Meghan’s April Fool?

From The Tines this morning
Imagine if I told you I was giving you something “in keepsake packaging that you can repurpose to tuck away love notes or special treasures, and to remember this pivotal moment with me”. You would look at me strangely and ask if I should perhaps seek specialist medical help, and you would be right. And if I then told you that this keepsake packaging could be used as a “small bud vase for flowers on your nightstand or to hold pens on your desk”, could you guess what it was ?
A vintage piece of pretty china, say? Big reveal: it's a jam jar^

Whouda thunk?
Using an old jam jar for pencils? (Who uses pencils?)
Personally I put mine through the dishwasher and re use them for the next batch of raspberry jam -sorry, spread

Nightstand = bedside table

When I was a-child I used to put caterpillars in jam jars, with some of their food plant. They would pupate and then emerge as beautiful butterflies, which I freed at once, of course.

Just my contribution to the Uses of Jam Jars thread 😀

I'm not sure what a nightstand is. I've heard of a 'one night stand'. Is it similar? 😀

😂😂😂

You could grow runner beans in jam jars too. Line jam jar with blotting paper, place in two or three broad beans, wet blotting paper, keep damp, place on a window sill and bean stalks fit for Jack will emerge!

You can get battery fairy lights that fit inside an empty jar. They are very pretty and popular on tables at weddings. Surprised Meghan didn’t come up with that use which would be nice on a bedside table sorry nightstand.

You could be onto a winner hereGrandma70s

I used to do the same.

I watched a documentary on consumer waste on Netflix..it states that those symbols are useless on plastic packaging. Half of it can’t be recycled so I now put it in the bin- for years I have put it through my dishwasher, now I find out it goes to landfill in china & other countries. I’ll only recycle tins & glass from now on.

Who'd have thought jam jars could be so useful?

When my children were young I used to have a ginger beer thing in a jam jar. I've forgotten exactly how it worked, but it meant we had a continuous supply of ginger beer. Did anyone else here have one?

Ginger beer plant. There are lots of recipes online. I’ve never done one but I know it can be absolutely explosive

I put individual cheesecakes in mine: are cheesecakes a thing in California?

Allira Wed 02-Apr-25 12:30:31

Most definitely.

I used to buy Bonne Maman? desserts which came in glass pots which were useful for all kinds of things afterwards.

Rosie51 Wed 02-Apr-25 12:39:09

That's reminded me that I used to buy crème brûlée in glass pots from M&S. I wonder if they still do them, I've still got my blow torch I used to caramelise the sugar topping. Eventually I'd have too many pots so they went into recycling after the charity shop didn't want any more.

As the original home of The Cheesecake Factory chain of stores, the aforementioned dessert is most definitely a thing in California! grin It started up in Beverley Hills. Despite frequent visits to the US, I’ve never been to one, oddly enough.

Does Meghan have a sense of humour?

Grantanow Wed 02-Apr-25 13:11:35

Lots of uses above and I use Bonne Mamom jars for storing grapes from our vine in brandy and as drip catchers under radiator valves till they get fixed (or silt up).

knspol Wed 02-Apr-25 13:28:03

There are a lot nicer things than empty jam jars to store things in but the I suppose having paid so much for the jar of jam you may as well make use of the empty jar!

Delila Wed 02-Apr-25 13:47:14

I put my washed jam jars with lids on in a box at the roadside & the recycling-truck driver puts them all in his cab. - I think he or his wife probably makes jams and preserves.

Flakesdayout Wed 02-Apr-25 14:01:24

I use the Nutella 'jars' to measure my ingredients for 12 yorkshire puddings. Just right.

A manufactured one which she keeps in a jar on her nightstand.

Barbadosbelle Wed 02-Apr-25 15:00:34

.

Whenever I read anything regarding Meghan, I aways end up thinking "Poor sily Harry".

Lizzie44 Wed 02-Apr-25 15:18:12

Another case of teaching your grandmother to suck eggs.... whilst laughing all the way the bank.

NotSpaghetti Wed 02-Apr-25 15:21:06

My daughter said she saw the first episode and enjoyed it.
She said it was "pretty ordinary but harmless".
I think she probably found it relaxing to be honest.

TerriBull Wed 02-Apr-25 15:23:18

Following on from Secondwind's post above, as expected The DM is all over the price for the thimble full small jar of jam, a mere 215 g retailing between $12 and $15, case of "I saw you coming". As a comparison, " Bonne Maman 370g retails around £3 to £3.50 depending on where it's bought. Who in their right mind is going to lash out on this product, maybe once to try it out hmm

Well as The White Queen was prone to pronounce "Jam tomorrow, jam yesterday, but never jam today, especially not at those prices shock

Anyway, I can't wait for the Sussex Pond Life Pudding, I believe it's in production as we ponder on the jam, or fruit spread as it's labelled, and yes there is such a pudding, although the actual pudding part could be on the small side, but allegedly there's going to be ever such a BIG pond, the purpose of which is to cast in sprinkles "100s of 1000s" each one representing a person one has fallen out with, thereafter known as "pond life" So clearly a humongous area is required, probably less pond more lake size, I'm thinking Lake Michigan, that sort of area, anyway suffice to say enough to accommodate ex family, ex friends, ex staff, ex employees, particularly those at the Palace, production team on South Park, production team on Spotify "Archetypes" -- a somewhat stressful experience coping with the copious demands ooo! where did we hear that before, many requiring therapy in the aftermath-- But especially that nasty man who coined the phrase a couple of f*****g griffters" Sentebale Charity Bosses, annoying celebrities who rubbish "As If" tv show and the associated merch and well all those who just don't fawn enough, we know who we are could run into squillions.
