Apparently a lip-reader believed she had seen the King saying something was ‘a disgrace’. I was intrigued although it may not be correct. I wonder if he was referring to the anti-monarchist demonstrators. If he was, I agree with him. I know not everyone is in favour of the monarchy but their shouting was rude and horrible, especially if they did it as the children passed by, and they certainly startled some of the horses. I think the police should have moved them on.

I watched it after reading your post OP and I don’t understand what you mean.

I would say almost everyone looks “ serious “ when they are not smiling , but that’s not to say that we feel/ are serious it’s the way human faces tend look . We can’t all be happy & smiling every minute of every hour , there comes a time when we need to relax our faces . . Poor Queen Camilla being pulled apart just because she can’t keep smiling all through the Trooping of the Colour . Has anyone ever kept smiling all through a “ happy “ event like “ mother of the bride “ at wedding for instance just so that everyone thinks that they are happy and enjoying every minute of every hour of the day . I don’t think it’s humanly possible .

Sorry, slightly off-piste. I really, really dislike the latest trend of lip reading everything being said. Isn't it enough that people can tear apart their relationships, their clothes, the way they walk and talk, without knowing every word they utter. It's not as if any of them is going to say 'I never said that, what I said was...'

To me it's the equivalent of listening in on a phone call, or reading someone's text messages, or hiding behind the door to overhear a conversation. Just because we can, doesn't mean we have to do.

In that case she shouldn’t wear red - Labour, blue - Conservatives, yellow - Lib Dem’s, green - for the greens etc. …

I work on the elections and we have to be very careful what we wear. (No red, pink, yellow, orange, green, purple, blue - Now turquoise is off the permitted colours too.

I am not a Royal ist but I did think that Princess Kate looked lovely. Turquoise may be the colour of Reform (odd choice for a political party, don't you think?) but it really suited her.

The King didn't look frail for his age and ill health he looked pretty good, and the Queen didn't look furious! A bit solemn maybe, but nothing wrong in that. I agree about the protesters, it's the sight and rudeness of these people that makes me and my family staunch royalists. I think the late Queen and P.P would feel very proud of Charles, as he has certainly inherited her stoicism and tenacity for the job he now has. I certainly feel proud of them both.

I'm another one who was told 'Cheer up, it might never happen!' That was at a party, when I was feeling perfectly happy. It's the way my face goes. If Camilla smiled all the time people would say she was grinning like an idiot. Look at the flak poor Karmala Harris got.

I agree that this latest habit of lip reading is pretty dreadful, particularly in the case of children. I can't understand newspapers accepting this obvious invasion of privacy, but of course money is king!!!

Who can say ‘untrue’ when a newspaper prints ‘lip reader said etc ‘ ?

As someone who is a pretty adept lip reader, having been hearing impaired from childhood, I have to say that anyone who claims they can lip read a passing comment caught on camera, is talking rubbish.😬

The shape and motion of the lips are only a part of speech in English and lip reading is rather misnamed because it relies on other facial features, expressions and gestures as well as a ckear, close view view of the mouth.

What is also needed is context because many different words will will produce the same lip shapes and many sounds have no lip shape at all.

One of my favourite stories is a deaf person at a family dinner who said “This is delicious, what is it?” as one by one her family gaped at her across the table.

As she said afterwards, If only they had said, “Its hare, not rabbit I would have got it.” Everyone just telling her Hare was no help.
