Meghan’s April Fool?

From The Tines this morning
Imagine if I told you I was giving you something “in keepsake packaging that you can repurpose to tuck away love notes or special treasures, and to remember this pivotal moment with me”. You would look at me strangely and ask if I should perhaps seek specialist medical help, and you would be right. And if I then told you that this keepsake packaging could be used as a “small bud vase for flowers on your nightstand or to hold pens on your desk”, could you guess what it was ?
A vintage piece of pretty china, say? Big reveal: it's a jam jar^

Whouda thunk?
Using an old jam jar for pencils? (Who uses pencils?)
Personally I put mine through the dishwasher and re use them for the next batch of raspberry jam -sorry, spread

Isn't Sussex pond pudding a steamed suet thing?

Anniebach Wed 02-Apr-25 15:31:43

Surely not.fruit spread ?

TerriBull Wed 02-Apr-25 15:41:42

I think traditionally it"s steamed, theirs may not be, possibly more of a "half baked" sort of concoction, to reflect other aspects of their lives.

TerriBull Wed 02-Apr-25 15:45:22

Then again they may go for the "sue it" which Harry is partial to.

SueDonim Wed 02-Apr-25 15:57:19

I want Sussex pond pudding now, Terribull. grin

Rosie51 Wed 02-Apr-25 16:19:04

I often used to buy one of these "Favourite" recipe books when we visited somewhere on a holiday or day outing.

I know Sussex pond reipe sounded really good but I never got around to making it. Wonder if I've still got those I bought squirrelled away in a bookcase somewhere.

Waitrose empty jars were dearer than those with jam.

Angiewub Wed 02-Apr-25 16:58:09

Aah but the company for Bonne maman were French resistance supporters in WW2. I always buy their jam and reuse their jars!

I did make a Sussex Pond Pudding years ago, probably before the Sussexes were even born or thought of, and it was utterly delicious with about 1,500 calories per portion.

I used to make that a lot in my catering days.I got the recipe from the late Jane Grigson’s “English Food.”
It went down VERY well!

Perhaps you could give Meghan some tips from your catering days?

TerriBull Wed 02-Apr-25 18:19:23

Well I live in Sussex just, and I've yet to find that pudding in a restaurant here or any where else for that matter hmm so I guess I'd have to make my own , as you did Allira. We do have plenty of ponds here at least, minus the puddings of course and also minus our very own Duke and Duchess of Sussex although I believe the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk live in Arundel. I'm not sure Montecito Meghan "call me Mrs Sussex" has graced us with her presence sad "As Ever" we live in hopes. Perhaps the fruit spread could go head to head with Tiptree's jam from Essex, why Danny (Dyer) Duke of Essex, he's descended from royalty don't you know, is fiercely proud of his jam.

Not needed, I believe Meghan's production had filched some of the crew from the runaway success that was "Boil it Like Beckham" where Brooklyn mesmerised his audience with feats such as "Boiling a Kettle", "Boiling an Egg" culminating in his piece de resistance "Boil in a Bag Fish".

Anyone who saw Meghan commit dried pasta to vegetables being cooked in some sort of stock, well where do you think she got that idea from?????

Wot!? The eponymous couple have not been to grace their people with their presence?

Allira Wed 02-Apr-25 19:55:20

Keep 'em coming, Terribull

Boil it like Beckham 😁 hope he used white eggs like Delia!

Ps I'm hopeless with cooking eggs, leave it to Himself.

I see the edible flowers are £15 a jar, so I may have to give them a miss. I wonder whether some of this stuff is new to American women so they may find it really interesting?

Celieanne86 Wed 02-Apr-25 21:07:37

I’m quite impressed with my own recycling idea for jam jars. I have spider plant babies and money plant cuttings growing quite happily in my laundry room ready to be potted on for sale at the next church spring fair or coffee morning. Also my grandchildren who love painting when they visit use jam jars for the water and I dont have a nightstand sorry but I do collect marbles and they look quite pretty in the big glass coffee jars, so many ideas I dont know which to go with next 😁

Spot on Angiewub: the Bonne Maman family firm were amazing in WW2.
I like to read ingredients and Bonne Maman products are great - including their biscuits and puddings ... 😋 yum.

Pansies must be edible as something's been nibbling mine!
