It was unkind and disrespectful thing to do to a lady who was always proud of her appearance. No way was she able to consent to this either.

It wasn’t kind to publish the photo as I’m pretty sure the lady herself would not have wanted it published if she was in her right mind. I found it upsetting.

Was there monetary gain to be had by her husband I wonder by releasing Julie's photograph to the press.

I understand he's withdrawn the photo now, due to the backlash he's received, but obviously it's too late now.

Very unkind to post. There is a picture of her from 2024 which is much nicer, he should have re posted that.

My mum had Alzheimers and died aged 84. I made sure she always looked neat and tidy, took her to all her check ups, including the dentist.

My mother passed Away last July of dementia and we told all family no pictures of mam were to be posted on social media as it’s just not respectful at all when someone is that ill . That picture of Julie saddens me

Well, I’ve just seen it again, on F/B, only a minute ago, under ‘Celebrity News’ or similar.

Mean and unnecessary I think. To give him the benefit of the doubt perhaps he wasn’t thinking straight. My DH and I both said it’s not the way to treat a person you love. At the very least he could have dressed her in nice clothes, a little makeup, teeth in etc.

Barbara Windsors husband didn’t do this sort of thing when she was ill. Nor Prunella Scales’ family.

Still maybe they need the £ as others have already pointed out.

The husband is a lot younger. Good on him for caring for Julie but I don’t think the pre dementia Julie would have wanted this picture published or even taken. Perhaps he was just trying to raise awareness idk.

My Mum had Alzheimers and would have been horrified to have her photo taken without her teeth. She always looked beautiful, wore lovely perfume and I bought really nice clothes for her.

In what way was he raising awareness though. We know what alzheimers is, we know it us a terrible disease. He isn't performing any useful public service by doing this.

It does seem very disrespectful. I have seen the photo and was shocked at her appearance. Could it be that her DH wanted to show people the reality of dementia. We watch adverts on tv about people living with dementia, sweet elderly people who forget what day it is and constantly ask the same questions, if only Alzheimers Disease was so simple!
It can be hell on earth for carers , having to cope with their loved ones irrationality and poor judgement and their inability to listen to reason .
I have mixed feelings about that photograph, Julie Goodyear deserves dignity , but it is a stark reminder of what dementia can do to a person . It's a truly shocking progressive disease.

She looks happy and clean, her hair is tidy It's definitly a shock I am ashamed to say I thought she died years ago Its just her missing teeth which makes her look so different but maybe she won’t wear them
My mum couldn’t hear anything without her hearing aids which she’d relied on for years and years but when she had Alzheimer’s she would not wear them she pulled them straight out She also bit the dentist so he wouldn’t even look in her mouth any more.

I wonder why this picture was made public Perhaos he’s trying to say I love her anyway or I m not ashamed of my wife or perhaps he did make money out of the shock factor

I thought the pics were awful as she was always such a glamorous lady.

Why should we hide people away and be ashamed of them because they are no longer glamorous
I m not at all sure of the reason behind these photos but she shouldn’t be hidden because she has aged poorly
It seems he put the photos on FB and the newspapers picked them up and ran with it
Surely it should be the paper (which newspaper was it by the way ? ) which should be sued by him or her family

He still loves his wife and posted the picture saying he and his lovely wife had celebrated her birthday, because he loves her and has seen her every day he does not see what others see, he deleted the post from his Facebook after the nasty comments and is very upset at what others were saying.

A vile act on the part of her husband. Was it an act of revenge for a past argument and he's holding a grudge? Or did a media outlet offer him a fat cheque?

It was about her dignity, he should have had enough nous to transpose himself into her position. Would he want someone posting such a picture if he was not compos mentis, not being able to make an informed choice and that picture going out to the nation to mull over, with the inevitable comparisons made between "then" and "now" Disrespectful and crass.

It's also about consent.

To be honest I liked the photo. She looks so happy. At that age my mother in law - who did not have dementia - just looked permanently miserable.

Well of course I had a look, and I don't know what I was expecting really. However what I saw was the face of an older lady, full of joy and beautiful. That is the face her family loves. I rather think we should at least feel nothing negative looking at it.

I think it's a great photo. She looks very happy and definitely a glimpse of the old Bet Lynch. I don't think she'd give a hoot about people's overreactions. People with dementia don't need to be hidden away

So, they must not leave the house for fear someone might "see" them? Celebrity is as celebrity does. Trust the man who loves his wife to know her mind.

The thought of anyone 'knowing my mind' fills me with horror.
