Drinking in the afternoon.

I get that people should not drink and drive and I never do or associate with people who do. I also don't like to be around people who drink to get drunk. Apart from that I have what I want when I want it and I don't have opinions on what others should do.

Makes you wonder how capable lots of people are while they are driving... How do you feel when you know your selfishness has caused an accident? Maybe people just are not aware how alcohol affects judgement and reactions.

If you had read this thread you would know that every contributor has said they have zero alcohol when driving…

Drugs are the cause of many accidents and not just in the afternoon or evening, perhaps a spliff or joint at breakfast time too.

I don't drink much these days as I find alcohol knocks me out with fairly low amounts. I drink alcohol free lager if I fancy a beer and I'm not enough of a connoisseur to notice the difference in taste from the alcoholic version. I certainly wouldn't drink wine at lunchtime, especially if driving. I might have a glass if out in the evening for a meal and have one if offered when staying with my son and his family. As I get older I find it all too easy to fall asleep in the afternoon, so drinking would certainly finish me off.

DD stopped drinking a few years ago as she realised it often gave her headaches. This year one of my nephews is getting married in Italy and I'm attending with my DD, my DS and my DiL. We've already agreed that DD will hire the car and do the driving so we can drink whatever we like. She has lived abroad too and has more experience of driving on the right so we all agreed the rest of us should leave it to her. I probably will still go easy on the alcohol as falling asleep at the wedding reception would mean missing all the fun and I don't want to embarass myself in front of the Italian family that I've yet to meet.

I have just commented on another thread that I will have a lovely chilled rosé with my dinner. If I fancy another one after that, I'll have one. It's Friday and beautiful weather so why not?

I never drink in the daytime or when driving, it ruins the rest of the day for me. I do like a glass of wine in the evening but am careful with my units now. I found as I got older that I enjoy the next day more if I'm not tired from overdoing it. I'm often surprised how much my friends and neighbours drink, and how little they know/are bothered about unit guidelines. That's their choice, but my misspent youth is behind me!

Love a glass or two of wine in the evening with a meal. Would love a glass of wine at lunchtime when on holiday but yes it does make me drowsy so I don’t bother. Having said that we are off to Italy soon to celebrate our son’s wedding so pretty sure wine will be on tap all day, especially with all the youngsters around! No driving involved as we have a villa thank heavens.

DH and I are off to one of the local Indian Restaurants for dinner this evening.

No driving, I shall start with a vodka & tonic as an aperitif, then it will be a nice bottle of very cold white wine (shared with DH), I am mid sixties, if I cannot have a bit of what I fancy what is the flipping point?

Yes I have a glass of wine every evening with dinner, never bothered about more than one though unless we have guests.

When we eat out I usually have a gin and then wine. But neither is compulsory and I might stick to mineral water if I feel like it.

I agree with you, RillaoI. I enjoy a G&T or a glass or two of wine as much as the next person but I can't recover as quickly as I used to, so I limit my intake now!

My DH hasn’t touch alcohol for 20+ years after being diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver disease. So i do enjoy the odd cocktail if we’re out for lunch or visiting family and friends as DH drives . I can only tolerate small amounts of alcohol before I feel ill, my cousins tease me a lot and say they got my share of the alcohol gene

While visiting my new born DGS new rule, I am not allow to drink. I am not an alcoholic, just one glass in company, so I tried the non alcoholic T&G in a can but poured into a glass. It wasn’t too bad, I would have preferred more non alcoholic G in it though. My DSiL’s bought a lot of different brightly coloured, very sweet, cocktails they were horrible. Maybe you could try the non alcoholic drinks, there are also wines while your friends are throwing their drinks back?

I can't stand it when people self righteously do that- most bottled soft drinks in pubs and restaurants cost the same as sharing a bottle of wine.

Well I’m glad I came back to this thread later today - I’d started to think I was the GN black sheep for enjoying a drink or two. Life’s short, and a bit of what you fancy does you good.

I’d never drink and drive though - after all, I’d have to get a licence first.
