My older brother was a professional musician and told me he was in the same barbers as them one day. I was furious that he hadn’t got the cut hair off the barber to give to me but he wouldn’t have wanted to seem a fan I suppose, male pride and all that.

We saw a Beatles Tribute Band called the Beatnix in Darling Harbour years ago. They were brilliant, probably, the most authentic tribute band.

Reminds me of a Beatles tribute band we saw in Menorca.
They were Chinese with Beatle haircuts. You can imagine what their singing was like. 🤣

Their rendition of “yellow Submarine” will stay with me forever. 😉

The Beatnix were definitely a Fab Four!

I too would relive the 60s especially with the clothes, which I didn’t have many but still remember my favourite dress and shoes.

I have The Beatle's autographs in my very old autograph book.
I know they are genuine as my father was a policeman (officer!) on duty when they were filming A Hard Day's Night and handed it over and watched them sign in front of him. Oh, how I wish I'd been there.

Completely agree. My parents were poor as church mice but I had wonderful times playing in the woods, picking primroses, riding an old secondhand bike Dad found for me, charging round on my rollerskates.

Aged 14 and a half, I was legally allowed to work 4 hours, so I got a Saturday job and could buy records with my meagre earnings!!! The simple joy. As you say, listening to half a dozen in a booth, then buying one (or sometimes nothing at all )

Listening to Radio Luxembourg on Sunday nights to find out what was No. 1 in the charts.

And the clothes!! I bought children's skirts - no VAT on them and they fitted perfectly and were very mini. The joy of saving up for my first pair of knee length boots.

I have always loved The Beatles, even more so as I marvel now at the lyrics.
Why do people say “they were before my time” or I was only a child? Surely if you remember it then it was and is your time

I agree with you about the lyrics Grandmaderby. When I was a besotted fan, I didn't notice the lyrics. It's only when I listen now that I marvel at how such young men had the perception to write such lyrics in, to name just two, She's Leaving Home and Eleanor Rugby.

I was once at a concert where a Beatles tribute band was playing. I got talking to a young girl who was a distant relative of John Lennon. I was impressed, but not half as impressed as she was when I told her I had seen the Beatles several times. She was far too young to have seen any of their gigs.

That's a lovely feeling Deedaa. I love telling younger fans that I saw them several times, had George chat to a small group of us and gave a photo of myself and a few others on stage with them. A show off? Moi? Yes definitely in this case.

I saw the Beatles in 1963 too at Finsbury Park in London. There was so much screaming it was impossible to hear them.

Saw the stones too in London possibly the next year and got chatted up outsude the theatre by mick and the others. Didn’t realise who they were until they appeared on stage.

I admit I'm a bit jealous of those of you that had seen them live! I was born in 61, so by the time I was actually paying attention to music on the radio would be the late 60's.

I do remember singing in the back of the car with my siblings on road trips, I Love You, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Always had a crush on Paul, my DH mentioned my boyfriend was getting a bit old looking. I was thinking:

If I'd been out till quarter to three,
Would you lock the door?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty four? Ooh

They were ground-breaking - we were so lucky to be in our prime then.

It is worth finding a stream of McCartney's Liverpool Oratorio - it is extraordinary.

Will never be bettered. On the fabulous cake that growing up in the 60's represented, The Beatles were definitely the cherry on top!

I saw them (and heard them) before it all kicked off, sitting middle of the front row at George's feet. Will never forget that.
Only this morning was listening to Ringo singing 'Photograph', in memory of his old chum, George, at the Royal Albert Hall 'Concert for George' held on the first anniversary of his death.

Not very long ago on GN I agreed to relinquish my 'claim' on George and placed him in the care of Kate. With this thread, I do hope she's not getting greedy and moving on to Paul because there are simply not enough Beatles to share!! 🌹🥺🌹

I think it was an exciting time because until then there hadn’t been such a thing as teenagers until probably the late 50s. Life was very different then, children grew up to dress like their parents. There were no trendy clothes shops, no need. We all liked the same singers, David Whitfield anyone? I liked him because my mum did, Alma Cogan? Her too.
When rock and roll hit it changed everything. We didn’t dress like our parents any more, our music was different and quite shocking to many. Elvis and his hips… ? He was a bad influence for sure.

Ringo will be 85 next month.

It only seems a short while ago that we were dancing to "Please Please Me" in the school hall during a wet break.

I still love their music.

It is sad that John died so young and George died before he reached 60.

Yes John was only forty when he was sadly murdered 😩

And yet the Rolling Stones, although not looking great looks wise just keep on rolling

In a minute I shall watch the clip from Glastonbuy 2022 where Paul performed Ive Got a Feeling with the video of John singing it as well. And I know I shall have a small tear for times past, my teenage years past, friends gone. And then I will cheer up and think how lucky I was to have lived that time and had those friends.
