Good Morning Bank Holiday Monday 26th May 2025
(51 Posts)Good morning from a damp Bristol. We’ve had a light shower overnight, but it much. No wind atm.
I was surprised when we sang the last hymn, trying to remember the unplaceable tune. Suddenly, it came to me; I had to control a giggle. “233 squadron”!
The rest of the day was quiet. I tried to sit in the sun, but the wind was far too strong.
Another empty day, just Tesco this morning.
Have a lovely bank holiday if you can. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
Good morning from a windy Malta where we expect a sunny day with a high of 27°C.
Yesterday’s Mass for DH was lovely as I was joined by DD3 and DGS2, his first time sitting through a service.
He was somewhat confused, having been told he must be very quiet, when we all started responding to the prayers. “Shush, Nana! Don’t talk!” poor little chap did very well though and went up with the other children for a blessing.
Later I watched the farewell tribute to Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros which had me in tears. What an athlete, he will be missed.
More tennis to watch later on today.
I’m off to watch the boys and will be taking them to nursery this afternoon, after which I have a nail appointment for fingers and toes.
Hoping you all have a good day.☀️
Do not let the devil have a good tune!
Now who said that ? Charles Wesley?
Have a good day everyone
Good morning from s somerset, cool and dull later
Yesterday was very busy, it just happens sometimes. The very strong wind gusts attacked my standard top heavy gooseberries, top heavy with tall thin stems and held up by posts. A very heavy laden branch broke off and I ended up out there andtook off half the top weight of each plant. No finesse about it, I just hacked them off. I rescued those fruits and ended up topping, tailing, washing and bagging 8lb
My 3 plants will live, still covered heavily in fruit but I am going to have to perform major surgery this winter, to repair the damage and to keep the plants compact next year
All I had planned yesterday was gentle sewing and sorting of tops. That will continue today and I may get to the plot on my bike in a couple of hours. I expect there will be damage on some plots. We have had very little rain these last few days, weather station said 1.6mm and the wind is cold
I am putting an extra blanket on my bed tonight, I do like linen and blankets in this variable weather
Have a good day
There's a 633 squadron March but how can you sing a hymn to that music?
Good morning from a fine and sunny Torbay although rain is forecast. Yesterday was rather breezy but dry.
Yesterday, I went to an audition for a small part in The Hollow, our Agatha Christie play this year. This was more in hope than expectation. Result awaited.
As part of the refurbishment of the harbour area in Torquay, this statue of Agatha Christie was recently unveiled with her beloved dog, Peter. It was created by a local artist (from Brixham): Elisabeth Hadley and has been well received, being the subject of photos in which people sit next to her.
Happy Bank Holiday, everyone! 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

It can be done, loopyloo! ! I’ve enjoyed singing this hymn to this rousing tune, with the words being based on Psalm 46:-

Good morning from a damp hillside in south Glos, more rain forecast for today.
Tiddler and I had a very pleasant early walk yesterday, nearly 4 miles and we only saw 1 person. There were young roe deer in the second field, where peas are growing this year, and two muntjac on the path through the woods. A lovely start to the day and we were back by 9.30 before DH left with bigger dog to go to the village.
I cleared the pile of ironing and the washing I hung outside dried well in the stiff breeze.
An afternoon in the summerhouse crocheting was very pleasant, tiddler kept me company as usual.
Today I want to do a longer walk along the green lane in the next village, maybe a coffee and cake on the way back to the car. I doubt that we’ll meet many people, it does seem that very few people walk for pleasure around here other than dog walkers.
Rarely do we see anyone with children out for a walk which is rather sad I feel- in fact I can’t remember the last time I did!
Have a lovely day 🌹
Morning Mick, morning All from a very damp and still draughty corner of Somerset.
Less windy than yesterday thankfully when our climbing roses continued to take a battering. A pink lawn is very pretty but I’d rather the petals stayed where they should be. Indoor jobs along with lots of messages about a poorly friend kept me occupied
A couple of garden repair jobs will wait until tomorrow. Off early today to family. The day was their choice. We couldn’t request a less busy motorway day as our son is doing some work on our car which thankfully will fit in his garage. An early start should see us avoiding busy traffic, or we hope it will
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° and sunny but it has been raining as the ground is wet and dark clouds are approaching. Ash fingers crossed for you. Bellasnana your dgs is a wee star.
Yesterday I had the boys for a few hours to let dd and Dsil deliver a wedding cake she had made. She was exhausted as she'd spent a lot of time on it. After a first communion cake this coming weekend, she's having a rest from baking for others. I'll get my KitchenAid back!
The boys were really funny. They stole my new hairbands and wore them. Dgs1 looked like an aging rock star. Their current enjoyment is drawing and cutting out shapes, so a lot of time was spent supervising scissors. They also made models from air dried clay of a helicopter, a ladybird and a horse - allegedly. After DD picked them up, I tidied up but didn't do much else.
Today I'm going to drive to Tesco. I have a few things to get and it'll be a good try out for my new vision. I'm attempting to empty my freezer so dinner will be mince and tatties. Not an early summer/late spring type of dinner, but I have both in the freezer. The rest of the day I will read and maybe knit. Have a good day all.
Just to be nit picking, is that not the dam busters March rather than 633 Squadron?
But great hymn I agree.
Nothing happening today. DH has had an ear infection but the pain has now stopped but he cannot hear anything. To audiologist tomorrow.
Have best possible day everyone
Good morning from a bright, breezy Durham. Home safely after a welcome break on Cyprus.
Obviously, a suitcase of clothes to launder awaits me - most of it unworn! Why do we always take far too much? Will catch up with this thread later.
Best wishes to all. X
Apologies. I did mean 633 squadron and it did work.
Good morning all from a very wet Glasgow, I can hear the rain bouncing off the conservatory roof! It is only 8°C, so back to warmer clothing.
Gosh Karma, I have two miniscule gooseberries on my bushes. I am envious.
Bella, you should have come to Mass at our parish. We now have a very multicultural congregation, where some children are indulged and rarely disciplined.
The older members of the congregation ( myself included) find it difficult to tolerate the behaviour, it can be so disrespectful at times.
In the past, the clergy would say something from the pulpit, but nowadays they are too afraid of upsetting some parents, who believe in gentle parenting. They never say, No to their children, just smile benevolently.
It was an extremely busy and long day yesterday, I fell asleep, when I got back from church, which was well into the afternoon.
I have no idea how I am going to get through he day with Babydoll, it is too wet to do anything and Silverburn and Braehead will be heaving due to the bank holiday and schools being off.
I expect BabyD to come minus half her clothes , her mum is away overnight with her own mum and sisters and DS is never organised at the best of times.
Late night, while watching the Chelsea Detective ( I really enjoy watching it) , I realised that I had lost half my tooth. I wasn't even eating anything. The very thought of the dentist poking about my extremely painful mouth, fills me with trepidation and dread.
I wish you al a pleasant day, whatever your plans.
Good morning from the Algarve. Today will be another hot day so heading to the beach with the little ones. It is lovely spending time here together.
I’m wondering how my garden is faring back home and thankfully I have a lovely neighbour keeping an eye on it.
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s sunny at the moment and not as windy so far! But that could all change as I think the forecast is for showers. I didn’t sleep very well last night, I do like this time of year when it starts to get light at 3.30 am, but wish I didn’t see it so often!
DD1 and family came over yesterday morning for a little while. They cut back the overhanging branches of my neighbour’s shrubs, which seem to have grown a lot since last summer. The wheeelie bin is almost full again, but still some room for more weeds. I did a little more gardening after they’d gone.
DD2 FaceTimed me late afternoon from a warm but cloudy Türkiye, it was lovely to see her and littlest. The seven year old has made a friend so is enjoying the pool with her.
A quiet day today, I’ll walk to the postbox and post a birthday card for one of my late DH’s great nephews. Then pack some stuff ready to go to DD1s tomorrow for a couple of days dog sitting.
MD I hope you think of something to occupy Babydoll today.
cornergran I hope the traffic isn’t too bad today and that you have a good family get together.
Have a good Bank Holiday Monday everyone (if it’s a Bank Holiday where you are).
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a dry bright start to the day with rain in the forecast later
Fingers crossed for you Ash
I’m off to the gym today for a couple of classes, then a bit of food shopping and back home this afternoon
Enjoy your walking Roses sounds good
Have a lovely time everyone out and about on holiday and safe travels
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good morning, I didn’t sleep well, and have a headache. I hope it doesn’t develop into a fully blown migraine.
Nothing planned.
Love the bench Ashcombe
Enjoy the day🙋♀️
Good morning all fromca bright North Leicestershire.
We are all off to DD1's for lunch - well not DDS1 as he has covid. DD3 will go home from there and we will come home to a peaceful but messy house
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The sun is up in South Yorkshire. The strong winds yesterday blew one of my potted roses over. Cracked the pot but fortunately didn’t damage the rose which was one I planted for DH the year he died. We had some extremely heavy rain yesterday evening, which looked for all the world like hail. Dinner with the family was lovely. GS took half of his pie home because he couldn’t eat it all, and a large piece of strawberry tart. Nothing on my agenda today except to cut the front lawn if it stays dry, and maybe wash the car.
If I may wade in on the hymn tune - the one that Ash posted the link to is definitely The Dambusters March. I think 633 Squadron is far too energetic for a hymn tune😁!
Have the best day you can folks.
Marydoll we have some of ‘those’ parents and I agree, it’s so distracting.
Our church is a lovely, airy modern space and there is a lovely ‘crying room’ which has a glass wall so parents can still follow the service which is piped into the large room but the cries of babies and children cannot be heard by the congregation.
Believe it or not it is hardly used despite the Priest’s gentle reminders to please make use of it.
I hope you manage to get through the day with Babydoll. It’s the opposite here, already too hot to take them out so they are tearing around the place on their little cars. It’s going to be a long day!😅
Good morning from South Lanarkshire. I’m really not enjoying the return of the rain.
We had a lovely afternoon with DS’s family yesterday. There was only them, us, DD and two of her children plus one other child from nursery and his parents.
The children ran in and out avoiding the sudden heavy showers but had a lot of fun.
The drive over though, was horrible with massive delays on the way, the cause of which wasn’t apparent.
I’m meeting my fellow counter from church this morning to tally up as I was in a huge rush to get away yesterday.
I’ve a nail appointment later and that’s about the size of the day.
Wishing everyone the best day possible.
Morning Mick and All from a sunny south bucks.
Bella I too watched Rafa’s Farewell to Roland Garros and was in tears. No one will replace him in my opinion.
Off to a local Art Exhibition today.
Bellasnana, the church I was married in fifty years ago had one of those. It was a fairly new building then.
