which requires much chewing, a thing of the past.
Used to enjoy beans on toast as well, but nowadays it's a plates of beans sans toast.
On the plus side, little or no bread nowadays has done wonders for my waistline, to the relief of the bathroom scales!

OldEnough2noBetter Tue 04-Feb-25 19:54:17

I loved brown toast with butter
and also was a nutter
for tahini or peanut butter.
I loved a bit of Marmite.
Some hate it but it’s all right
and Paddington’s favourite: marmalade
I’d trowel on with a tiny spade.
Not all of these toppings at once, mind;
that would’ve been far too unkind
to my innards and guts.
But what now drives me nuts:
I’m gluten intolerant. And must go G free.
What a predicament in which to be.
I’m lactose intolerant too!
What’s a lass to do?
No more butter or regular bread;
GF loaves and alternative spread.
It’s a voyage of discovery to find the right toast
that won’t upset my gut and will satisfy the most.

I like mine when I can't get back to sleep at stupid o'clock in the morning with a cup of tea (or a hot chocolate) and some puzzles to distract me from being cross about having woken up (or not being asleep!).

I like a slice of Tiger Bloomer well toasted and left to go cold. Then I butter it and spread Seville Orange marmalade. My son thinks this is terrible because toast should be hot. I have explained that hot toast spread with butter is completely different (but just as nice)

DrWatson Wed 05-Feb-25 01:26:15

For Weirdo - sonds like you have a Gluten problem. Lots of GF bread these days, or try making your own, Spelt flour works OK for some people, has some gluten, but apparently the right gluten??

And for Miss A --- why not 'granary bread', except that the wretched stuff has those horrible bits in it that attack your fillings?!

I like it hot or cold, but cold is good because you get to taste the butter more.

MissAdventure Wed 05-Feb-25 10:23:21

I love granary bread DrWatson , it's my favourite, but does it count as seedy?
I had an "investgation" and was told they could tell I ate seedy bread, and that I shouldn't anymore. blush

I was so traumatised by the whole thing, I've not dared to eat anything seedy or lumpy since.

shysal Wed 05-Feb-25 10:32:16

Once in a while for a treat I buy a cheese and Marmite loaf from my village bakery. I have two doorstep slices toasted lightly, which I allow to cool slightly before adding real butter sliced thinly from the block.
I am hungry now!

MissAdventure Wed 05-Feb-25 10:34:44

Oh that sounds blooming lovely!
Bet it's nice with beans on, too.
