Avoid Wetherspoons full stop! Dreadful place but each to their own I suppose.

But they vary so much.

We avoid ours generally as it's mediocre and I could name a couple of dreadful ones but others are good.

I love Wetherspoons. Cheap food and drink, interesting buildings, hardworking staff. We have even stayed in their hotels. They are great. There's a lot of snobbery attached to Wetherspoons.

And in addition, no 'musak' and if there is a tv it's on silent.

Wetherspoons are preferable to the trendy overpriced alternatives - good food at affordable prices and for anyone needing company they do refillable tea/coffee for about £1.50 so people can sit and chat to their friends
Just find a seat away from the screen

Im a spoons fan because I can go there with friends and familyof any age ,they have good disabled facilities the drink is cheap and the food is on par with other chain pubs but considerably cheaper My church holds a coffee club meeting in one of the Glasgow spoons every Wednesday

You’ll be fine , Wetherspoons usually only have one tv per pub and the sound is muted. No self respecting football fan will be there.

I seem to remember a thread like this last time there was a big England football match on.
Most of the Wetherspoons we go to don’t have TV screens and those that do have the sound turned off. Football fans don’t seem to congregate in Wetherspoon pubs. There’s no ‘piped’ music either.
All our family like going to ‘Spoons. My son and family recently went to London during half term and counted 5 Wetherspoon pubs during their trip on the Open top pub 😂.

Yes, Tim Martin' politics are typical of brewery owners, and he supported Brexit. And he mouthed off in-advisably at the beginning of COVID lockdown (though the quickly recanted).

I’ve no problem with him talking about the problems of running a pub; his area of expertise. What I object to is that, for a period of time the news media were asking him for advice on everything and the advice he gave was rubbish and, imo, detremental to the running of this country.

We avoid like the plague it’s not snobbery just a dislike of sticky carpets and tables plus there are some rather unsavoury characters that frequent there. Our DGD worked there for a few months and caught an old man videoing her as she was waiting tables. To be fair the manager and door staff on viewing their cctv barred him from going in again.

Ziggy Just don’t have a drink at the Sunderland Empire. We went there for a show & at the interval the bar was practically empty.
We soon found out why. My small glass of white wine cost over £10 😮😮😮
All the locals were in the auditorium with their own drinks, flasks of tea, little bottles etc.
I emailed the Empire to complain about the bar prices & was told it was because they were part of a consortium and had to charge London prices 😮😡

My default setting is to avoid them.

Exactly, Ziggy. Ours closed and lots of people go to the Leytonstone one now.
The carpets are Axminsters specially woven for that pub.
