Is it the "norm" to wear black in other countries? Or are you assuming that because it is that way in the UK it is the same everywhere.

At least five books were left out of the New Testament over a few hundred years AD.

Many Catholic Bibles do have 7 additional books.

Apart from the book commonly in use today, we have: Tobit, Judith, Sirach, Baruch, Wisdom, Maccabees 1 and Maccabees 2

Daddima I din't guess the twist when I read the book, although there was obviously something going on with him. I reread the end after watching the film and I realised they had changed it slightly, presumably to make it slightly less controversial in the current atmosphere.

I’m not RC but went to a RC convent school which left me very anti. However Pope Francis’ funeral ‘called’ to me in some strange way and I watched from start to finish. Maybe because he was such down to earth man of the people.
My observations were :

Relief that this man had been released from his obvious suffering despite plodding on to the end
Beautiful singing
Trump scrolling on his mobile
Cardinals and others taking photos
Pall bearers obviously struggling with the weight of the coffin
Melania Trump's dignity & sadness (as opposed to Donald’s lack of)
The view from above from the drone of black, red & white blocks of mourners.
The pause beside Pope Francis’ favourite icon in the Basilica of St Mary Major
The whole event was impeccably organised/choreographed & presumably well rehearsed in advance?

I understand that there is an arrest warrant awaiting Mr Putin should he set foot on European soil, so his absence was to be expected.
I thought the whole event moving and beautiful. Rome does this so well, but it does have quite a long history in this area...

Catholic Bibles, not protestant bibles, contain the apocryphal books - we don't doubt the books and writings authenticity.

However, when Martin Luther broke from The Church (which was suffering from 'bad' leadership), he made many changes to fit with his views.

If one were to attempt to condense his thesis to a few main points (as we learn in lessons) the points seem to be: (1) not in accepted scripture then not Biblical (our belief in purgatory is a good example). (2) Priesthood of all believers. (3) Salvation through faith, not works. (3) Salvation through grace alone.

Catholics have 7 Biblical sacraments, if I understand correctly many Christain Churches have only 2 sacraments - the other 5 are not in their gospel? Well, as noted our Bible contains more books and other works.

I discovered a while ago that priests were frequently married until at least the 11th C. Celibacy was considered 'honourable' but was a matter of choice.

(Obviously, most world wide 'Christianity' until the Reformation was Roman Catholicism. I'm not sure about the date of separation from what became the Orthodox branch)

So clearly there was no particular evidence that celibacy was demanded by the founders of Roman Catholic Christianity.

Wasn't it something to do with a big Church Meeting at Whitby in the 7th century where it was decided to include celibacy - up to then priests had wives and children I think the schism was between the Celtic and the Roman early church, with the Romans becoming the dominant force that insisted on celibacy.

From what I understand the Pope was a simple man and didn't like pomp. Perhaps he specified in his funeral plans, along with the instructions about the coffin etc, that he didn't want people in black. I know most of the funerals I've been to in the last few years have specified no black. My son-in-law actually asked everyone to wear Christmas jumpers for his funeral as it was so close to Christmas.

After all the hype and friends telling me how fantastic the film Conclave is, am I the only one that was disappointed?
It was pretty obvious from the onset who was going to end up being the Pope and from my catholic convent schooling I understand that nuns would be seen, not heard.
I did enjoy the film the Two Popes though

I loved both the book and the film Conclave.
I was not surprised that the film won awards for it's beauty: Sistine Chapel, progressions of cardinals in red silk, Rome itself- all absolutely gorgeous.

The film Conclave was great and I am sure the book will be too.

The film was made from the book. And then they did not have the manners to invite the author to the film premiere.
