Paul McCartney is 83 today. Where on earth did that time go?

Beechnut Wed 18-Jun-25 13:40:25

Across the Universe 😃

Beechnut Wed 18-Jun-25 13:42:55

And took us on a Magical Mystery Tour.

Maremia Wed 18-Jun-25 13:45:43

to Penny Lane

Ringo will be 85 next month.shock

It only seems a short while ago that we were dancing to "Please Please Me" in the school hall during a wet break.

I still love their music.

It is sad that John died so young and George died before he reached 60.

As a teen, my friends and I went to see them at several local concerts. It was just as they were becoming well known, and the music was electric!

We could hardly hear a thing for girls screaming, but I remember those concerts so well.

I'll tell you something - that Paul McCartney was a silly boy. If he'd have played his cards right he could have been mine. gringrin

Clawdy Wed 18-Jun-25 14:21:23

No, mine!!

Kate1949 Wed 18-Jun-25 14:25:02

George was the same. For some inexplicable reason he chose a blonde, leggy model rather than searching the back streets of Birmingham looking for me. confused

HelterSkelter1 Wed 18-Jun-25 14:26:09

I saw them at the Winter Gardens Margate in 1963. Couldnt hear a word for the screaming! And that was me!
I also saw Paul waiting at the back of the audience for a play in which Jane Asher was appearing at the Marlow Theatre Canterbury. Such exciting times seems only Yesterday.

We won’t ever again see the like of The Beatles and the other amazing 60s bands.

TerriBull Wed 18-Jun-25 16:03:34

They shaped my childhood, there were the pre 1963 years, a desolate musical wilderness, sorry Elvis fans, I was too young to appreciate the wonder of him back then, I came to later though. Then they arrived, Love Me Do followed by yeah! yeah! yeah!. 7 brief years, but it seemed so much longer back then...and musically how they evolved. They put little old England right at the epicentre of the swinging sixties.

Kate1949 Wed 18-Jun-25 16:09:46

Like the lady on the TV ad says 'Before The Beatles my life was in black and white. After them it was in colour.'

Oreo Wed 18-Jun-25 16:12:50

The Beatles were before my time really as I was a young child but loved their music anyway, tho some songs more than others.
My favourites are The Fool On The Hill, Let It Be , Hey Jude and The Long and Winding Road.Guess I like the ballads the best.

FishandChips15 Wed 18-Jun-25 16:19:36

I went to Heathrow to meet them. There were ten of us from school with our Welcome Home banner on the Queens building and then chasing their car down the tunnel. Happy times.

NanKate Wed 18-Jun-25 16:32:07

A boyfriend queued for hours for tickets for us to see the Beatles in Birmingham. The noise of the audience was overwhelming and men with batons were walking down the aisles threatening us 😳It was a great evening. I think Dusty Springfield was a supporting act and maybe the chap who sang ‘Rubber Ball’. Happy memories.

Patsy70 Wed 18-Jun-25 16:54:45

Seems like only ‘Yesterday’. Still love listening to their music.🎸🎶. We’ve been to see the Bootleg Beatles a few times, who give a great performance. Happy Birthday, Sir Paul.

Kate1949 Wed 18-Jun-25 16:55:46

Oh that's awful men with batons Kate. I saw them a few times in Birmingham and never saw that. Mind you I was oblivious to anything else but The Beatles.

kittylester Wed 18-Jun-25 17:17:04

How did I guess that this thread was started by you, Kate.grin

I love the quote. Music was definitely black and white before the Beatles.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 18-Jun-25 17:23:17

Mr McCartney funds a college in Liverpool supporting young people in music and the performing arts. He appears each year for prize-giving.
He is a good man - and still rocking it ( on stage with Bruce Springsteen this month).
I wonder which other musicians will have such longevity and such a legacy?
Maybe just the splendid Dolly Parton!

I saw The Beatles when they were the supporting act!
The main acts faded into oblivion 😁

Happy birthday, Sir Paul.

kittylester Wed 18-Jun-25 17:30:13

Er, I think the Stones are still around, chocolatelovinggran.

Allira Wed 18-Jun-25 17:33:00

We saw a Beatles Tribute Band called the Beatnix in Darling Harbour years ago. They were brilliant, probably, the most authentic tribute band.

Kate1949 Wed 18-Jun-25 17:33:18

I knew you'd know kitty grin I say to my DH 'I'm a bit obsessed.'. He rolls his eyes and says 'There's no 'a bit' about it'. blush

Ooh me too! We bunked off school which was very daring as it was a very old fashioned strict grammar school. Took our ties off, hitched our skirts up and applied out Max Factor pan stick and Rimmel eye liner on the train.

When it was shown on the news I almost wet myself in case I was on it and my Mum & Dad saw me.

To this day, whenever I see that clip I still get butterflies in my tummy thinking I'm going to be found out grin
