I’m like grandMattie, I wouldn’t drink during the day (and I rarely have a drink any other time)
I much prefer a long, cold, non-alcoholic drink.
Alphalock - like wordle but harder!
I went to lunch with some friends the other day , I was driving so I had a Zero alcohol drink, don't know why I bothered I would have enjoyed my usual sort drink just as much. 3 of the others were having alcohol , two shared a bottle of wine and then had large G&T's the other had 2 bottles of beer.
I have never been able to drink alcohol on a lunch time, more than a glass sends me sleep for the afternoon especially if it is warm weather.
I will have a glass of wine at home on a Saturday but always with food.

Ok to drink after 1 glass of wine!!!??
The large glasses used nowadays??
I think not.
Dont drink at lunchtime unless a wedding or something big. I have a glass of red wine every evening and miss it if i don't ..i know its (just) within safe unit levels. But sometimes I wonder if I'm addicted and if it matters ?? Can you be a low grade alcoholic..?
I'll have a glass of wine with lunch if we are eating out and being driven but I don't drink during the day generally. However I make kombucha flavoured with blackcurrants or raspberries, it's lovely neat straight out the fridge or made into a spritzer with fizzy water, refreshing and healthy. I don't need any help to have a nap on a hot day, it's all too easy these days.
I confess that in the current weather, a pint of shandy goes down very well with a lunch out.
I have never been much of a drinker, just do not much enjoy the taste or how you feel after even 2 drinks, so I have frequently ordered a non-alcoholic drink when others are drinking alcoholic drinks. usually no-one takes any notice, occasionally someone says 'Are you sure?', but that is all.
I like a bottle or two of Blossom Hill with my cheese toastie.
Then I put my feet up and have a nap. Works for me.
I don’t drink before 6pm earliest, I was brought up with the don’t drink till the sun is over the yard arm approach. I’ll have a glass of fizz during the day at my daughter’s wedding though.
I might have a small glass of wine at 7 before theatre or with a meal and drive home at 11 pm
I don't drink at all unless we're out at a celebration of some sort.
I stopped drinking alcohol when I was about 25 after waking up with a bad hangover and wondering why I did that to myself when I didn't even like the taste that much. I was quite happy to go out with friends and drink lime and lemonade or orange and pineapple juice. No lovely presses in those days. I became the permanent allocated driver so everyone was happy
Well I rarely drink in the day unless we're out for lunch when I have one glass of wine. However I drink wine every night, more than I should. Send for the drink police someone.
I could have a couple of (moderate) glasses of wine and not feel the need to nod off. Or bitter shandy with ginger beer - I often opt for that when it’s hot.
That’s when having lunch out - I’d rarely bother at home.
I wouldn’t risk more than one single glass of wine because you lose your driver’s license here . I couldn’t face that and having to pass the test again. Our level is lower than yours I think - .05 which is only one drink.

Just to add that a glass of wine with lunch when out with friends is not the same as *drinking in the afternoon*
My sentiments too.
OP makes it sound like swigging Wincarnis Tonic Wine or Diamond White cider in front of Homes Under The Hammer!
It’s hardly “irresponsible “ @GrandMattie to enjoy a glass of wine if you are out to lunch!
Driving etc is of course another matter but there seem to be an awful lot of super-virtuous 😇😇😇 grans here!

I think I should find out where the nearest AA branch is.
I am going out to lunch with three girlfriends tomorrow I am not driving, it’s an ‘0’ birthday. Lots of bubbles will be consumed along with copious quantities of water due to the heat.
I do think drinking at lunch is different from drinking in the afternoon
🤪🤪🤪🤪
I’ll be enjoying a tipple in our Secret Garden behind the wine shop in Conwy later but we hop on the bus as Ive never had any alcohol and then driven in over 50 years. I still love driving and would hate to lose my independence.
Mr PG laughed at me on Wednesday afternoon after I parked outside a friend’s 200 yards away and enjoyed a glass of wine whilst catching up on her holiday news. I then strolled home and handed him the car keys! He reckoned I’d have been okay to drive but old habits die hard!
Witzend

I'll be drinking in the afternoon tomorrow. Special occasion 😀
DH will be driving, though. Unless I volunteer to drive and he has a drink instead.

Small glass = 125ml
Medium = 175ml
Large = 250ml
Most places would ask.
It'sa complicated equation to work out exactly how much alcohol would put someone over the limit as it depends on body weight and other factors, how long since you drank/ate and metabolism etc.
The limits in Scotland are lower than RUK.
I wouldn't normally have an alcoholic drink unless the sun's over the yard arm. Nor drive.
If I fancy a drink ‘ It’s five o’clock somewhere’.
My dad, who would be almost 90 now, liked a drink with Sunday lunch and would always say "the sun is over the yardarm "
I knew this was a nautical term but just googled it and it "happens" at 11am lol
Bit early for me .
Might have a cold Peroni about 3ish
Oh personally I would never drink and drive, not even one, not worth it IMO
Only when I'm not at work, lol

I have zero alcohol when driving. But drinking in the afternoon I really enjoy and often do with friends. Not sure why so many are judging negatively about this
Absolutely no alcohol for me if I'm driving.
If I feel like a wine I will have one if I dont I wont, not bothered either way. Never if Im driving and if out in the evening when the wine is flowing then no driving the next day at all
Makes you wonder how capable lots of people are while they are driving... How do you feel when you know your selfishness has caused an accident? Maybe people just are not aware how alcohol affects judgement and reactions.
