Fed up of the Beckhams

Everywhere you look online you are constantly reminded of the rift with their oldest son Brooklyn. As if it wasn’t enough to keep seeing Victoria Beckham scowling at the cameras and what she’s wearing.

Maggiemaybe An empathetic post. Well said.

The reason why the Beckham spat has garnered so much interest is because the fall out dynamics between adult children and their spouses resonate with so many in everyday life. In that I sympathise it's a horrible situation for anyone, the fear it could become permanent. Their troubles are magnified possibly because they put themselves under the spotlight. Brooklyn in particular has on occasions been subject to ridicule not least of all for being offered a publication for his photos by Random House at aged 18. Those were deemed very amateur. When he dropped out of his arts course after only a year again lots of public commens of 'can't stick at anything' but....he was only doing what thousands of his peer group do, trying to find his way, but his failings are amplified, they wouldn't have been if he had been allowed a private life and not micro managed from an early age. Parental manipulation at its worst is often exemplified in the entertainment world, pity poor Britany Spears. There is also an inevitability that a partner will maybe exercise their influence contrary to a parent, I suspect given hints in some of his and Nicola's posts thats what has happened. Parents going head to head with a spouse are more likely to be the loosers. Best to retreat into a private space and rebuild the relationship from there.

Fed up WITH
Not of!

YES! You are right.

AuntieE Thu 29-May-25 13:27:44

Excuse me for asking, but if you truly are fed up of the Beckhams or anyone else who is constantly mentioned in the media, why do you not just stop reading about them?

Crossstitchfan Thu 29-May-25 15:45:31

Are you being facetious?? 😂

Iam64 Thu 29-May-25 15:54:13

AuntieE, I didn’t read your comment as facetious. I’d had similar thoughts 🌞

That's far too obvious 😁

Maelil I was just going to mention that but thought it a bit rude to do so. I thought there was a tacit agreement on GN not to highlight others’ mistakes .

Unfortunately, only the bad or contentious things get reported. I recall David Beckham stopping to assist someone whose car had broken down, and little snippets from local, Hertfordshire papers telling of how they helped with funding for a child to go to the US for medical care, etc.

Skydancer Thu 29-May-25 17:55:04

Well if nobody mentioned anything that annoys or irritates them there’d be very little on Gransnet.

Jane43 Thu 29-May-25 19:18:46

I have always thought of them as rather a lovely family.

Iam64 Fri 30-May-25 08:20:42

They’ve stuck together as a married couple and parents despite the huge pressures of living such public lives.

PS Crosstitchfan, he looked to be ageing very attractively!

He is! I have no problem with him, other than he has no taste in women! 😂

Victoria has been a very loyal wife, the documentary about him on Netflix shows that.

Surely David has made enough millions to not need to do adverts.
I saw a new one with him a couple of days ago.
I think it was for a soft drink.

He's "been doing"adverts for decades, apart from the £millions he earns he enjoys it. He's 50 years old and
supports many charities, The King's Foundation and UNICEF but two, he is one of the Times top 100 philanthropists 2025. He's 50 years old it'll be very interesting to see what else he achieves in his life.
The more he earns the more he can redistribute. The higher his profile the more awareness and funds he can raise for the charities he supports.

Well done to him then and I’m sorry for misjudging him.

I think there is quite a bit of snobbery towards them. They are from ordinary working class backgrounds and are people who have worked hard to get to where they are. None of it was inherited. Neither of them claim to be academically intelligent. Their taste isn't my taste. But so what? They are being who they are. I thinks it's admirable that they have stayed married against the odds.

I agree about the snobbery and they didn't have the kind of wealth and upbringing their children have. Victoria's parents did own a Rolls Royce and were quite affluent.

Says a lot about the Daily Mail readership Sadgrandma.

I agree Franski - I think it's weird the way it becomes trendy to dislike particular celebrities for a while (I mean trendy in the media). Then it moves on to someone else who happens to be in the news.

I read somewhere that the fallout between the Beckham family and the Peltz family was because Brooklyn's in-laws wanted to buy the huge house they live in for them. The Beckhams weren't happy about all the money being showered on Brooklyn and they wanted him to actually work for a living.

I admire them both for the way they built their careers and lives and kept their family together and reasonably sane despite all the attention. So what if VB rarely smiles in photos - I hate having photos taken and sometimes actually look like I'm scowling more than smiling. And if I new the photo was being taken so someone could take potshots at me from behind a desk I probably would be scowling.
