Good morning from a grey Bristol. We have been promised rain, but none ha# fallen yet.
Iris has had her operation late yesterday afternoon. The surgeon was very happy with how it went. Now, we’re just hoping that the antiemetics work, as she’s not usually very well from the anaesthesia.
The problem will be getting her up and down stairs as both her knees have been “done”, and, of corse, pressure on them is not recommended or pain-free. Their loos are on the first floor or the basement…. We shall see.
The FAB cafe went well, although not many attended. The book group was good as well - our next book is “True Grit”!
I also collected my new sunglasses. I can see with them”. Hurray. I didn’t have new ones after my first cataract, so they were not very helpful!
Today, I’ve got nothing except tai chi, which I enjoy very much.
May your day go well. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Bellasnana Thu 12-Jun-25 05:30:36

Good morning from Malta where it is expected to reach 36°C today.

Yesterday brought sad news as my brother in law in Kent died aged 76. It was not expected and he was found by his youngest son. 😞

He was the brother I never had, I was only 14 when he and my sister started dating, he had no family apart from his mum so he embraced ours and we had many years of happy times.

My sister died almost nine years ago and I think he died with her in some respects as he hasn’t been the same without her. I hope they are reunited now.😢

I’m off to look after my two treasures. Will decide what to do with them later, probably bring them home and get the paddling pool out again. It’s super-hot now.🥵

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Bellasnana Thu 12-Jun-25 05:33:14

grandMattie glad to hear all went well with Iris’s op yesterday. I hope she will feel better soon, bless her. She’s been through such a lot in her short lifetime.

Aldom Thu 12-Jun-25 05:35:32

Bellasnana flowers Such a shock and sadness for you. My sincere condolences.

grandMattie Thu 12-Jun-25 05:48:18

I’m so sad for you, bellasnana. Suddenly deaths are so hard to come to terms with. My deepest condolences.💐🌷

Georgesgran Thu 12-Jun-25 05:50:46

Good Morning from a bright, dry Durham. Other than taking Little Dog out, I have an empty. I’m happy with that, as I’ve had a really busy week.
Glad Iris’s op went to plan gM and she recovers well.
Hope Marydoll is ok - I don’t think she posted yesterday.
💐Bellasnana such sad news - my sincere condolences.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning Mick and everyone from a bright morning in Cheshire. I didn't manage to see the strawberry moon. I kept looking out last night and the night before, but not visible from here.

It is sad to lose and old friend, Bellasnana. A happy time with the children will restore your mood for a while.

Yesterday I worked the garden and I've been awake since 2.30 with aches. I should know better than to try to make up for several rainy days in one day. I made pot puree with the rose petals fallen in the strong winds. My DD walked in and asked why I was cooking roses. They turned quite dark, so I added some 'uncooked' petals to make the mixture prettier in the dishes. I had pale pink, deep pink and yellow petals.

This morning is painting group and acupuncture this afternoon where I shall probably fall asleep!

Have a good day everyone. Special thoughts for those with sadness. flowers

Grammaretto Thu 12-Jun-25 06:12:05

Good morning all from the Scottish Highlands. I'm staying with DD listening to the cock crowing.

Last night we went to the theatre in Pitlochry to watch a play about the Scottish writer Nan Shepherd. We both enjoyed it. It was so nice driving back in the light.

So very sad to lose your brother Bellasnanna. flowers

I'm glad Iris has come through her operation well. She is such a brave young girl. gMattie

My 2 DGD will be singing at the Gaelic Mòd tomorrow. This is the Provincial competition not the National I am very proud. I won't be there unfortunately but I have heard them.

Hope everyone has some joy today.
The pictures are the river Tummel from the wobbly bridge.

Grandmabatty Thu 12-Jun-25 06:32:33

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and cloudy. It feels warm (for me). Bellasnana I'm really sorry to hear about your sad news. He sounds like a lovely man. GrandMattie good news about Iris. Fingers crossed she doesn't suffer too much sickness. Grammaretto gorgeous photos of the river.
Yesterday morning was busy. I had done a wash and hung it out early, then emptied and loaded the dishwasher. I worked in the school library for an hour before heading to dds house to wait for a mattress delivery. While there, I hung out her washing which had been draped over radiators, and did her dishes. Once the mattress was delivered, I nipped into Tesco to look at their summer clothes. It was fairly disappointing because they had a lovely selection but not many in my size. Because I'm short, their crop trousers reached my ankles. Back home to hoover and potter about.
Today I'm doing an hour in the school library then home for a Tesco delivery. My friend has been making noises about meeting up, but I don't have a lot of time. She would need picked up and taken home again afterwards, so I'm not sure what we'll do. The rest of the day will be prepping the house for a week of inactivity, after the cataract surgery tomorrow. Dinner tonight will be ham salad. Have a good day all

RosieandherMaw Thu 12-Jun-25 06:33:14

Good morning from N Bucks where it is sunny but sticky and with a warm wind. Not sure it will be such a good day, I believe we may get thunder.
Such sad news Bellasnana and what a shock for his family. flowers
The little boys will lift your spirits I hope, there is something reassuring in being with little ones, something to do with the continuity of life perhaps?
I have Arts Society this morning but for the life of me can’t remember what the topic is, it will just have to be a lovely (?) surprise.
Nice to see BlueSapphire again yesterday and hear about her last cruise - lunch and a wine at the usual place.
I am so glad Iris has this op behind her Grandmattie , but oh dear re the loo situation, it is something we think about for post-op our age , and I hope they find a solution.
Did anybody else watch “Race Across The World” last night? No spoiler, but I was very happy at the outcome.
Wishing you all a pleasant day.

grandMattie Thu 12-Jun-25 06:35:00

Oh, Grandmabatty, Im so envious. I do wish everything was “too long” for me. My problem is the absolute opposite…. Waists in my armpits, midi-skirts above the knee, etc.

Ashcombe Thu 12-Jun-25 06:37:32

Good morning from a damp and dreary Torbay.

Yesterday, I managed to complete various errands in town, including booking seats on the train for our planned trip to see the family this month. In Waterstones, I was delighted to find a very suitable book on ballet by Darcy Bussell, published by Dorling Kindersley for my DGD. Many give flowers after a performance but I prefer a more lasting memento. Overall, I walked about two miles, according to my phone app. After four weeks, the genicular nerve block is still helping my arthritic knee I’m pleased to say.

I hope recovery goes to plan for Iris; perhaps a commode could be borrowed temporarily?
My condolences to you, Bellasnana. ✝️ So much harder when I guess you won’t have seen your brother in law for some years.
Lovely photographs, Grammaretto!

Have as good a day as circumstances allow. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Last December, when I was temporarily unable to walk easily, various items were freely provided and were collected once I had recovered.

Good morning from mid Essex, where we have light winds and sunshine at the moment. Who knows what the weather will do today, the local forecast is dry, but the national forecast says thunderstorms! I hope it stays dry as I’m going to the 100th birthday party of a relative. It’s a lunch party in a marquee in her garden!
grandmattie I’m pleased that Iris’s operation went well yesterday and hope that her recovery is quick and that she’s not in too much pain.
bellasnana I’m sorry to hear about your brother in law, a shock for you and his family.
ashcombe well done for your walk yesterday.
I won’t go for my usual walk this morning as no doubt there’ll be a lot of standing around at the party and my back can’t cope with being upright for too long!

Have the best day you can everyone.

Grandmabatty Thu 12-Jun-25 07:06:24

GrandMattie I always wanted to be taller. I'm small and round. The petite sizes do me lengthwise but are usually too tight. 🙄

Greyduster Thu 12-Jun-25 07:11:06

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a hazy South Yorkshire. We are set for at least a sunny morning. It was so hot again yesterday that I was glad to be inside at the library with the writers group yesterday. There were only a few of us yesterday but it was fun.

I did something monumentally stupid yesterday morning. I opened the tap on my water butt to run some into an overflow tub (makes it easier to fill the watering can). Then I walked away - and forgot to go back and close it!! By the time I came home in the afternoon the butt which had been three quarter full, was empty. I now only have what is in the overflow tub which is not a lot. The rest soaked into the ground. I’m hoping we shall get some rain this evening. I’m getting so absent minded these days it's starting to worry me.

Walking group today, and as DD and the menfolk are away for a few days, I will come straight home rather than calling on them for lunch.
Bellasnana my condolences💐.
Have the best day you can folks.

Gingster Thu 12-Jun-25 07:12:53

Good morning all and we’re due to have a good day, weatherwise. Not too hot. - ( 36degrees ,*Bella*,! I would curl up and die). My ds1 and family are holidaying in Malta next month, none of them are keen on the heat! 😳.

I’m picking up DGD for school this morning as Dd has an early appointment at the hospital. She will sleep over here tonight, after Brownies, as Dd has another appointment tomorrow morning.
DIL is now doing the hospital rounds with scans, consultations, blood tests etc. She is lucky that our son takes time off work to accompany her. Dd does everything on her own 😢.

Dh is breakfasting with his two old school pals and I will do some much needed housework with him out of the way.

Hopefully Iris will recover well 🙏.
Bellasnanna sorry to hear your sad news.🙏

Hoping you all have a good day.

Marydoll Thu 12-Jun-25 07:15:51

Good morning all from a sunny Glasgow, where it is 15°c. A hot day with showers is predicted.

My sincere condolences Bella,

Grammaretto, that is a favourite walk of ours, but the bridge terrifies me. SIL, delights on jumping on it, while DD and I are clutching each other in fear.

My dentist appointment went just as expected. I need a crown, but the dentist said she could not consider any dental work in the near future, given the condition of my mouth.
She was shocked to see how bad it was, counting at least eight lesions, This morning, there is a new one in my throat.😪
The dentist was extremely gentle and patched up the cracked tooth, which was catching on an ulcer, Also, gave me a number to phone to chase up my urgent referral.
Unfortunately, it was not the appropriate number, but the person I spoke to gave me the correct one. It rang out for most of the day, I will have another attempt today.

On my way back to my car, on my way to the baker's to buy a rhubarb pie for DH, I passed the hospice charity shop. Since DH was not with me, I decided to pop in. I was greeted by the most delightful young man, a solicitor, who volunteers one day a week.
We got chatting (well, mainly him, I have no voice) and he started showing me items, asking what I thought, saying, You look as if you can spot designer items. 🤣
He then invited me into the storeroom to see the stock and asked if I would like to come and help him sort the costume jewellery on Saturday!
Just as I was leaving, I spotted a new and expensive broderie anglais dress, complete with labels, Nobody's Child. It was not cheap, but my new friend gave it to me for half price.
It fits perfectly!

I popped in to church to label prizes and see if I could spot any winners at the funeral. To my surprise, one of the fête committee appeared to help me.
I had said on the committee chat, that I could no longer be involved to the same extent and physical tasks were not an option.. Making that decision has been difficult.
I look so well, that no-one realises how ill I am and it embarrasses me to tell people.😪

Today we have Babydoll, but no gadding about. We will go to the horsey field, look at the sheep and cows and a shot on the swings.
The rest of the day will be spent in the garden, playing boules and skiddling about in the water!

Like Dollie, she loves pancakes for breakfast, with any soft, clothes staining fruit. Last week her pyjamas were purple. Thank goodness for Vanish.🤣

I wish you all a pleasant day, and hugs for all, who are struggling.🥰

EkwaNimitee Thu 12-Jun-25 07:16:11

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle.
Yesterday my weather station told me we had reached 23°C.
I was working out in the garden after lunch and the sun was burning the back of my neck. After an hour, I'd had enough!
Sadly, I had to remove one of my lovely shrub roses, a beautiful single yellow-flowered one called Canary Bird. Last year it flowered profusely in the early spring but gradually over the summer seemed to succumb to what I diagnosed as rose die back. Two branches remained this year and gave a few poor flowers, then those branches too started showing signs of disease so out it all had to go.
Another odd thing out there...I've had a few days of bumblebees staggering around on the ground. I've tried my usual trick of reviving them with honey (I had this problem in a former conservatory) but only one was interested. That one perked up enough to spread its wings and try to lift off but couldn't. What is wrong, I wonder? It's not one species but several.

Today I must pop into town for a prescription and will probably be tempted into M&S's food hall....I have to pass it on my way back to my car and I'm weak at the thought of certain items! On my return, ironing and bathroom cleaning await but may well yield to gardening.

Best wishes to Iris for a speedy recovery. I hope the toilet situation can be made easier for her.

Bella that is so sad for you, a dear family member lost...My condolences.

luluaugust Thu 12-Jun-25 07:22:15

Good morning from a sunny W Kent. Off to art group this morning whilst DH entertains the gardener. We are wondering whether to go to our favourite garden, decision to be made later.
Glad Iris is through the op
Sorry to hear about your BIL Bellasnana
Best wishes

Good morning everyone from Inverness where another warm day is forecast
Sorry to hear that news Bellas so sad 💐
Pleased to hear all went well for Iris gMattie wishing her a speedy recovery, such a brave girl
We’ve DGD here, she’s still asleep but will have to wake her soon for school. After dropping her off I’m going to a new venue for an aerobics class with my pal and then coffee afterwards. This afternoon will probably be spent doing some gardening with DH
Beautiful photos grammaretto and well done to your DGDs, I hope it goes well for them both
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning from bright and sunny South Lanarkshire.

I’m so sorry for your loss Bellasnana. flowers

Best wishes for Iris’s recovery Mattie, she’s a brave girl.

Well done to your GDDs Grammaretto, beautiful photos.

Snap Grandmabatty, I also hung out washing and did the dishes at DS’s house before going to collect the older two children. We took them to the beach for ice cream then they spent a good half hour in the playground while DH and I drank coffee and gazed at the sea. I picked up the little one from his nursery on the way back, I always struggle putting the buggy up but the staff are very helpful.

Today we’re off to stay at DD’s with her children and pets whilst DD and DSiL have a rare weekend away. DD’ s job necessitates her being in London for several days each month and DSiL is joining her this evening as she loves cricket and she’s got tickets for Lords tomorrow. Too bad you’re away Kalu, we could have had a coffee.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

RosesandLilac Thu 12-Jun-25 07:27:57

Good morning, it’s grey and dull here in south Glos, we didn’t see much sun yesterday either.
Sending my condolences and love to you Bellasnana 🤗
I hope Iris recovers quickly grandMattie, a very plucky young lady 🙏
Re clothes grandMattie, I’m very long-waisted and so many waisted dresses come up under my boobs 😵‍💫. The one I wore yesterday looks silly but it’s comfortable and I’m too old to worry about what others think of me!

Yesterday was quiet, I did dig up some bits for my friend’s dd who’s gradually filling her new garden, it’s been professionally designed and built and is gorgeous.

Someone on the village facebook had a grass snake in their front porch yesterday, we see one in our pond and I have resident slow worms in my compost bins so I can’t empty them!
I spent an hour messing around and rearranging my two little ‘greenhouses’ yesterday, very mucky work but satisfying, a little thing but satisfying nonetheless. I realised I’d put the cover on back to front (or rather the frame was the wrong way round) which was rather silly 🙄, not particularly bright of me! It’s been like that for 12 months!
Anyway, all sorted.

I hope today goes well for you all 🌹

cornergran Thu 12-Jun-25 07:58:15

Morning Mick, morning All from a damp, grey corner of Somerset, storms in the forecast

Enjoyed coffee yesterday morning before an excellent couple of hours on the sea front mostly sitting people watching in the warm sunshine, just right for us.

On the way back to the car I spotted a top which is just the right colour for the purpose, my search is over. Mr C is mightily relieved.

Looking out before bed we were transfixed by the bats swooping around the trees by the river. The first time we’ve seen them this year.

An indoor day today, a long list of this and that for me, a couple of phone calls to make to poorly folk and one due from our goddaughter. Mr C is looking forward to a quiet day.

Condolences bellasnanna, sad news. I hope iris is comfortable and practicalities at home can be overcome.

Have the best day you can everyone.
