Good morning from a sunny Vilnius.
Yesterday was gorgeous, spoiled only by a vicious 40mph wind in the middle of the day.
DS and I spent most of the day in the Grand Ducal palace, reconstructed at the end of 1900s. It contained a fascinating and irresistible history of the Grand Dukes (only ever had one king) from 1300s onwards. I hadn’t realised how close they had been to the Poles, sharing rulers for several centuries.
After a Lithuanian lunch, we then proceeded to wander around the old town, including the sad, sad ghetto, various churches, both catholic and Orthodox.
We also went to the self-proclaimed (pretentious) artists’ republic, with at least 24 published rules, on3 of which made me laugh. “3. You are allowed to die, but it is optional!”lost in translation, methinks.
Today, we’re off to Kaunas for another couple of days.
Keep safe in today’s heat🥵. Carpe diem🦩🦩🦩🦩
