I love the Gingsters (pasties)ad and also I think the Specsavers ads are really clever
The one that really gets to me is Andrex it’s just so weird
I’m not sure if we see the same adverts in all parts of the country šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Whizz back 55 years and my favourite advert was the Coca Cola one .... "I'd like to teach the world to sing......... It's the real thing....Coke is.
I'm ashamed to say that I still snigger when the "One Sheet" advert comes on for kitchen rolls.... It surely can't be an accident that the actor has a very strong accent and it actually sounds like he's saying "One S..t". I know I know I need to get out more and apologies for lowering the tone ... I'll retreat back into the naughty girls corner now.

I loved the Coca Cola ad too, I remember all the young people on a hillside holding hands singing the ā€˜I’d like to teach the world to sing’ song. I used to sing along.

On the beach advert. Makes ā€˜booking ā€˜sound like a swear word. Listen!

Oh yes!

Someone mentioned those utterly irritating 'expert advice' clips between Sky Arts shows. Absolutely! I could scream at the sheer banality of them. Whistling insurance customers, big bottoms, pee pants woman, smug Derek, bingo bores...I just can't hit the mute quickly enough! A new one is the idiotic guy who has to go for a break and gets plastered with post it notes. Do they really believe we can be persuaded by this garbage?
I like the guy selling potatoes at the roadside for crypto currency and (same product ) the clever ans funny comedienne describing pretentious paint colours.
But I find it best to record everything I want to watch and zoom through the ads at fastest speed. BECAUSE THEY ARE AN INSULT TO OUR INTELLIGENCE!! Whoever thinks them up needs to get another career!

That awful braying Scottish donkey with huge teeth promoting Listerine or similar. I have to shut my eyes and cover my ears till it’s over.

The Maltesers one with granny and her creepy old boyfriend who apparently ā€˜do it’ or ā€˜get it on’. Yuk!

Irish woman (I think) sitting on the loo.

That woman, dressed in pastel colours, waffling on about how her baby is always wrapped in softness, even if not in her arms, because of her wash powder/conditioner. Find her so irritating. 🤮

In general I’ve always liked the Sky stuff. The woman with the kimono that turns into butterflies. The spotty dog who shakes his spots off. It’s the way the people who are being advised give that sickly smile that gets to me.

I’m not sure I have any advert I like anymore!

I loathe all the sanitary ads, the incontinence ads and the blonde woman on the mobility aids ad.

This.
I especially dislike the advert which shows a sanitary pad with red liquid being poured on to it.
Absolutely tasteless.

I cannot stand the woman's voice on the Viking cruise ad. Is she trying to appeal to older people?, if so, it's not working. Generally any ads with OAPs in, makes them look either imbeciles or patronising. I quite like the one with the badger in, I think it's for Capital, it always makes me laugh, likewise the Nationwide ones.

I wince at the Viking woman’s voice! It sounds as if she’s just had a stringent course of elocution lessons. Particularly the way she pronounces the ā€˜I’ in Viking.
God knows I have nothing against RP - give me that any day rather than the Cinch bloke who leaves off all his final gs and looks like my idea of Beelzebub, but there are limits.

I find a lot of ads irritating and infantile but I'm really sick to death of all the ads that fill the screens with peoples backsides jiggling up and down.

And why are all car ads arty with absolutely no information about the actual car involved.

I forgot to add that probably my most favourite ad of all time is the gorilla playing the drums in the cadbury advert.

Ziplok Wed 12-Feb-25 19:13:40

I quite like the spec savers ads, but that’s about all. Most are irritating beyond belief - either smug, tasteless, annoying, patronising, or silly. Some are a mix of those.
Then there are the ones where it’s not really clear just what they are advertising.

Jaxjacky Wed 12-Feb-25 19:28:15

Our quiz on Monday had a round on TV ad strap lines, we didn’t do well.

Nanny27 Wed 12-Feb-25 19:30:31

Hate the Flash adverts with the guy cleaning the kitchen.
Absolutely love the (I think Mr Kipling) ad with the old man and the young woman playing the piano together.
Has anyone seen the latest Specsaver ad where he thinks he's lost his dog? Very funny.

Yes, I’ve seen that one, I think all the Specs savers ads are brilliant…

Annewilko Wed 12-Feb-25 20:00:50

The twix one with the bears and the giffgaff one with the saxophone and pigeon

Mojack26 Wed 12-Feb-25 20:05:49

The Tena one with 'gush' moments... I hate all these adverts with a passion!!!! No need for them.... Life assurance and funeral plan ones...horrendous

Diplomat Wed 12-Feb-25 20:21:06

Mostly adverts really irritate me. Great when you record something and can fast forward through them. Hate that the sound goes up when they come on. However I do smile at the Haribo advert, where they dub the voices of two police officers with children's voices!

grannybuy Wed 12-Feb-25 23:25:05

I dislike the majority, particularly the funeral ones, and the over fifties insurance plans - and, of course, all the ā€˜ pad ā€˜ ones. The washing product ones annoy me, as they keep trotting out something new, which is supposed to be better still. Considering the cost of these adverts, I can only assume that people are buying the products, and the companies are making great profits. I’m still using washing powder.

grannybuy Wed 12-Feb-25 23:26:59

I forgot about the dire Listerine one with the donkey with the ā€˜ Scottish ā€˜ accent!

Deedaa Wed 12-Feb-25 23:38:01

I normally record everything and fast forward through the ads. When I occasionally catch one I often don't know what they are advertising and certainly can't imagine anyone being tempted to buy anything they are selling.

In recent years my favourites have been Haribo's "We ARE the police" and the Old Spice "I'm the man your man could smell like" I sometimes give myself a treat by finding that one on YouTube.

HiPpyChick57 Thu 13-Feb-25 03:41:33

The most disgusting add is where the little girl has a dish of chocolate covered something or other. Not quite sure what, nuts maybe. She’s sucking the chocolate off and he’s picking them up and eating them without realising what she’s doing. I think it’s advertising a cold remedy. 🤢

The other one I hate is the pot noodle slurper. I think people may have complained as it’s not on so much now and when it is on it’s usually minus the slurping. Who thinks these ads up?

My favourite ad is the perfume one where Maria Callas is singing. I can’t remember the name of the perfume but Maria’s voice is absolutely beautiful.

JamesandJon33 Thu 13-Feb-25 05:09:19

Hate the Lenor one with the man sniffing everything and with his wobbly mouth going ā€˜wooshh’ Yuk

Calendargirl Thu 13-Feb-25 06:45:05

Haven’t noticed the Maria Callas one, will listen out for it.

What is she singing?

nanna8 Thu 13-Feb-25 06:47:05

Basically I don’t like any of them but the Aldi ads are probably some of the most creative here.

SueinEspana Thu 13-Feb-25 07:37:46

Ginsters and the Barclays ad where children are pretending to be adults. Absolutely hate the Tesco 'I've got the power' ads!!
