Change for better or for worse?

The driving principle for voting in the last election was to get the Tories out; (I understand why) but many excellent MPs lost their seats, Labour has an unwarranted huge majority, there is no viable opposition and they are daily demonstrating their inadequacy in government.

That’s disgraceful. 6 months on and they haven’t fixed everything the tories ruined over the past 14 years.

This government never proclaimed itself as socialist.

When Corbyn was leader he was hated for being too left and almost a Marxist. We lost an election and that was a disaster for this country.

Labour can't win. If they are left and socialist they lose votes, if they are centre and to the right they are labelled as just like the Tories.

Whichever, they will be accused of messing up, even when they have sound and even forward looking policies.

We were warned that things wouldn't get better very quickly, but people are used to the short-termism (which is a mirage anyway- look how long brexit took) and short-sighted policies that only make things better for those on the make.

We need stability and slow but steady change.

I think I'm wasting my time though, because this is probably just another thread for having a go...

No, you're not wasting your time keepingquiet. If government attackers are allowed to get away with being more vocal, people might begin to believe them (I think some already have). People need to be reminded what the government is doing - unfortunately, the government's PR is rubbish.

There’s room for all opinions on how this Labour government is doing and what we all think of their policies and performance.

Of course, there’s room for everybody, and that includes those who want to post about their pet hates, be it Brexit, Starmer, Blair, Johnson, Truss, Trump - or whatever. As long as they don’t lie about information that is factual.

As you say Casdon, government attackers should be allowed to have their say, just as government supporters should. Only censorship would prevent government attackers from having freedom of speech.

You're right keeping quiet it's the inability to plan securely for more than 4 years that stymies steady growth. I don't know what the answer is except for more serious cross-party involvement in major projects, and keeping the relevant ministers in place for the lifetime of the parliament.

Rachel Reeves is signing up to railways and runways and reservoirs that will take a decade or more to build. Should Labour lose in 2028/29 (I sincerely hope they won't) and these schemes be under way but abandoned by an incoming government, then where will we be. Half the country dug up to no avail.

Isn’t a community cupboard available to anybody, as a means of reducing food waste, rather than a foodbank, for which people have to be eligible though? I’d expect a lot of people would use a community cupboard to get free food?

At risk of sounding naive/too leftie/a bit daft or with worse memory problems than I know I have ……. I remember attacks from ‘some of us’ on the Conservatives that were based on reality.
Like Cameron’s unnecessary austerity agenda wrecking public services, leading to the nhs/children’s services/adult social care/every aspect of the CJS / mental health/substance misuse services etc etc being effectively demolished.
Like Johnson’s number 10 partying while her majesty sat alone at her husband’s funeral

Indeed it is! What did the previous govt achieve in their first 6 months??

I’m still waiting patiently for some positive results, which I think we won’t see for at least another year.
